Big Ten Championship Game Thread

Getting interesting enough to merit its own thread. Northwestern fans, prepare for some awful second half officiating.

Ohio State is a fraud. Big Ten has done absolutely everything in their power to get this team into the CFP. From an insanely weak schedule to altering their own rules. What a joke of a conference.

Ohio State is again playing without 20 players and tons of guys out of position.  That's what good team's do, they adapt and challenge themselves.  They don't hide because they don't like the odds...

"...the committee will not be impressed."

Who cares?  The undefeated B1G Champion will be in the CFP.  If the rules weren't change mid-season to help out OSU, a win today against some B1G West also-ran would put undefeated OSU into the CFP.

Now, it would be fucking AWESOME if NW were to somehow hold on and win this game!  Forget the CFP payout, I'll take the OSU loss...

First off, OSU doesn’t make the schedule. Second, do you really think there’s anyone in the B1G OSU is afraid of? And 3rd, it was only easy because the B1G stinks. Not their fault PSU stunk and you guys ducked us. They played the top team before their QB went down, and they just beat probably the other top team. Who exactly were they lucky to avoid, Wisconsin?

The “defense is dead” crowd has some explaining to do.
While it’s clear we need to innovate on offense, we also need to find a way to slow down OSU. It can be done.

The majority of losing teams are scoring under 30. I agree that we need a much better offense and said as much. But pretending defense doesn’t matter is ridiculous.
Losing teams in the final have scored 20, 40, 31, 23, 16, 25. Losing teams in the semifinals have averaged 18 PPG. Defense matters. Dominant offense is essential, but defense matters and you need a defense that can slow today’s offensive superpowers if you want to win.

You are exactly right - but it's not NW slowing down osu, it's the play calling. Pretty obvious NW is doubling the only starting receiver osu has and the other ones are not on the same page with fields. Yet they continued to try and throw the ball while every time they ran it, they were getting 10+ yards. NW is selling out to stop the passing game.

Day is calling a horrible game. If he had started running when it was obvious to everyone what NW was doing - mid way through the 2nd quarter, OSU would have rushed for 600 yards and won by 30+.

Day, or whoever was calling plays, $hit the bed.

I've watched none of this game, but experience has taught me that it will probably end in a lopsided OSU win.

But, as NW is winning without me watching, I won't turn it on to jinx it.

Really impressed with the Northwestern defense. They are flying around the field, dealing out big hits and collapsing the pocket with some consistency.

That interception at the end of the half in the end zone was an incredible individual effort by their freshman safety.

I'm not saying it is going to happen, but this is the type of performance that is required to beat Ohio State. Hopefully our players and remaining coaches are watching.

I turned on the game just as Fields ran for 20+ yards, and then came the pass interference call. Obviously I’m a jinx.

So I turned it off, and I find out NU’s interception came next.

OBVIOUSLY I should NOT be watching.

Northwestern is playing inspired football, look confident, hitting hard, QB has touch, freshman safety is playing better than our junior corners. I forgot to mention they are playing OSU and not Rutgers. Hope Warde Manuel is watching this game.
