Baseball America Bracketology -- Michigan one of the last four in
Looks about right. Side note: I just noticed we are playing a nonconference game @MSU today at 3.
We had that nice streak, but still a pretty disappointing year so far when looking at the nonconference stuff (where the majority of the better teams are, of course).
Just thought they'd be a little better than this after stepping-up for most of last season.
Lost a recrod number of players to the pros. Lots of good folks coming in, bur they've probably outperformed first year expectations.
Michigan's weekend starting rotation has 2 sophomores and a freshman. The starting catcher is a 5th year senior who was a bullpen catcher last year. The starting infield has 2 freshmen and a JC transfer. There's another freshman starting in the outfield.
And here's the thing...those starting freshmen will be amazing in a couple of years, but you certainly can't expect this team to have dominated in February, playing their first college baseball of their lives. Especially playing 8 games out west, entirely against top-50 teams.
There are one or two really disappointing results (losing the series to Lipscomb, losing a game to Lawrence Tech), but other than that, Michigan has met or exceeded the expectations that any reasonable person would have had for them.
This was going to be a rebuilding year. A tournament bid during a rebuilding year would be amazing, and give the team very valuable experience for next year (when expectations would justifiably be high).
and I realize its a big IF considering baseballs previous end of the year nose dives but IF we win out we are at least Regular season co champs and that would make us a lock if their going to get Indiana (on a nose dive right now} and Iowa....
It's a very young team, so for them to maybe sneak into the playoffs again would be huge for the young guys.
