From OSU sites, it appears that OSU liked Simmons better than UM did. OSU chased him hard; UM did not. He went to where he felt loved. Time will tell as to which program did a better job of scouting him.
I am pretty sure that him being from Ann Arbor had little or nothing to do with OSU's decision to take him. Number are too tight in general, and as discussed above, are particularly tight for OSU this class.
These threads bring out the absolute worst of the concern trolls.
As always, MGoBlog can be as insufferable as any other place on the internet.
This feels more like a kid committing not to Michigan than to Ohio State, but whatever. If the 2016 cycle proved anything, it's that anything can and will happen.
We haven't won the Big Ten since 2004 and can still pull 3 All-Americans from California and the #1 overall player from New Jersey. We don't need to settle. Simmons must either get bigger to be a linebacker or more athletic to be a Peppers/Hudson type of player. Why not just take the guys who are already big to play linebacker and the guys who are already athletic?
I hope the best for the kid but i dont beleive for a minute his verbal c. happened by chance while JH and the team are down in Florida. Slurrby Meyer probably put him up to it.
And Simmons is right across the street from Harbaugh and staff. So, I doubt this recruitment is over by a long shot.
If OSU holds onto him until NSD, kudos to them, but this seems impulsive. Good luck wherever he goes.
Who knows what the true motivations are behind Antjuans or OSUs decisions. Antjuan may truly feel he fits better at OSU but this far out from NSD 2017 it looks more likely that this is a reaction to Michigan not showing him the love he feels he deserves, similar to when he left Michigan out of his top 11 list.
On OSUs end, ESPN just spent 15 minutes on a spring practice that wasnt even in pads. And thier announcement of the guests to Urbans coaching clinic is less than spectacular. (I suspect Cris Carter will spend 15 minutes on finding a fall guy and Tressel will expound on how to lie repeatedly to your bosses face and still get invited back to a coaching clinic.) This may be a look at me moment for Urban.
We will see if this offer ends up being committable. OSU is in on much higher rated guys and its still a year fom NSD. And kids have been known to be fickle.
Either way, Michigan will be fine and in no way is this an embarrassment of the proportions that Albatross the troll suggests.

Let's hope this is a solid offer and not one of Urban's shaky offer.

I would bet money he is in the fold by then if Harbaugh wants him.

"I don't think it's a knock on Michigan, but they were kind of doing their own thing and recruiting whoever they wanted to recruit," Brown told cleveland.com during a phone interview shortly after Simmons' commitment. "It just seems to me that there isn't a lot of attention paid to the state of Michigan. You have a kid right across the street, but for whatever reason, they were in contact with him but didn't really recruit him and didn't build the relationship that he felt comfortable with going to the university.
"When you have a guy in your backyard, you may take it for granted sometimes," Brown said. "You think, 'Well, we offered this kid, he's in our backyard, we got him.' But Antjuan is different. He's a relationship kid, and Michigan just never built that. I can't speak for Coach Harbaugh's recruiting tactics or what he does, but this was about Antjuan and I think Ohio State was the best place for him.
"If Michigan would have came into the school, maybe gave him a little more time and made him feel comfortable, I they would have had a good shot. But it just wasn't done that way. So Ohio State is the place for him, and I think he made the right choice."
Meh. Considering that the M coaches are very familiar with his skill set, and they weren't pursuing him very hard, I'm not that concerned about this. This is probably more gamesmanship on Urban's part, since the kid is right across from Michigan stadium. OSU is tight on #'s this year, so I'd be surprised if he ends up in their class.
I don't think it's gamesmanship or lazy recruiting on anyone's part. OSU had him high on their boards, even if his commitment this early may be a little surprising. As for Harbaugh, I think it's clear he's expanding to a more national recrutiing style that doesn't permit taking every in-state kid this early in the process. As has been stated, he's right across the street if either he or UM change their minds.
