A big thank you to (and from) Coach Martelli

The team was put in a tough spot, obviously, but he helped us get the wins we needed, including a HUGE one on Sunday!

Here's a heart-warming moment in the locker room after Sunday's win.  We're beyond lucky to have a dude like him on the bench.

(For the life of me, I'll never figure out how to embed tweets correctly.  Sorry, you'll have to click through.)

Thank you @PhilMartelli 💙💛

I really appreciate the way coach Phil went out of his way, and at every opportunity, to make it clear that he was not the coach.  That this is Juwan’s team and the other assistants were the one’s that really were the guys coaching and calling the plays in Juwan’s absence.  Takes a humble confident guy to do that - and was very smart as it nips in the bud any potential claims that Phil and not Juwan are the brains/true coach of the team.

A true class act - thanks coach Phil!

Happy to have Juwan back but did notice that Phil calls better timeouts. And there should be continued praise for the adjustments and play calls off of the timeouts ( and halftime) from Howard Eisley and Saddi Washington.

A great support staff who are good people off the court. Like with Beilein, not a single opposing coach has a bad word to say about him.

We don't get too many occasions to encounter true class and humility, especially in public figures.

Coach Martelli, you sir, are a good man.

It would be lame to click on this post and not up vote it, great call out @Cousin Larry! Can't thank Da Godfather enough.  Tremendous job, lucky to have him.  Go Blue!

Every time I hear Coach Phil being interviewed, I marvel at his grace and generosity to Howard Eisley, Saddi Washington, and the team.  What a class act, which speaks to Juwan's hiring him in the first place.  People outside the program see Juwan Howard in the 2-D terms that the media shovels there, but everyone is complex and while having a temper is one of Juwan's qualities, so is have strong values and character.  Exihibit 1) - His coaching staff, Exhibit 2) - his team, and Exhibit 3) - Juwan has set the example by keeping a low profile, not talking to media, and doing nothing that detracts from Phil, Howard, Saddi, and the team.  He's a good man.

What an absolute angel of a human being. Between him and Beilein I can’t imagine a better role model or grandpa.
Ain’t nobody got it better than us!
