Ponce has spent most of his coaching career in the Miami area:

Appalachian St finished 2021 ranked # 23 in points per game, #31 in yards per game, and that breaks down into #54 in passing yards per game and #35 in rushing yards per game.

Ponce is expected to be moved into the OC job soon, as Miami is expecting Josh Gattis to leave for a head coaching job in as soon as one year from now.

Miami fans and sports writers have very high hopes in what Josh Gattis is going to bring to the offense. They mention over and over on YouTube videos, blog posts, and Miami sports sites, that he was "The Broyles Award winner". That phrase has created a high level of expectation for what Gattis is going to do in his likely very short time there. In doing a casual search of Miami Hurricane football sites and the name Josh Gattis you'll come across the phase probably 50 times in a short time of searching.

Ehhh I doubt that. The ACC is the weakest its been in a long time. FSU has been flaming garbage for the better part of five years and that doesn't appear to be changing next year, Virginia Tech hasn't been relevant in a long time, and Clemson finally looks mortal. Now maybe that could be a one off year for them, but losing Venables is going to hurt, and I believe they lost their OC and a few recruits as well. They could take a step back to the pack. They'll still be good, but Alabama or Georgia good? Guess we'll find out.

Cristobal should have them moving in the right direction and possibly contending for the ACC within a few years, if his work at Oregon is any indication. The fact that Florida is down too helps their cause with instate recruiting.

I wasnt impressed with Cristobal at Oregon. Utah beat them bady twice this past season. There's just too mych excitement surrounding Miami .6-6 vould happen. And Miami fans will come back down to earth.

Right now, some Miami fans are saying Miami could win the ACC this season. That hope will probably be gone by the muddle of October.

Wasn't ever impressed with Gattis. Weiss was a big factor in the Michigan offense executing well in 2021. I am sure Harbaugh did as well. Good for Gattis, even better for Michigan that he is gone. Let's focus on Michigan and the players and coaches, not the ones who took their ball and went home so to speak

Well, it'll be interesting to see if this works out for Miami. They are certainly spending money like they haven't before and there's definitely a power vacuum in Florida with UF and FSU being down too right now. They have a shot...but then again they've always had a shot and have failed for like 20 years now

Miami is sitting in a recruiting epicenter, so if Cristobal can recruit....they will be a decent team. We already know hes a good coach.

They are a few years away from being relevant though.

That being said, people said the same thing about Diaz?

Good for Miami but this is making less sense for Gattis by the day. He left a situation where the head coach was offensive minded and multiple other guys were getting input to a situation that is now exactly the same. You would think he wants to prove himself essentially, but now people are going to question how much of the offense has to do with Mario and Ponca than it does with Gattis. Just like they questioned how much it had to do with Harbaugh, Weiss, and Moore here. This is probably one of the worst career moves he could have made.

He should have waited for O’Brien to take his NFL job and then begged Saban to come back as sole coordinator. This Miami gig is going to do nothing for him. Not saying he won’t become a head coach, but this was clearly the wrong decision.

Miami certainly is collecting offensive coaches but this feels like a weird mishmash of interests.  Gattis is going to be there for a year, with a new staff and a number of new pieces, and a lot of different voices in the room.  Feels like he made a rash decision because he was mad he didn't get the HC gig from Harbaugh and jumped into a situation that isn't going to help his case much.  I doubt this will limit his ceiling for an HC gig but I also don't see him elevating Miami above "pretty good" offensively, which doesn't move the needle for me.
