Aubrey Solomon Decommits Comment Count

Ace

So it turns out the Georgia 247 post was the one to read into.

As Solomon said in the note, Michigan will get a chance to bring him back into the fold when he takes an official visit this fall. In the interim, the coaches will continue to push hard for four-star UT DT Jay Tufele, and we may see some names that haven't been mentioned around here in a while—Popo Aumavae comes to mind—pop back up on the board.

EDIT: 247 has an article up on Solomon's decommitment, and, well...

"A day or two ago, they sent my mom a card thanking us for going to the Michigan bbq, but we never went," Solomon said. "I do not know which recruit they were talking to, but it was not me. It was just a little heartbreaking, for me to supposedly be so high on their list, for them to confuse me with someone else. Plus they spelled both of my names wrong after I told them, but that was not the main issue. I guess they do not have tabs on me."

...that's not ideal. Solomon mentions his mom "loves" Georgia and that he didn't consult her before making his initial commitment. Even with the return trip scheduled, Georgia looks like a big favorite now.

Who was in charge of that? They sent him a thank you for attending something he didn't attend and then they completely fucked up the spelling of his name. If I were him I'd be like what the?.?.?. Do these coaches even know who I am or are they full of shit? Whoever this was, they need to get their shit together real fast or hit the road.....

.. an initial reaction like that, I would hope level heads would prevail given the staff hosted a satellite camp at his high school and all... obviously a clerical mistake by someone who maybe shouldn't be in charge of this going forward, but certainly not an indication our coaching staff doesn't know who any of the recruits are.  Odds are Solomon and Reese are the main reasons the staff held a camp at Lee County in the first place.

Screw up over the card caused Solomon to decommit or not that's embarrassing and will definitely be used against us on the recruiting trail. I do think Solomon was a tenuous commit to start with so I'm not incredibly surprised. Especially since Mom hasn't visited

Exactly.  The loss of Solomon is highly disappointing, but this mistake will be hung around our necks forever.  "Son, I know you've gotten great attention from Michigan and I appreciate what it means to you.  But I have a story to tell you about what that attention is really worth . . . ."

Tell me how your fake scenario plays out. I just don't see how this will hang around our necks forever. Quick question, what was the name of the school where the security guard didn't recognize the recruit's mother? Follow up, has that school disbanded their football program because of that? Come on guys, mistakes happen. Even when it's super serial! And although it is disappointing, it's not the end of times.

Him getting the thank you note for visiting the BBQ reminds me of an ex GF who was accepted into Michigan but ended up attending and graduating from Emory and yet four years later got some letter from Michigan saying congrats for graduating from Michigan.

Mistakes happen, mom wants him close to home anyway, no way to overcome that objection.

OK, one teensy flaw in your analogy:

Your ex don't play footbaw, and sure as Hail wasn't in the top 247 players of her class!!!

So no one gave a sweet fuck whether she did or did not end up going to Michigan!

Someone is supposed to care a great deal whether this young man ends up at MiChigan. That's someone's job, and now it's someone's ASS!!!!!!!!!!

Happy anniversary indeed. Write up he's secure only to swing and miss less than a couple hours later. Keep this up and..... I kid, I kid!! That's crootin' for ya. Good luck to him. And I agree, his recruitment was over before this happened, that's probably the only thing I'm sure of.

I'm guessing this wasn't a case of talking to a kid thinking it was Aubrey Solomon, rather a card that just got sent that shouldn't have.  Maybe he was supposed to attend but the list never got updated.  The name being spelled wrong is amateur hour though, shouldn't ever happen, not this day and age with the internet at your fingertips.

Best post I have ever read!!! I mean it! Best! Post! Ever! And I know this sounds like I'm being a DB, but to ask how something happens while you are making it happen! God, the irony is so rich I need a glass of milk to wash it down. Thank you for the lol! So loud in fact my wife hushed me because she thought I would wake up he kids.

Is it weird that that was actually my first thought?!? Harbaugh seems entirely too detail-oriented to let something like this happen under his watch. Sure he delegates, but it seems like something he would not allow to be screwed up. Oh well, we will snag someone else.

If he has to check on every piece of outgoing mail, we won't have a very good football team. He has to take the blame because he is the head man. But this isn't really something Harbaugh can control, other than hiring a new person to do that job and letting the new guy know what is to be expected. That aside, this isn't a small deal. That's a bush league mistake that Michigan should never make. Spell a recruit's name wrong, no big deal. Spell a committed player's name wrong, you deserve to lose the kid.

For any person involved in this egregious BBQ follow up incident. Service fee waived when I insert these with my boot. For them, I will don the heavy ski boots and even attach the skis before kicking, I mean, engage in "medically-indicated application." Sheesh.

May not be our day... We should work harder so tomorrow we are better than today. Other rival schools reeling in multiple 5 stars, and we have two decommits and one transfer. You can debate the merits & perils of each, but it's tough to accept some not gravitating toward Michigan football...For whatever reason.  How many more minutes until kick-off?

So who are these geniuses in the front office who do stuff like spell a guy's name wrong, send him notes about events he didn't attend, and put former Ohio State athletes in marketing materials?

Dare I say, a product of Dave Brandon's scorched-earth remaking of the Athletic Department?

I'm sure the thank you card is just an out for him to re-open his recruitment, as some have said already, but wow...how do you misspell Aubrey Solomon? I literally can't think of another way I've ever seen either name.

It cannot be that hard to keep track of the commitments and high targets, that is some seriously terrible organization and smacks of general bumfuckery that should have gone the way of the Hoke.

Some truth! A thank-you card sent from one teenager to another, possibly, the errors are grounds for discomfort but these small annoyances are most likely masquerading the real reasons behind a decommitment

Jesus effing Christ. Whoever handles this, whether it's an intern or someone with a full-time gig, needs to be fired first thing tomorrow morning if they haven't been fired already. It doesn't even matter that something like this cost us a high profile recruit. It's unbelievably embarrassing for a program and athletic department that is still working to repair its image. This is shit you should be able to entrust to a third grader, much less a grown person.

How hard is it to get an updated guest list, spell a kid's name right, and make a damn mural with the correct player's face on it?

This kid was on decommit watch as soon as he joined the class. We were just holding out hope that he wouldn't. Many people felt that it was a caught up in the moment commitment. Georgia was always suspected to eventually get back in the picture. Though our recruitment literature or school promo team needs to get their shit together. We just can't keep sending out stuff without paying close attention to detail. We're starting to develop a track history for making these kind of mistakes.

This guy has no clue what is going on!

He decommitted because of mistake and was sent a letter thanks for attending the BBQ.

So you scarp a full scholarship and your future on a mistake in an email? Did you call your future coach and talk to him first ?

Boggles my mind on kids and what they consider commitment. Says everything is great about Michigan still loves it but cuz of a letter and mistake he decommits haha

But think of it from the kids perspective - he's told for months that he's special to this staff. That they are truly excited about having him on campus and play for Michigan. Then they send him a form letter and misspell his name. That wouldn't send red flags up to you? Especially when the majority of the SEC keeps calling you? Hell, I get pissed off when Comcast screws up my monthly bill and I KNOW I'm just a number to those assholes. Imagine if they did that but told me I was one of their favorite customers. It makes it ring pretty hollow indeed.

.. they bust ass so much harder than many other staffs with the massive satellite camp tour they didn't need to do... then a detail like this gets missed, and it creates the appearance in some people's opinion the staff doesn't know what they're doing.  Kind of a kick in the junk to a staff that probably puts more work in than the majority of other staffs.  If only they could sit on their ass all summer like Hugh Freeze to make sure and send out proper thank you cards.

I'm not entirely making light of it, but where does the appreciation come into play for this staff hosting a camp at their high school... any good will from that undone by this?

I take comfort knowing that this staff I'm sure is 100% focused on getting the players already on the team prepared for their first game, and knowing all of this will work itself out if they just win.
