I will always be a Hoke fan! No offense to the Arizona guys, but there was never a moment where I didn’t respect the man!

Will always wish him the best. Unless he faces Michigan.

That was more of an organizational thing (on Dave Brandon).  John U. Bacon wrote about this.  Hoke didn't see the initial injury and the guys who were supposed to keep him informed of any injury issues weren't in place that day for some reason.  Then, when he did notice the injury, Bellomy couldn't come in because the equipment guy didn't have his helmet ready.

No coach sees everything that happens, headset or not.  I forget which book it was, but Bacon broke down all the problems that happened there and made a convincing case that Brandon's meddling set us up for a disaster like that to happen.

Hoke wasn't the guy to coach Michigan (his record says it all), but I don't hold that incident against him.

People also forget, or simply ignore, that Morris came off the field limping and went straight to the trainer.  It was the trainer who cleared Morris to continue playing on his bad ankle.  It was the trainer who didn't notice the possible concussion, and it was the trainer that failed to report to team officials that Morris may have been concussed.  But yeah, people blame Hoke because A.) He wasn't the right guy for Michigan and B.) He didn't wear a headset, and C.) He wasn't the right guy for Michigan.

Arizona of course previously had Rich Rod as coach and currently has Don Brown as DC. SDSU has had Fab Five coaches Steve Fisher and Brian Dutcher in basketball. Two programs that love Michigan coaches.

I didn't watch the game, but in scanning the box score my guess is Arizona's offensive line was overmatched by SDSU's defense.  I say that for two reasons:

(1) SDSU's defense had 11 tackles for loss against Arizona, and

(2) Arizona was 1 - 13 on third down conversions

There wasn't a lot of lost fumbles or interceptions, and Arizona didn't hurt itself with penalties as they only had 7 for 58 yards.  Again, from a box score perspective Arizona couldn't get a run game going (only 49 yards, 2.6 average), and only managed a little passing (36 attempts for 179 yards).

SDSU ran the ball a lot (56 attempts, 271 yards, 4.8 average), and complemented that with 10 for 15 passing for 183 yards.

Don Brown is not the coordinator you want when you have a talent deficiency compared to the other team. Dr. opposite of bend but don’t break saw his defense give up a lot of big plays.

It is a great question.  The pattern with each Don Brown team is that they kicked it up in year two.  Theoretically, it takes a year to learn the system.  I was also under the impression that once upon a time he ran more zone and more traps but this is beyond my knowledge. The last two years were so frustrating.  Never rotate or engage the youngsters.  Never run some type of hybrid zone.

Am happy for Brady. He runs a very good and clean program. As much as liked Don Brown, am not surprised his defense is not good. It was very wise to let him go but I wish DB well. He would be best suited for U-Mass or somewhere back in New England.

Happy for Hoke, but I hope I never see him as a coach in Michigan ever again.

His wins went down every year here, and too many people made too many excuses for his 3rd year when he SHOULD have been shown the door.
