Best thing you saw: Week 4

Submitted by mi93 on

If you just saw the score of the Michigan game, you'd think, 'hmm, about what I expected' but it was anything but in many respects.  Elsewhere, Ferentz out-Franklin'd Franklin, and Bert out-Sumlin'd Sumlin.  How Kirk and Bert biffed their games with late leads was stunning.  Florida keeps making the win look better, but Georgia is rounding into the class of the SEC East. Big 12 gonna Big 12 - so much for the fighting Pickens.

With that the best of what I saw...

Non-Michigan: Sparty got throttled - though they really Plax'd themselves in the 2nd in what became 14pt swing when it was still a game.  But...the end of the PSU-Iowa game was max entertainment and the best thing I saw.

Michigan: John.  Emer.  Effing.  O'Korn.

I'm still disgusted by the hit that knocked out Speight - it seemed dirty, and the fact it didn't get a flag also chaps my arse.  Coupled with 2 targeting calls, it seemed to be a theme for them on the day.  Regardless, it sure seemed like after the OL got their starting QB maimed, they played a bit more inspired the rest of the game - certainly the blitz pick-ups improved.  I pray Speight will be fine and thank my lucky Harbaughs the back-up was ready to go and performed at that level.

What you got?

I found myself screaming at the tv every time the announcer stated "Nordin set to punt." Where the fuck are the spotters? Upside: my wife left the room. I was able to watch the rest of the game without having to answer stupid questions.

All those JUCO transfers really changed that Purdue culture alright ... into a bunch of head hunting dirtballs. Brohm and crew are scum.

It may have been lost in the time of night last night, but I enjoyed seeing Stanford win big. Trying not be negative and say ucla getting smashed, rather enjoying the positive aspect. Stanford dominated. Glad to see Notre dame have the success they did, and especially happy for my new neighbors tcu to win the way they did.

Worst thing I saw: PSU completing that 4th down TD. We needed PSU to lose that game to improve our chances to win the conference. If we lose at PSU, we need them to lose 2 other games. But besides OSU, no one else on their schedule seems up to it. That game is now a must win.

I missed some of the game while I was grilling so I might have missed some plays, but from what I saw, the secondary looked good and were actually tested. Long was in the Purdue WRs faces and even on the 1 completion on Hurst's offsides, he played it as well as you could ask. Hill might have had a PI that wasn't called, but otherwise he was right with his guys the entire game. That's really promising because of the youth.

Safeties are actually concerning me a little more than previously. Metellus was close, but not quite with his guy a time or two. Hudson didn't look blazing fast on some scrambles. Kinnel definitely doesn't have Thomas' speed from last year, although he isn't prone to busting nearly as often. Overall the secondary was surprisingly good though.

Will be tested against MSU if their OL can hold off Winovich and Co. long enough to get Lewerke the chance to get a pass off. Probably a lot of slants and hitches (from their TEs) based off of what I saw last night.

I'm glad he walked off at least.

Worst thing:  Watched first half in a Downriver bar, an old man about 80 with Purdue shirt and matching Chicago Bears "C" tattoo and logo watch sat next to me.  He was respectfully clapping mostly.

Then Speight went down, as he lay there he says, "Don't get up".  I was stunned, and said, "What, you're cheering injuries now?"  He said "No" with a shocked look on his face.  I almost said, "How will you feel when the backup QB beats you, he may be better", but I resisted, what's the point.  I left at halftime so I never got to rub it in.

was a breath of fresh air. Not sure how Iowa let Ped State off the hook. Sparty getting routed in prime time was great too.

A few things stood out to me.

1. Our TE group looks impressive and I think we can get a lot of production there with a young and enigmatic WR group. We need to use them more if the WR aren't ready. Gentry looks poised to be a star.

2. The re-emergence of Evans is a sigh of relief particularly since something is wrong with Isaac. The running game is a three headed monster and someone will breakout every week

3. Devin Bush Jr. is on FIRE!!!!. Once again he was everywhere giving Purdue fits. Seems like he took the Jabril Peppers spot and deserves defensive player of the week honors.

Michigan: JOHN MFING O'KORN, Devin Bush (still EVERYWHERE), Chase Winovich, Don Brown

Non-Michigan: Sparty gets their first loss and Penn State suffers some exposure at Kinnick.

Pulling out of my neighborhood yesterday morning in suburban Pittsburgh, I saw a man jogging with his blonde hair flapping with each step, sweaty white t-shirt skin tight against his seemingly negative body-fat chest and I thought to myself, "don't let my wife see THAT guy!"

Started to turn, made eye contact with the mysterious stranger and recognized him....
