Baskeball NIT picking...
New selection format for postseason NIT this coming season...
Smaller conference champs who don't make the big dance will no longer auto qualify; instead, the top two NET ranked teams from the Power 5, plus Big East conference, will be guaranteed an NIT spot - regardless of record - and at least one home game (if available).

Relax. We beat Marquette in a scrimmage. My only concern is whether we will be the overall #1 seed in the NCAA tourney.

I like your confidence.

Ah yes. MGOblog, connoisseurs of spelling a grammar in an informal forum. The arrogance is real.

Are we already giving up on making the Big Dance? I think this group can Shock the World!

If this was in place last year, the 16-19 Ohio State Buckeyes (finished 13th in conference play) would have received an automatic bid to (and a guaranteed home game in) the NIT.
Ugh. Under .500 teams (and at the expense of someone who actually did win their conference)? Who is going to be excited to show up for that home game anyway?

This is informational only - not a suggestion of how Michigan will do this season..

This really hurts mid majors. It’s complete bull shit imo

To some people, an NIT Final Four with 2 C-USA teams and 1 WAC team (as happened in March) is a "problem." Thus, this "solution."
October 30th, 2023 at 7:05 PM ^
Yep. Thinking they are going to make more money with bigger schools.
October 30th, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
I don't like this at all.
Let's make smaller conference teams SMALLER. Give me a break. NIT is/has been irrelevant. Give these programs chance to compete in postseason- at least NIT is much more meaningful for smaller programs than some Power 5 losers that couldn't make the big dance and don't want to be there in the first place. Fuck off NCAA.
October 30th, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
This is going to render mid-major regular seasons essentially entirely irrelevant all so we can see more of the 12th best team in the Big Ten or something. Two thumbs down.

Unfortunately we’ll probably end up in the NIT. But we shouldn’t be posting about it. Michigan has higher expectations than this. We’re not little brother.
October 30th, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
This is stupid, why should they not automatically qualify? A lot of shit Power 5 teams are still aren't much better, if they even are better, than those smaller schools.

Our basketball team is like seed corn....I expect a few 7 footers by New Years.
October 30th, 2023 at 8:27 PM ^
Whatever - if we're upset about getting screwed by the NIT, then i probably was just spared of a few hours of less than compelling basketball because I'd definitely watch if we get in.
