Anthony Campanile set to remain at Michigan according to The Michigan Insider sources

There had been major specualtion about him leaving for some time now.  One of our "insider" board members who shall remain nameless even claimed he knew Campanile was gone, along with Chuck Filiaga.  Doesn't look like either is happening now.

In the TomVH heyday, there wasn't anything available on the internet, pay sites included, that didn't show up here within 24-48 hours. That regarded recruiting details (obviously), staff hires, player progress, etc. And the information bore out at a clip equal to or greater than info shared anywhere, even behind paywalls.

Losing TVH hurt that. But so did other things. Even though the site seemed to replace TVH at first, no one proved his equal. Compounding matters, mgoblog has since stopped hiring an employee devoted to the mgoboard. Then there's a baseless speculation I have (based on pattern recognition [logic], not behind the scenes facts) that Brian was getting heat for this board's free leaks.

At this point, I don't expect the information trove to return to the mgoboard. "Resident mgoboard expert" isn't coming back and now Brian is perhaps too buddy-buddy with his competitors, like Sam, to willfully support paywall info appearing here, even if it appears indirectly (not because it was robbed from pay sites and shared but because it was independently reproduced).

I don’t know if I agree that Brian and Sam are competitors.  Sam gets subscription and sponsorship dollars and Brian gets ad, merchandise, direct contribution and sponsor dollars.  So they both sell sponsorships but I don’t know if that is really a big deal.  And I can’t conceive of a reason that Sam gaining a subscriber would have a tangible effect on mgoblog ad revenues.  People are still going to come here even if the have a 247 subscription.

And if they are competitors, why does Sam host a segment every week explicitly called the MGOBLOG round table and promote HTTV on his show?

I don’t follow umbig11 very closely so I’ll let others litigate how he’s been lately.  What I will say it he knew about the annual summer trip stuff before anyone knew there was something to know.  That’s what put him on my radar

To be fair, everyone thought Campy was leaving, so claiming it wasn't really "inside info", but the Filiaga story was a swing and a miss. Although it's weird how these guys are announcing. It's almost like they planned it out with the administration to announce 1 a week for staying or going.

Not sure about the Filiaga stuff as I’m pretty sure he’s in line to get minutes next season. But the Campanile stuff was/is legit. He was looked at by multiple teams. Campanile is a good coach who will eventually move up. There were definitely truth to those rumors.

What? I have no idea what you are asking. I didn’t say a word about Greg Frey nor did I say anything about other coaches. So you’ll have to clarify what you’re even saying. I’m talking about Campanile and that’s it.

NJ.com’s Rutgers Sports Insider first reported Campanile was no longer considered in the running to join Schiano’s staff with the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers was prepared to make Campanile the highest-paid coordinator in school history, according to people with knowledge of the negotiations

I was saying the rumors were legit. I mean I personally think Anthony is legit but that’s not what I was saying. What I was saying is legit is the information that umbig11 was given. Anthony was in a 3 team bidding war essentially and Harbaugh won by offering more responsibility and better pay.

At one point he was definitely 90% out the door. Also as far as him being legit, he is young and has been offered a DC position at three schools that I know of and more will come. Usually guys don’t get offered DC positions unless they are good coaches.

With all that said, I believe Campanile is probably the second best coach on the defensive side of the ball and would be a better fit as DC if Michigan were to replace Don Brown over Partridge. Partridge was a great recruiter and a good coach. Campanile is  right there with him as a recruiter and I personally believe him to be a better coach. Now that has nothing to do with the information that was shared, which is what I was saying was legit. But since you kind of brought it up, there are my thoughts on Anthony. He is a very good coach. He will be a DC sooner rather than later in his career.

I brought this up 2 weeks ago. Where is the better job security. D - coordinator at Rutgers, where you are guaranteed to get your ass handed to you on a weekly basis, and getting blamed for loses and becoming a scapegoat, or a position job with a pay raise at Michigan where you can wait for a better opportunity, and not get blamed for anything?

Oh I definitely don’t believe everything from everyone and I have definitely seen umbig11 be wrong, I’m only stating in this instance that I believe he had good info for a number of reasons and then Anthony changed his mind. He obviously didn’t answer me there, so who knows what all he knows or where he gets it. But there was a time when most believed Anthony was out the door.

I'm not impressed with LB play this year. Or a couple of other positions too. But I guess that's the new Michigan football.

I was wondering how that worked.  I couldn't remember who coached who as far as brown and linebackers.  This clears up for me why hudson had such a downturn since 2017.  Partridge was a much better lb coach and it showed once he was moved to safeties.  I was/am also hoping Campanile gets moved to safeties.  He hadn't coached lb since 2006 at a high school.

So the LBs were better this year than last? Uche lit it up this year like last year? Hudson came anywhere near a 8 TFL game like he had in the past? LBs were an exciting part of the defense like they were in 2017 and 2018?
