Ranked 34th.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
That's the 8th best B1G team.
August 20th, 2011 at 10:51 AM ^
In your haste, you pasted in the USA Today poll.
August 20th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
Derp. I'll change it to reflect the AP Poll, just give me a sec.
August 20th, 2011 at 10:56 AM ^
The thread title could also have been changed to "One Of The Preseason Top 25 Polls". If it's me, it's Saturday and I am lazy like that.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:02 AM ^
That would be pretty funny. OTOH I'm up in Michigan for my uncles wedding and the mimosas are already out, so f-it, I'll actually fix it.

August 20th, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
Isn't that a message to Mike Hart/EMU to win all their games except one?
EDIT: Actually it's a continuation of Brandon's previous tweet:
Great to hear u called ‘Coach Hart’ Good luck @MHart2032 with #EMU
August 20th, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
Ahh, that's what i was just about to add, right below is that tweet, so it must have been a continuation. Well, that joke failed.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
going 11-1 a joke in itself? I laughed.
August 20th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
It's weird seeing politicians or school officials like the AD use abbreviations like "u"
August 20th, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
Those still aren't the right rankings. Oklahoma should be #1, among other things.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:07 AM ^
Notre Dame at 11?
Lolwut
August 20th, 2011 at 11:38 AM ^
Let's change thus to, "Notre Dame at 16!? What!?"
August 20th, 2011 at 12:04 PM ^
He has ND at #6....yikes. He's usually pretty accurate
August 20th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
I'm not sure what is so crazy about this...they have 4*'s all over the place and a competent coach. We won that game based on them having to cycle through 3 QB's. They could be pretty good this year.
Hate to say it but it's true.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
Agreed. They were a couple plays away from ten wins with a first year head coach and a crappy freshman at quarterback. Also, their defense improved night and day with some competent coaching.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
You saw that in their games against a bad USC team, Navy, and the bowl game against a depleted Miami team in the bowl game? I don't know, I just don't see it.
By the way: Tulsa.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:34 PM ^
MSU beat them with a trick play at the end. They played MSU well.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:48 PM ^
You can call their opponents bad all you want, it doesn't change the fact that they're playing those same "bad" opponents this year, but with a more experienced team that's now in year two of a new system.
August 20th, 2011 at 1:34 PM ^
G.J. Kinne would of shit all over us.
September 4th, 2011 at 6:42 PM ^
So, now that Notre Dame lost at home to South Florida, will you all admit that Notre Dame was only slightly overranked in this poll?
August 20th, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
Looks like Hoke could get his first top 10 win in week 2.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
Make that top 15**
August 20th, 2011 at 11:19 AM ^
7 wins ain't gonna win you the Rose Bowl.
August 20th, 2011 at 1:05 PM ^
Ain't gonna keep you from getting crushed by Mississippi State in your first bowl game in 3 years, either.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
OT: What's with the scarlet red boarders around everyone's avatar? Did I miss something, or is my computer just melting down. It's like I'm on an Tsio board. Brady Hoke would not approve of this much red. It is not tremendous.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
when using IE. Doesn't happen with chrome or firefox.
August 20th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
Has been fine since, but it was enough to cause worry about a hacker assault from below the border.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
I see Wisconsin didn't get bolded, are they not in the Big Ten? /s
August 20th, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
August 20th, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
Oklahoma taking up the number 1 spot AND the number 9 spot is pretty impressive!
My guess is that you meant it to be Oklahoma State at number 9 correct?
August 20th, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
August 20th, 2011 at 12:15 PM ^
Happiness is MSU ranked in the preason and then going 4-0 or 5-0 before they play us. A nice win over ND, a Top 10 ranking and then a loss to Michigan makes Spartan tears ever so delicious. Plus it makes the East Lansing furniture salesman happy and stimulates the state econ.

August 21st, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
The way I see it they loose to ND. Sparty will try and rationalize it. They loose a close one to OSU; their confidence is rattled a tad and in the back of their minds they know the B1G title game is out of reach. So Sparty then focuses all their effort for two weeks on Michigan. They loose a heart crusher at home to Hoke-Robinson. Then they get the gauntlet of Wisconsin and Nebraska. Wisconsin will be out for revenge. With any confidence they may of had after the UM loss now gone they close the season with losses @Iowa and @Northwestern. NO BOWL. Sparty fades into relevance for good after Hoke wins the 2013 MNC.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
I know Cam Newton is gone but the defending national champs starting out at #23, I can't remember the last time a team went from #1 and had that much of a drop to start the next season.
Florida State at #6 is a little too generous.
Arkansas #15 just after losing Ryan Mallett is rather generous as well.
The 3 rings of evil at 16 through 18...we'll see how that goes.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
They didn't just lose Newton. They lost their whole offensive line, most receivers and a lot of defense including Nick Fairley. If they go .500 in the SEC, it will be good. Good talent , but it's very green.
August 20th, 2011 at 1:05 PM ^
Good point about Auburn. This post says it's been a very long time:
It’s the lowest a defending national champion has started in the AP poll since Minnesota was unranked to begin 1961.
EDIT: The AP ranked only 20 teams in 1961, so Auburn this year would also be unranked if that were still the case.
August 20th, 2011 at 11:57 AM ^
I see notre dame is over-hyped as usual early in the season. You would think that after seeing their performance for the past however many years, voters would finally catch on, but its the same reach as usual. I cannot remember the last time they were as good as their ranking (seriously, i really can't).
August 20th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
Hate to say it, but this ND team is probably going to be the real deal. They're littered with talent and finally have a HC with a clue. Wouldn't be shocked for them to end up as a 1-2 loss team.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
Really? Who's going to be their QB, because Brian Kelly doesn't even know. Who's going to be their running back? I actually like ND, but I don't think they're going to be that good this season.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
Actually he does know, he will announce tuesday I think I read. My guess is Tommy Rees.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:35 PM ^
They were in an identical situation last year and were 4-5 plays away from being a 2 loss team. Cierre Wood is a legitimate major D-1 running back. Dayne Crist will win the QB job and be as serviceable as both jimmah and quinn were. They return 16 starters (plus 2 special teamers), all now in their second year under the new regime. They will be favored in all but two games, and the michigan st line will probably be close to even depending on the UM outcome. Show me more than two losses on their schedule?
August 20th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
Looked even better than Quinn/Clausen when he wasn't hurt last year.
ND is actually the game I'm most worried about.
August 20th, 2011 at 1:27 PM ^
They only beat USC because Ronald Johnson dropped the game winning TD pass. They got blown out by Navy. Their best actual win last year was against a Utah team with an inflated record (got smoked by TCU and Boise, beat Pitt in OT).
Michigan returns more talent (from a team that was better last year) and (still) has a better coaching staff. These rankings will look a lot different after the season (and after week 2).
August 20th, 2011 at 12:35 PM ^
ND may very well be good, but how on earth can anyone claim that they have a HC with a clue?
Does anyone remember the Tulsa game last season? Kelly cost them that game.
What about the Michigan game? Passing up on a FG at the end of the half with his backup QB who tossed the ball out of the endzone by 20 yards IIRC.
This guy also put Crist back in the game against us, which never should have happened given his symptoms.
He also has no clue about video towers and wind speeds.
Let's not forget the Floyd situation...
I'm sorry, but until this guy proves he's not another Weis, I'm just going to assume he is. Great offensive mind and blowhard who is being annointed the messiah after one decent season.
August 20th, 2011 at 12:38 PM ^
He was 34-6 at Cincinatti. I think it's fair to say he's had more than one decent season. I'm not saying he's the next messiah, but he's lightyears ahead of the previous 3 coaching staffs
