All quiet on the Harbaugh front...for now.

So a contract extension is allegedly on the table, JH is allegedly on vacay in Cali, and both JH and WM are allegedly waiting to see if the NFL comes calling for the Quarterback Whisperer.  Allegedly.
If both sides really wanted this deal done, guess what?  It would have been done. Absolute silence on an extension. What does that tell you?  It tells me that having JH as the HC, for next year and beyond, is both sides’ back up plan. WM is offering Harbaugh what he probably thinks is an inferior deal so he says “shove it I’m outta here”.  That’s because he doesn’t have the guts (or buyout money) to fire him. Let’s make him an offer he CAN refuse. Harbaugh is going to use the offer as leverage to get an NFL job. But if the extension isn’t a great one, what kind of leverage can JH have?

I say chances of Harbaugh leaving: 50/50.

The other possibility is that Harbaugh simply doesn't care that much about the details of his contract or the optics around when it gets signed. He knows he's coming back, probably still plans to be here until he retires, his focus was on his recruiting class which is now mostly signed, he's on vacation, and he'll get to his contract when he gets to it. I suspect this is a case where the message board cares more than Harbaugh himself.

We will be playing the Harbaugh waiting game. There’s a contract on the table waiting for his signature. But it will wait until the NFL season is over before Jim decides if he wants to stay or leave for the NFL. Since he has not signed my best guess is that he is NFL bound. I hope the University is doing a coaching search?

I believe that Harbaugh has likely already accepted the deal in general and they're just working out the finer points.  I believe he did this before he went on vacation for the holidays.

"vacation" --- interviewing assistant coaching and coordinator candidates is more like it.

Dudes back, he's got two years to clean up this dumpster fire, then the buyout becomes attainable by the old guys in the executive suites.
