"Herbie is so disliked by ohio

Herbie is so disliked by ohio state fans that he relocated his family from columbus to Tennessee years ago.  He wasn't enough of a homer for their liking and they literally harassed his family out of Ohio."

Or when his wife found out about his affair with a Columbus resident.....

ESPN has lost a lot of faces and guys like Corso are over the hill and at this point. Herbie has pretty much become ESPN's main cfb guy. I feel like the last two years this has lead him to get back to his homerism. He can pretty much say what he wants at this point knowing hell still be one of the ESPN golden boys the next day. So you have seen a lot more pro-OSU and anti-UM out of him lately. He can't be completely biased on Saturday but I expect the upward trajectory of his homerism to continue and really shine through during a few moments.

Exactly. This is spot on.

He's not anti-Michigan or pro-OSU at all. And I'd take him over those 3 as well...except we play well with Cunningham, so I'll take him even though I can't stand him. If it means another Citrus Bowl type performance, he and Mike Patrick can butcher as many names as they want.

But Herbie is as neutral as they come, IMO...he's not always right, and he's got some super hot takes...but he's definitely not a homer.

That said, I do think that at times he'd take Michigan or downplay OSU simply to motivate them and play "that guy" in the media. However, OSU is rolling and we're limping, he can't do that like he could've a month ago.

But screw the announcers, I wanna "hear" some football. Then I'll know we're winning.

Herbstreit always gets the game.  Fucking hate that guy as a broadcaster, but he always weasels his way in to getting the game.

I like Fowler and Herbie is decent for an OSU guy. He's tough on most teams, not just Michigan.

I realize that's not a popular opinion but quality options at ESPN aren't exactly abundant right now.

Ehh Herbie isn't that bad, used to be pretty unbiased. Although ever since ESPN fired everyone, he seems to be a bit more of a troll lately. I think he knows he's untouchable.

Bottom line, win this game and we get rewarded with Gus Johnson in the B1G Championship Game.

I never got the hate for the broadcast crew outside of it being a funny diversion (or Millen hate)...

I'm much more concerned with the officiating, how impactful the 75,000 drunk truck drivers can be and the typical call or two that goes against MICHIGAN in The Game.

Good. Also, I'm not sure I understand the hatred for these two. They are the best team ESPN has. I enjoy their calling games.

Considering the weight of this particular iteration of The Game, I guess I am not too shocked, but as someone said above, they were REALLY enjoying the Iowa game so hopefully this game is decidedly less enjoyable.....for them, not for us necessarily. Hopefully, we get to enjoy ourselves.

After the first Under The Lights game, I tried to give Herbie a high five in the concourse. Admittingly, I had tailgated for hours before the game and came on a little strong, but I was denied by his security. I hold a grudge to this day...

He, Herbie, will more-than-likely be gracious in defeat. This game is setting up like the '85 game where 2,3 and 4 all went down on the same weekend. Michigan rebounded with victories over IN and then OSU. Was a wonderful year. Expect victory. It will happen, and I am not one that usually gets a vibe until like Weds p.m. Bet your farm. I'll back you.

I don't like getting the echo chamber effect. I'd rather listen to a crew that is slightly antagonistic toward my team than blatant homerism in the face of every call. I like those guys of course but I try to watch all sporting events in that way. I like real, honest analysis and you can't always get that with analysts employed by the home team.

Probably half the posters here never had the chance to experience listening to Bob Ufer, with the most rememberable call being Wangler to Carter for a TD to win the game. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when he made the call and never will forget.

Announcers on the game can give or take a game. For the hell of it my favorites in no particular order. Lindsey Nelson and the plaid jacket. Van Patrick Lions on the 40 and a half we'll call it the 41. Keith Jackson amped up for 60 minutes. Ufer 〽️With enthusiasm unknown to broadcastism and the horn.
