2018 Muskegon (MI) OL Antwan Reed offered by Michigan

Submitted by Dilla Dude on

Michigan just offered 2018 Muskegon OT Antwan Reed (6-7, 275).  He grew up a Michigan fan, but likes MSU and Penn State right now too along with VA Tech.

As a Muskegon alum, it would be awesome to get him in the 2018 class. He's only played one full season of football, but his athleticism, size and potential are all on the high end.

wow, that's a big dude for 2018. about 20-25 lbs away from from being a B1G linemen already!

FYI, 247 says he's 286, with UM and MSU as top contenders; 67% ballz to the good guys. obviously a little ways to go before he signs lol

yeah i get your point - but theres obviously a huge difference bw doughy, less developed 300 lb high school prospects and grown men whove put in work and sweat to transform their frames into game-ready 300 lbs.

not busting chops bc i get what youre saying, just pointing out that only so many prospects (particularly OL / DL) show up like laremy tunsil or cam robinson (or ben braden, etc) ready to ball and truly compete physically as 17-18 yr olds.

even a rare dude like mason cole, who proved he was ready at 18, has most likely overhauled his body over several years and still has room to develop.  just one of many reasons why its so difficult to eval teenage prospects and project several years down the line

All very good points, +1 for you, good sir. More than the weight, I was impressed by the height, seems like he could play inside or out.

But I agree that there is definitely a difference between good weight and bad weight. He seemed like a lean 280 from the pic, so here is hoping any more lbs come in as muscle!

Most 6'7" guys are automatically slated for tackle because their arm length allows for them to keep pass rushers from engaging them. It also seems to be that taller guys have a harder time keeping their pad level low, which is necessary to move 300 pounders in the run game, who generally play inside. I'm guessing he is a tackle all the way.

When do scouting services tend to release ratings for the majority of a class? So for 2018, is it summer/fall of junior year or is it end of junior year into senior summer?

If someone teaches him to engages his hips into blocks then he might literally kill someone in run blocking. Also, uses his hands fairly well for someone as young as he is, not something you see very often

I'm always impressed how much talent Muskegon puts out for being a fairly small city and just a single high school in it. They usually have at least 1 or 2 Power 5 caliber recruits a year.

Would be first Muskegon kid since Terrance Taylor. That's pretty surprising given the success of the program. Taylor might be the last kid we've even offered not counting Ronald Johnson. Maybe Damon Knox (MSU) had an offer?
