'14 WR/SG Drake Harris to decide Wednesday
Sam Webb @SamWebb77
2014 Grand Rapids Christian 2-sport star Drake Harris @dharrisbball4 to announce decision Wednesday per his dad #Michigan #MichiganState #ND
Yeah, you guys need some beef up front in a big way. Those good LBs won't do much if they're getting DTs plowed into them all game, and those receivers won't do much if the QB's getting hurried before they can get to their breaks. LBs need a good DL to succeed - not a great one necessarily, but a good one. And OL controls everything on offense, so having great skill players does no good if they don't have anyone to block for them.
It's surprising that with the nightmare you guys had depth-wise at OL this past fall, Dantonio wouldn't have compensated by taking 5 OL like we did. He'll probably just coach up some other guys.
With the limited schollys this year, I think we will beef up on the lines next year. This year we have good depth on the OL and DE, not so much at DT. We have a lot of DTs just all of them are sophmores. The MSU staff views certain wideouts as a whole different posistion. Guys like Sims Jr, Jay Harris, and Kings are more return specialists.
Why does MSU have limited scholarships this year? Because of so many redshirts? I don't recall any NCAA sanctions.
They redshirt damn near everyone, and hardly anyone leaves early for the draft. Sooner or later that leads to a scholarship crunch.
The nightmare at OL last fall actually helped. It gave us guys who didn't have OL experience.. well OL experience. and to have all of those guys coming back, plus the guys who went down on injury, gave us a huge boost in depth. combine that with taking i think 5 OL in 2012, and its not as big as a necessity in 2013. 2014 however will be huge on the OL.
Define "sucked"? They were all 3 stars.
We had a logjam at DE and DT (partially the reason why we had someone move from DE to TE).
Evan Jones (TE) will most likely move into OT.
Like i said, 2014 is when we need to load up on OL. we need a few in 2013, but its still only June.
I looked at 247 sports rankings, and all were 3 stars. One was 27th in the country at OT, another was 47th. The others were in the top 100 at OT.
How would you know if we have talent at DL or OL? Are you at practices?
I mean, Wisconsin has good lines right? Those are all 3-stars.
I'm not sure how any of this is flaimbait when you started the topic of our O and D line, but okay.
Darien Harris, Jay Harris, Gary Harris, Drake Harris?
I think women's basketball has a harris too.
Hollis is an innovator, he's secretely planning for every single player on all major sports teams to have only harris's on the team...
Meh. We did the same with Robinsons. Not impressed.
lol, good point.
1. Play two sports
2. Steal laptops
3. ???
4. Profit
I think all the work Izzo has put into recruiting this kid will pay off for Sparty. Dantonio gets a free ride on this one, but he has to pay for scholarship.
I think Dantonio has finally found a way to recruit against Hoke. Find kids that love basketball and let Izzo recruit for him.
Its going to be MSU. People around GRCHS have known he's been high on State for a long time.
Also, his teammate Tommy Doles ('14 OL just offered by UM) is high on MSU as well
I am most definitely 100% dutch, also a GRCHS alum with a younger brother there
yeah, im "meh" on Doles,
but Drake has a HIGH ceiling aat WR. fragile though..
hope he picks blue... already very solid classs.....
and joins our bball squad..
...I do wonder if the offer to Tommy Doles meant anything....as in Drake would pick M if his buddy Doles also gets an offer....
The timing makes me wonder...
And, for the record: I, too, am Dutch -and a GRCHS grad- but I have no actual connections to give me any info on this decision.
If these two end up playing together, much more likely to both go to MSU than to UM...
I have a boatload of family at GRCHS that have been telling me MSU since his freshman year
From what I hear about GRCHS's change in strategy and bigger emphasis on sports, it sounds like this will actually be the case.
If they all want to play at MSU, then I hope GRCHS wins a lot of games with very average players.
The Michigan State fans I listen to, both reasonable men, believe he is all Sparty and actually aren't happy about it. For some reason, they believe his father is a headcase and not worth being affiliated with. Go figure.
I know what you mean. He plays entitled, and lazy.
and his dad is a character, ala Mr Grady
Good luck with his dad, Izzo and Dantonio.
his dad and a select few parents forced the bball coach out
Which coach? My middle school science teacher coached at GRCHS for a while...
...my mother's maiden name is "Bloem"...ya think we're related?
...Bloem clan that is Catholic and of no relation. If you're in that Dutch/CRC group, you almost certainly are. Your dad is prob. my mom's cousin. Out of curiosity, do you know an exchange student that teaches violin?
That would make more sense. I'm definitely not familiar with all our relatives past my immediate cousins, and even if I was, I have a horrible memory for that kind of thing.
My parents had an exchange student from Korea named Ji a couple years ago I think, and she taught some violin lessons, so unless there are some super strange coincidences going on, you're thinking of the right family!
Yes, you are family...though I'd have to ask my mom exactly how -but most likely as I said before.
And, my daughter took violin lessons from Ji at your parents' house.
That is what we call "Dutch Bingo"!
Haha, fantastic!
"MGoBlog: Bringing mildly distant relatives together." should probably be the new tagline.
Let the Dutchman weigh in on this one:
Drake's dad is looney tunes, and this whole thing is about his ego. Drake is somehow a humble kid and is probably embarrassed by the attention and wants it over.
I have seen the kid play both sports, and its very hard to say what he would be better at, but as a bona fide hoops junkie, I would be disappointed if I did not see him play bigtime college basketball. He does actually look like he's not always playing hard, but the game comes so damn easy to him, I think thats just how it looks. He is a physical freak.
Yes, I have "inside" information, and I won't say who it is. Strange things go on at GRCHS with their athletic programs. Many attribute it to Bob VanderWeide (of the Orlando Magic Dwight Howard drunk-dialing fame) but I can't understand what his motivation would be.
West Michigan isn't exactly known for its high profile basketball players, Drake is probably bored out there.
I heard his dad had some issues, as well....as in he was threatening the coach (football, I believe) to pull Drake and send him to a Detroit area (private) school if something didn't go his way....don't recall exactly what the issue was.
e-History indicates to me that when there's very little buzz surrounding a recruit and Michigan and then said recruit suddenly decides to announce that it pretty much never ever results in said recruit committing to Michigan. I'll be shocked if he doesn't pick MSU
WIAB may do the trick too.
Seriously, hope he chooses M over Sparty since we still need a big time receiver.
You do know that Michigan has won 3 out of the last 4 basketball games, right?
edit: yeah, this isn't anywhere near the comment I replied to
he's gonna shock the world and pick Notre Dame! hahaha
Well, if MSU boosters give money handshakes to out of state guys like Stanley McClover who are longshots to come to msu, I can only imagine what they offer to the highly-touted in-state recruits.
This is funny, because there's a Fab Five thread on the front page right now.
He is a Sparty. On to the next one.
So he's going to decide which sport to play and which school to attend in the same announcement?
I expected this recruitment to last a lot longer given his two-sport status. I suppose I agree with the consensus that he'll pick Michigan if football is his primary focus, and MSU if it's basketball. Yes, I know he will have the opportunity to play both but he's going to have to emphasize one over the other at the college level or else he'll be mediocre at both.
I'll go out on a limb (with no substance) and predict UM Football because 6"4 receivers are more valuable than 6"4 guards.
