Big Ten Championship Game Thread

Getting interesting enough to merit its own thread. Northwestern fans, prepare for some awful second half officiating.

2020 in a nutshell: Michigan has ZERO players on offense on any All Conference team. Meanwhile, all 5 OSU O-linemen are on an All Conference team.

A few things:

- osu is not the death star some people want to make them out to be.

- with a coherent gameplan and execution,  they can be had, even with lesser talent. Remember how we beat them in the mid 90s and they were really good.

- Fields, I'm not so sure about him being a sure thing in the nfl, I still haven't seen an osu QB do anything special in the nfl.

- when osu faces a team with close to or better talent. They usually lose, Bama would destroy them. They will probably win today but I'm not impressed.

- the idiot who started the "what if ISU loses by 20" thread...look at the score now.

Remember how we beat them in the mid 90s and they were really good.

You do realize that they are no longer coached by John Cooper?

The fact that we have to go back to the Cooper era to find a glimmer of hope says it all.  They're better, and they come out guns blazing against us every year.

I'm tired of playing them the last game of the season.  I'm over "the Game."  Play them in October.

I contend that when Michigan was beating Ohio State pretty regularly their program was not recruiting like they have been since Urban Meyer arrived.

Look at where their players are coming from nowadays.

They get the most elite talent from every corner of the country.

They NEVER recruited like that under Bruce or Cooper or even Tressel.

They've taken it to a whole other level.

We need JJ McCarthy to be a special, generational star.  Like, Joe Burrow special.

All the fuckers here shitting on our team getting hard for NW when they would have called for him to be fired last year can suck it. Even down 22 players osu is still a hard damn team to play.

And if NW loses, then what.  Fair weather fans.

Not true at all.  jim Schwartz said it best that there are only a handful of DTs on the planet each year, then everyone else, meaning how important it is to have them.  And if you look at Alabama they signed THREE last week.  Clemson takes two every other year and gets at least one each year and same with OSU and LSU. we have been shit out of these few DT every year save Hinton, and try to replace them with small framed guys like Kemp who add weight and get blown off ball. Kemp should be a LB at his normal weight.

Well, I never did tune in, but looking at the score, it unfolded about as I expected.  OSU always seems to look crappy in the first half of their BTCG as they are normally in a post-Michigan hangover.  Then they wake up in the second half and win.

They've lost four conference games in the last nine years.  Being a Big Ten football fan just sucks right now.  I'm ready for college football to expand the playoff so we can not have this permanent roadblock in our way.

For all those who think Coach Campbell will be immune from the evil curse laid on Michigan, I refer you to ISU's last 2 offensive plays. Behind by 6 points a with under 1:20 left in the game, the play call was gloriously late, twice in a row! The last one caused the game sealing interception. Wanna bet how often we'd see that if he comes to Michigan? I'm taking the over.

I'm not saying Harbaugh is better than Campbell, or that we shouldn't make a coaching move. I am saying Michigan has been screwed again and again by the most unlikely things you've ever seen. No one and nothing will be as close to a sure thing has Harbaugh was in 2014. We're kidding ourselves if we think we are one head coach away.  The old days are gone, just like a healthy economy centered on the big 3 car companies.

I'm beginning to think Jim will play out his final contract year, and I hope he wings it, and doesn't care what the higher ups said to tone it down.  He is going ballistic next season and will be back to being the maniac we love.  Then he will bolt for the NFL.  Bank on it.

The B1G basically asked OSU if they could make a layup this year and they responded by having the ball roll around the rim a few times. They’ll need to make some adjustments or alabama will curb stomp them in the CFP.

So often, we watch these games and rage over these other teams who play OSU tough for a half....maybe even three quarters.  We wish we had their energy, their coaches, their game plan, but the ending is still the same.

This just shows you how truly miserable we are and how desperately things need to be turned around.  We’re constantly jealous of teams who still end up losing to OSU by double digits.

The only coach I’d really want instead of Harbaugh is Tony Elliot. Other than him? I’d keep jim

OSU is not a CFP team imo. Justin Fields has consistently shown to be straight up bad against competent defenses. If that's how they played against Northwestern, then they will get pummeled against any of the other 3 teams. Give me UF, TAMU or even Cincinnati over OSU

With merely a Northwestern-level defense (a sound scheme built on the backs of 3-stars), and the kind of offense we should be able to put together, we could actually win some championships.

Northwestern did the exact same thing to Ohio State the last time they played them in the Big Ten Championship game.  They have a sound, smart defensive scheme that keep the game close.  They just don't have the horses on offense to pull it off at the end.  But we do, if we could ever figure how to get out of our own way.

They sold out to defend the pass and got run over on the ground.  If OSU goes to the run early the game is out of hand.  OSU was a mess in the first half and everything went NU's way and is was basically a tie..

Northwestern is smart and disciplined but their scheme is a total sell out to stop the pass.  Ohio State just exposed the flaw.
