57 Greatest Moments in Super Bowl History; Five of Them Involve Michigan Players
USA Today ranked the 57 greatest moments in Super Bowl history. These five directly involved former Michigan players:
18. Mario Manningham's miraculous catch in Super Bowl 46.
26. Ty Law's pick-six in 2002.
29. Mike Bass's pick-six in Super Bowl 7, when Dolphins kicker Garo Yapremian tried to throw a pass.
30. Brandon Graham's strip sack of Tom Brady in Super Bowl 52.
52. Desmond Howard's 99-yard kickoff return for a TD in Super Bowl 31.
There were several other plays that were in Tom Brady Super Bowls, but the Graham strip sack was the only one that directly involved him.

Uh, didn't we have a scrawny QB named Brady who played in a few Super Bowls? USA Today doesn't mention him? Welp, guess the kid never amounted to much. Ah well, not all who wear the Maize and Blue can be great ...

Yeah, no kidding. 28-3 mean anything to them?

I think they were ranking 57 greatest moments or plays, not players or performances.

Yep. I get that. But I can recall that there were a few great passes made in clutch situations, no?

Thinking about the Super Bowl against the Falcons, the Patriots performance in the 4th quarter and OT (and Atlanta’s failures) were spectacular. To the point above, there wasn’t one play that turned the game around.

It does seem hard to believe that in 10 SBs with 7 wins TB12 never had a single singular moment?!

This Play immediately comes to mind.

That play is #21 on the list, but it's credited to Edelman for the catch.
And as much as I have supported TB the Wolverine over the course of his career, the #1 play on that list should most definitely be Tyree's helmet catch! Simply the most amazing play in the history of football, given the situation!

I hate that play!

#11 on the list is Doug Williams comeback, so one would think Tom Brady’s comeback from 28-3 would count too. It wasn’t just one play or moment from Doug Williams.

Yeah I saw that right after the James White TD run against ATL. WTF?
February 12th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
Good list but disagree with number 1. John Riggins 4th and 1 TD run to beat the dolphins is imo still the best postseason run in history

In another universe, Marshawn Lynch scores on a one yard run and does not make this list.

Why 57? Was the list sponsored by Heinz? 🤔 If so, there may be a Pittsburg bias…
February 12th, 2023 at 2:18 PM ^
57 plays for LVII games played. 😉

Should have remembered that from my Greco-Roman wrestling days…

I think Chad Henne coming off the bench tonight in Super Bowl 57 and taking the Chiefs 95 yards for the game-winning score will make next year’s list.
February 12th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
But it would take a great signature play on the drive to make this list. A steady slog down the field capped by a rushing TD wouldn't cut it 🤷♂️

Chad Henne throws the ball to himself for the game winner

Not unless BG strip-sacks him first.

I’m amazed Brady’s tipped pass to Edelman isn’t on the list. Either way, with Brady winning seven Super Bowls you’d think he was on this list a ton.
Wirhout looking, I’m guessing David Tyree’s catch has to be #1, or top 5 at an absolute minimum.
February 12th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
It's on the list, at #21. But yes, that play should be Top 10 ...... if not Top 5. It was the signature play of the comeback.
Instead, James White's game-winning touchdown is at #10, which ....... well, it was the last play that put New England over the top, but by that point it felt inevitable.

I wouldn’t call Mario Manningham’s catch miraculous by any means. It was a perfectly thrown ball that was perfectly caught in a very difficult spot.

How many for MSU?

Leaving Brady moments off this list is absurd. What were they thinking?

My favorite is #29 Mike Bass scoring a TD off Garo Yapremian's muffed FG. Not only was he a Wolverine, but he also was an Ypsilanti High School grad. His mother was my algebra teacher at Ypsilanti's East Middle School in 1978. She even got Rick Leach to visit our class!
