Your way of looking at it is filled with pathos, not logic. They aren’t putting their bodies on the line for nothing. They are not all struggling to do their work and be college students, but even if they are not getting the same college experience—neither was I when I had to work on campus and pay for my college that way. So they don’t get to party as much (highly debatable—ask Grant Perry, ask Baker Jumps Fences Mayfield).

I really don’t feel bad for a 18-23 year old guy who gets to lift weights and gets free health shakes and training advice. Poor them “hurting” their bodies—that’s called taking care of their bodies.

Yes, some of them get injuries, and some of them are serious—they still get better medical care, and they get med scholarships.

There are colleges that go out of business every month now because of lack of revenue. You’re whining that the NCAA is pocketing all this money because you want to rail against the whole CEO comparison BS.

Therr is an inherent risk in playing any sport—there is a bigger risk playing football. If a young adult doesn’t understand or doesn’t have parents who do, then that is on them.

I am still trying to figure out how getting free training for multiple jobs is exploitive—just because the people making money from helping you don’t get that money from you. I mean, should the best coaches be coaching you for fucking free?

How many players has Harbaugh helped get into NBA? How did Beilein exploit Duncan Robinson or Caris Levert?

Spoiler alert: they didn’t.

Feel the same way crg, but you and I are clearly in the minority here. I think college football fans are far more motivated to attend games and support the team based upon the "name on the front of the jersey, not the back of the jersey." If things changed tomorrow and all of the best players were in a professional minor league, and the remaining players supplemented by those college athletes not good enough to make current teams, represented the schools, I think the new college football would crush the pro minor league in both attendance and ratings. This hypothetical (which I'll grant you is not going to come to pass), pre-suppposes that all teams get relatively worse on an absolute scale but that the impact is relative, i.e. the games are just as competitive,

I am one of the people that don't like the status quo, but I am certainly not cheering this on. Whether or not I think it's a big deal depends on specific details I don't yet have.

The rules should be changed for everyone. Until then, no one should be accepting or turning a blind eye to impermissible benefits (or accept the punishment when they do).

I don't care how Michigan beats OSU. I don't care if it's against starters, all fourth-stringers (so, still 5-stars) or random dudes off the street.

You think OSU fans care that they beat Michigan teams that were inferior in terms of talent level? You think they're giving back their wins against Nick Sheridan, Tate Forcier, Broken Devin Gardner, Broken Wilton Speight, or Just Plain Bad John O'Korn? Hell no, they aren't! Just like I don't give a damn if Michigan beats OSU with or without Chase Young or any other player. Just win!

Bottom line, Michigan fans are not in a position to look down on any victory over OSU at this juncture.

I'll take a win however I can get it. If it means we play OSU's towel boys, I don't fucking care. Find a way to win against whomever you have to play.

Michigan fans really can't afford to be picky, so I don't care if OSU is at full strength or not. Beat them a few years in a row, or make it a back and forth affair every year for 5-10 years and then I'll about wanting to beat a full-strength OSU team.

No he will not, this is well orchestrated to be Bosa 2.0.

All week long we have been hearing from all draft gurus that he is the #1 pick, so what incentive does he have to play or practice another minute and risk injury - NONE!

THEEEEE ohio put out a carefully crafted press release.  There was NO NEED for him to go and tweet the loan issue.  He was basically begging the NCAA to declare him ineligible so that he can preserve himself for the NFL.

Masterfully done chase!

Glass half empty:  OSU will do an internal investigation and he will be back for the Penn State and Michigan games.

Glass half full:  OSU has been playing fast and loose and getting close to the Alabama/Clemson levels or 'pro ball' in college from the day Tressel arrived to the present.  So many risks and that set of practices means...sometimes you get caught.  This will be the first domino to fall that will bring OSU back to the level they were at in the 80s-90s, when Michigan dominated the series.

What will really happen:  CY will not play another down for OSU, but the NCAA will do nothing more, and OSU will just keep going with the culture and practices that they have embraced since the day Tressel took over.

Most certainly there will be an ncaa investigation .... that takes 2 years.  Then OSU will be forced to forfeit their games and take down their 2019 B1G Championship banner.

players get to keep the rings and fans get to keep the bragging rights.  Chase gets to keep the money

Dunno? https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/28034200/buckeyes-de-chase-young-vs-maryland-due-potential-ncaa-issue

Young, a junior from Hyattsville, Maryland, will not play for the No. 1 Buckeyes in Saturday's game against Maryland "due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into," the school said in a release.

That’s not how it works.   Wins are vacated when a program knowingly plays an ineligible player.    This is a self reported issue, the suspension is an OSU suspension not an NCAA suspension = they are not playing a player while they (OSU) investigate.

Is that true?

I have no idea.  But it does not seem obvious that proof that OSU coaches or AD people knew is the standard.

If this were the rule, it would seem that the incentives would strongly point to allowing players to take all kinds of money (including agent money) but 'not know' (wink, wink) about it.  Only penalty would be that you might lose the player for a few games (but would not forfeit any games) in the unlikely scenario that the player get caught.

Isn't auto-forfeit how it works when schools play guys that are academically ineligible?

Anyone up on NCAA rules know how this really works?

Tools Of Ignorance

November 8th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^

I guess I'm under the impression that this is already how it goes.  School turns the blind eye and only faces penalty when it can be proven that they knew...eg: Ole Miss & Hugh Freeze.

Also, it's difficult for an administration to not know that their student athlete is academically ineligible.

No, I'm not brushed up on the NCAA rule book.  I just thought that the institution claiming ignorance was the generally accepted method.

Its such a hollow penalty. People were at the games. They saw them happen. Even if last year's results are vacated, it doesn't erase the fact that Michigan got absolutely trounced by OSU.

Just like Louisville having to vacate their title. People still saw it happen. Those memories still exist, the players still have their rings, that game was still won. Vacating wins is a worthless penalty that doesn't really punish anyone....

They will investigate and "find nothing" and he will be back next week.  They will punish him by trimming his paycheck from 500k to 400k.

Probably PED's. Should check Dobbins too.

But seriously though, if he's looking at multiple games he might as well go the Bosa route and just start prepping for the NFL.
