[After THE JUMP: positivity if you can tunnel vision]

1. The Offense

starts at 1:00

Do you feel better? There was a rushing Rutger. Got rid of almost all the RPOs and just did play-action. That helped the pass protection, though Mayfield seems to be on par with Runyan in that. No Patterson runs until the goal line: He is this year's Hammerin' Panda. More things that made sense: Bona fide bubble screen to DPJ with all three receivers on the same side of the ball, and bombs away! Limited running game: Milton comes in and Hassan Haskins starts getting yards because the zone read game is on again. Turner remains slippery.

2. The Defense

starts at 24:40

Mesh throws: one was pretty blatant OPI but was going to work anyway because McGrone was out of position. Would like to see some dedicated mesh defense. More diverse between Cov1 and Cov2 now. Dwumfour step 1: out there. Can't keep Uche on the field because we can't play three defensive linemen. McGrone got a start with Ross in a boot, made Bush plays, was comfortable. Guy gets lit up by Dax Hill to save his team 10 yards so dap cheese to that guy. Dax pushing past Woods now. No Mazi or Hinton until super late; last play was Hinton—not ideal that Jess Speight is out there first.

3. Special Teams/Game Theory

starts at 42:56

Hot takes. New strategy for special teams: push your own guy into an accidental block in the back. North Carolina do you go for two? You gotta have a better play than running laterally against Clemson. If there's enough time like that left you shouldn't incentivize Clemson to go balls out.

4. Around the Big Ten wsg Jamie Mac

starts at 1:02:20

Iowa did better than we did against MTSU's all outside offense. Alaric Jackson could be back this week. Penn State looks good after demolishing Maryland. Go with Piggy! Northwestern handled Wisconsin's offense. Classic Indiana tries effort. Minnesota-Purdue one of the most remarkable stat lines: Tanner Morgan.

I am relieved we looked competent but the first test will be Iowa.  Gattis to the sideline may be helpful we will see this weekend.

Hoping Shea won't end up Hammered Panda this year.

This is why they say never make your hobby your business, you all are depressing as hell.  This and Friday’s MGoRadio are the first two times I’ve had to shut off the podcast midway.  Suck it up guys, stop giving up on the team!

This ^^^ !!!

This guy introduced, and continues to perpetuate, a negative meme into this blog and fan base (I won’t type it out, but you all know what it is!).  Too many in here follow his lead, if only because he doesn’t regulate the tone of the site, and the image of the fan base has evolved into a cocktail of delusional expectations, with a heavy dose of pathological self-loathing and envy.

We, my 10 year old grandson and I, made the drive from Kansas-for grandson's first visit to the Big House. Grandson was totally pleased and impressed. It was a most wonderful day for us.

An all around, well-played game for Michigan. Michigan needs to join the 21st century and be a predominately passing team.

My only complaints relate to personnel usage-if you are going to play questionably talented players then put the young kids on the field and see what they show (Glasgow and Sessa).

This is the closest we’ve come to looking as good as we should have looked against an opponent this year. Any opponent. Take that for what it’s worth, but recognize that our talent problems, especially on the interior Dline and in the running game, are not just going to fix  themselves. This team has a ceiling that is probably still below what the optimists and apologists hoped for at the beginning of the year.

It was nice to see some adjustments in game plan and some success, on both sides of the ball.

minus a couple turnovers the Midd Tenn game would have ended up pretty similar...

Season starts over now.

Onward Go Blue.

So are we assuming the lack of pulls by Patterson is injury related? Because to me it looks like the running game is getting bogged down because without the threat of the pull the numbers game up front is not favorable for the o-line. You could see the difference when Milton came in on that front. I really think the offense is going to need the pulls in their some point if this running game is  going to be good.

To me it makes little sense to have Shea pulling it a bunch in a game where you should win easily. So yes, it makes the run game more predictable and less dynamic but it lessens the risk of injury to your starting QB when your backup is already hurt and the third-stringer is largely an unknown.

That said, starting with Iowa the QB run game has to be a staple of the offense or Michigan will continue to struggle on the ground and undoubtedly will lose more games.

Question for anyone with advanced stats:

In the past 15 years, what percentage of Michigan punt returns longer than 15 yards have resulted in a flag on the play against Michigan?

My guess is the answer is ~90%.

Whenever I see Michigan receive a punt, I stare at the little space in the lower-right corner of the screen waiting to see the yellow flag symbol show up.  And there it is.  Every single time.

This was the first time I've really paid attention to the ad for Peak Wealth Management. I have to wonder if he has the right audience. Maybe I just suck with money, but maxing out my 401k, turning my mortgage to a 15 year, and putting $500 a month per kid into 529s is not even remotely realistic...

I'm sad that Brian has joined the negboys. He was the one sounding all the cautionary notes before the season started and now he has a sad. Guess that sells soap short term; not sure if it pays off too far out, though. Because lots of being good but not bought-player good is what Michigan is in for. Maybe with Harbaugh or with the next guy.
