Pistons Hire Stefanski to Advise, Considering Casey for HC

I would actually applaud Casey as the HC.
Stefanski? Jury is out I suppose. This process is taking WAY too long.
we have no money for free agents and no 1st round pick so who cares how long they take
his X's and O's isn't all that good and his in game coaching has been a problem in which both were exposed repeatedly in the playoff.
Is DeRozan and Lowry contiuning to shrink in the face of adversity.
Unless your name is Brad Stevens and you are a supposed genius, all the coaches have the same Xs and Os. They aren not running elaborate plays in the NBA.
Eh idk about that. Coaches like Scott Brooks, Billy Donovan and Ty Lue look like deer in headlights in pressure situations.
There is a coaching tier in basketball, however, it is mostly a players' league at the end of the day.
No, all coaches do not "have the same Xs and Os." While talent is the most valued asset in the NBA, Greg Popovich and Brad Stevens are proof that coaching matters, especially when it comes to adjustments and matchups, and Casey failed consistently at both.
Had three Hall of Fame players during his tenure (Parker, Ginobili, Duncan), and some damn good parts around them.
The Spurs won because they were better than everyone around them, not because Gregg Popovich is out there calling Hoosiers-type plays. Here's the game plan:
-Parker/Duncan: PnR until you can't take it anymore
-Ginobili: Hit threes, and europstep the competition to death. Get to the rack.
It's a superstar league, period. Coaching RARELY makes teams better. NBA coaches are out there to manage egos and keep people in line.
You forgot the only player he coached that is actually in the Hall of Fame.
Just talking more modern era during their recent dominance.
After learning the Pistons turned down 6 draft picks (4 first rounders) to drop down 4 spots in the draft - 1-2 years ago... I knew the Pistons were a garbage/joke of an NBA team
Detroit was one of three teams to turn down the 6 draft picks for Justice Winslow https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/report-celtics-wanted-to-trade-6-pic…
Not taking these 4 first rounders (plus the 1st rounders they wouldve had) will HAUNT the Pistons forever
Is OK. He's not that much better than Stanley, both guys do basically the same thing.
Passing on Devon Booker and Donovan Mitchell are the bigger offenses.
There's nothing to prove that the Pistons were ever offered and turned down that deal.
First off, that sounds like a ton to give up for the #9 pick. Then we have to believe that multiple teams turned it down and rely on vague information like up to four 1st round picks. I'm not sure what that means.
I think you misunderstood the rumored offer. The Celtics were supposedly offering four first-round picks to any team that was in position to draft Winslow. So the Pistons could have had those picks instead of Stanley Johnson.
Process is not taking too long, it's seeing itself out. No reason to rush and screw up. Stefanski will be hiring a young GM (possibly Shane Battier) to run things and he's there to provide experience.
If this ends with the Pistons having Stefanski, Battier, and Casey they're in good shape for next year assuming Reggie can stay healthy.
Too long. You can't go this long without having anyone running the organization. There are other things besides what's in front of you that need direction.
Trade talks, draft discussion (even without a 1st round pick), other things that need to be addressed all need people in higher positions. This is a rutterless ship right now. EVERYTHING this organization does is in slow motion. It took Gores 2 damn weeks of meetings to finally decide he wanted to fire SVG, and he really didn't; SVG was probably too damn loyal to Bower.
When death is around the corner, I guess you are not as patient.
I am not trusting this Process..
I would love to see Battier here. The more I read about him the more I want him here.
I'd rather they took too long than hire ANOTHER coach that they give three years then fire. Three years is too long, a couple months to get the right people is fine with me. Just have a GM by the draft and get the right coach. And please, not a GM/Coach.
That need a coach are not going to wait around. In professional sports, the top guys go quick.
If the plan is to hire some up and comer or some random dude that no one wants, fine, take 10 years to hire your coach.
But if the plan is to grab the top coach in a very tiny pool of available people, you can't sit on your hands.
Our top candidate is a guy that was just fired. Doesn't seem like he's getting "snapped" up. It's not college. The new coach doesn't need to hit the recruiting trail. GM is way more important.
This franchise has lacked vision and direction since Bill Davidson passed away. Another 10 years in NBA purgatory.
Unless Jeff Bower will be the GM (shudders to think about it), it's hard to think that another GM would be willing to work here and have a new coach forced upon him.
