I knew he was done in the last playoff game when the Bucs recovered the onside kick.  You could tell that he didn't want to back out there when a younger Brady would have eagerly gone out there in search of a miracle.

Looking forward to seeing him on Fox next year.

I'm a bit incredulous about drawing conclusions about an athlete's broader career aspirations from their in-game demeanor during a relatively small strech of game time, but regardless...

... in this case Brady was down three scores with 2:00 of game time remaining.  Maybe a younger Brady would have approached the situation with more enthusiasm, but at some point realism has to prevail.

Marriages don’t fall apart because of one decision like that, even if it’s an impactful one. You don’t throw away a lifetime because of one decision. It could have been a “last straw” situation, but coming back last year vs keeping Gisele is certainly a false choice.

Unfortunately, the courts are full of divorces because one party felt the other made the wrong choice and chose their career, or their friends, or their home, or you-name-it, over their spouse.

I could definitely see a situation where Gisele felt like she was just waiting out the football career to where they could start living the life she hoped for, but Tom kept choosing the football life, and I think he did so at least one too many times.

Right. It’s like you said, though…one too many times. That would be the last straw, but it wasn’t the one decision that ended it. It was a history of similar decisions.  And if it wasn’t football last year, it could be something else next year or 5 years from now. He’s an ultra competitor, and people like him make certain choices that cause these events over time.

FFS.

It was widely reported that Giselle over the past few years felt like Tom was absent.

That Giselle felt like she put her career on hold to run the house while Tom was off consumed by football.

After TB won the SB she was hoping to have him around.

^ All that was in everything from CNN to People to Sports Illustrated.

... and then Tom unretired after 40 days.  Yeah, last straw for Giselle.

These are not unreasonable comments.  Don't be so obtuse.

“It has been reported…” And? That means it’s the gospel truth?

No one knows for sure what is really going on except the two parties and those who are close to them. Lots of things are possible, so speculating about the private lives of other people is pointless.

Hopefully TB12 will run into you in an airport someday. Then you can help him with your profound knowledge regarding his personal life.

I would say it was worth it.  She chose to leave, if a woman can't handle a man's career, time to move on.

I've known to many guys that were in the Marine Corps with me and their wives said "me or the Corps" and they chose her only to end up divorced anyway.

I have a strong wife that said "me and the Corps" and we've been married 35 years and still going strong.

I see both sides.

Just my opinion, but if your career is getting in the way of you being there for your family or even taking a role in supporting your family on a long-term basis (beyond just ensuring that the paychecks keep coming in), then I can see how that would wear down on a spouse. Especially when you factor in the health aspect of this in knowing that in the NFL, one bad hit can alter your life forever.

Not saying you’re wrong. The fact that your wife was able to support you doing both? You got yourself a keeper! But if this was a matter of it just being “Tom, you’re never there, and I need a partner in all of this,” then I could understand her frustration and wanting out.

It sort of felt like he was done throughout the year. Whether it's turmoil from his personal or just being done with all the football BS and taking a beat (probably both) you could just tell. Good for him...amazing career...quite frankly beyond belief career.

He traded a supermodel for one more season already. I'm going to wait to congratulate him on a great career until I know it's officially official. /s <<<< THAT MEANS THIS POST CONTAINS SARCASM

Better QB focus and analysis has made watching Tom and Peyton and Drew dissecting defenses a joy. Being a UM fan and Lions fan there wasn't much else to root for late in the year too often. I think these guys forced the Stafford/Goff/Romo's to dial in their game more (I think of the turnaround for Stafford when he improved his accuracy and called his own protections).

Mahohes (did I do that right) and this newer generation QB have had all that greatness to view and study and all NFL fans have benefitted from what I think is higher level QB play across the board. San Fran also demonstrated that not protecting this asset brings QB play down to earth pretty quickly. (as the Giants did to Tom twice)

Accuracy, some arm talent and reading a defense quickly are quite a fun watch and the league has many more heading down a better path because of guys like Tom.

Is he supposed to take over as FOX's lead color commentator? I became a fan of Greg Olsen this year, especially after he went all Jerry "The King" Lawler during one of those 49ers/Eagles tussles. I'd love to see him with the Mannings. That would get more coverage than Buck/Aikman.

He was a great player who was fun and inspiring to watch over the decades.  Most importantly he was a great leader and a true representation of Michigan.

Bittersweet.  Glad to see he's heading out with his health intact and he definitely has nothing else to prove on the field but damn I'll miss watching him play.

Too many great memories being a long time Pats season ticket holder. Even a couple bad ones (Glendale and Indy SB's)!  However I always say to my many Pats/TB12 fans, I was in the stands for his most important game and biggest win on a picture perfect day Big House Saturday in Sept 1998 when he beat Sparty.  Lose that one, 1 - 3 and LLLLloyd caves and makes the move to Henson and we never hear of TB again.  Thanks for the memories at both Michigan and the Pats.
