Talk about a recruiting tool.

Next up: the rumored Michael Jordan apperance at the next home game.

I think rap is a terrible form of entertainment and have little to no respect for rappers or their talent, but I know that is not the case with most recruits, who are typically young black men who love this kind of celebrity. If this helps recruiting I am all for it.

Rap is hugely popular among wide swaths of the worlds population, not just young black people. Hip hop culture is pervasive in our clothes, our entertainment, and society at large. You may not like it, heck, I only like a couple sub genres, but its appeal is broad and that takes talent beyond many other forms of music that are out there.

You may not understand it.

But respect is another matter. Rap is a form of street poetry and dialogue. In its rawest form, it's fresh, creative and on-the-spot, in-real-time commentary & word play -- I've guys actually heard guys rapping in conversation w/ each other on the bus. Simply amazing.

*That* requires a level of talent often simply out of reach for more conventional writers and poets.

Because it's so cool to show that you don't know who a big rap star is when you could google him if you actually gave a shit and wanted to know, but you'd rather post "who?" because your preference of music is superior to anything Big Sean does....I get it.

I'm not suggesting you should know who he is...I'm saying people are looking for attention when they go "who?" in these types of threads.

If you don't know...that's fine, but if you wanted to know, clearly you know how to use the internet and you could find out.
