Jalen Mayfield Opts Back In Comment Count

Michigan's right tackle is back in:

Obviously it's a big deal to get a potential first round tackle back, especially when he was the only returning starter on your line. Michigan is also still waiting on Ambry Thomas, who indicated he'd be open to a return in an interview with Jon Jansen.

Nico Collins declared after it was clear the Big Ten was intending to return to play, so that ship has likely sailed.

There is no content after the jump. However, Seth posted a Football Bits mere moments before this broke so go read that, Seth is very depressed he got stepped on but less depressed about the state of the OL.

Huge news! Let's hope seeing Mayfield and Paye come back (along with the OSU guys and most other big ten guys) entices Nico back in the fold.  He knew the conference was going to play but didn't know all these other guys would come back.  Might feel left out of the party!

I feel like Nico didn't declare that information after it was clear the Big Ten was coming back. That news only broke after. Nico didn't necessarily make that announcement. He could have signed an agent 3+ weeks ago for all we know.

You made the exact point I logged in to post. As far as I know, Collins has said nothing publicly about staying or departing. We only learned that he might opt out because someone scoured the NFLPA's records of player-agent signings looking for current college players. Collins may have signed weeks ago when it looked like the Big Ten would not have a meaningful season before the 2021 NFL Draft. Until we hear otherwise, I am going to assume that Collins will be leaving. But that's not the same as having an announcement that he's gone.

Exciting news.  I will still hold me breath that the NCAA will find a way to mess this up somehow by, I don't know, not allowing guys to come back if their last names contain more than 3 vowels or something like that.

Great news, now hopefully can get at least one of Thomas or Collins back. Honestly think Thomas is more important to get back. Mayfield can help stabilize a young line and Thomas can do the same for the CB position. I think there is enough young talent at receiver to get by without Nico, though it would be huge to get him back too.

Honestly if they get Thomas back and Milton is the real deal I am cautiously optimistic they can at least play OSU for the division. Now finding a way to beat them......
