It's in April so a lot of NFL people would be able to come. Would it be a recruiting violation for John Harbaugh, Brady, Woodson, Desmond, Henne, Lloyd Carr, Long etc. to be there.

Why would it be a violation to have people no longer employed/attending the university to return to campus to watch a practice? There have been alums at practice all season. The spring game is really no different than any other practice in that regard. Fact is, this isn't a recruiting event. This is a team practice that happens to be open to the public, that recruits happen to be attending. Absolutely anybody can show up, this isn't Indiana afterall, and as long as none of the above people actively try and recruit the kid to Michigan, there is no violation. Even if Tom Brady showed up and goes up to Brandon Peters and tells him to go to Michigan, it isn't really a violation. It may be a slight one, but it'd be nothing more than a "you can't do that," from the NCAA.

To be fair, I dont think Hoke was closing lines of communication or ignoring sports alumni.  I think that was a RR criticism that many here were happy to see Hoke fix.  Problem is you had a not well liked cancer hanging over the football program in the AD office.

Wouldn't it be cool of all the negative shit was left in the past for awhile?

What matters right here, right now for this football team is that a lot of former players are coming back.  That can only be healthy for the program.  We all know what happened the last few years and nobody liked it.  Thankfully, those years are gone.

300 former players being excited enough to come back and watch the game under Harbaugh has nothing to do with any of the old shit and all to do with the current staff, especially the head coach.  I plan on forgetting about old shit, enjoying the spring game and reveling in the fact that the program is finally headed back to dominance.

YMMV.

I agree Tater. This is about excitement. My sons birthday is next week. He asked to go to the Spring game, actually insisted. My wife moved our Florida vacation four days so he could go, she said this is an exciting time at Michigan. I am taking my wife and three kids ages five months to nine years old tomorrow. It is going to be awesome. Hail the Victors. Soon to be Champions of the West. Go Blue!

I wasn't trying to be negative, just noting that the previous poster had it wrong. Leaving it in the past is one thing, letting a false version of history propagate is another. Can't learn from the past if you take the wrong lessons.

Remember the reports on how much former players hated Brandon? I think there were a handful back last year--nothing like 300. Everything about Hackett and Harbaugh has been MAGIC. This feeling could be all the great news and anticipation over the spring game or the mighty fine bud I've been enjoying, but it's like WD slayed the Wicked CEO of the West--now it's the golden age in the Maize and Blue City.

The alumni flag football game that had been played before the final spring practice the last several years will not be held this year. But the former players will have dinner Friday night and during a "team meeting" they will discuss improving communications and information sharing among ex-Wolverines. This is part of Harbaugh's efforts to create an association for former players.

I had not heard about this particular effort, the one to create an association, but I think it is another connection that seemed like it had been lacking in previous years. Well, it seems like it had been ignored after having been there for previous years. Finding ways to reconnect and continue to celebrate the past while embracing the future is definitely another reason why having Harbaugh back in Ann Arbor at this particular moment is very timely and exciting.

that a formal association of the former players hadn't existed yet, in this modern social media age. I can understand during Bo's era or even Moeller to Carr not having a formal association, but after the RR transition, the Hoke transition, and the letter campaign last year vs. Brandon, I would have thought somebody would have brought the players back together by now. Harbaugh seems at ease with "new media" and networking in the modern age, so anything to bring more cohesion to the former player base and utilizing them as a combined resource is a plus.
