Elysee Mbem-Bosse apologizes
When I saw this, it reminded me of Jim Harbaugh's drunk driving arrest -- mainly because I just thought of the mistakes we all make. Harbaugh said that the DUI "made me a better counselor."
I'm glad that the tweets were determined not to be threatening. It doesn't mean it should be looked over, or even that he should be on the team. But it does mean I hope he learns from it and it becomes a turning point for him particularly given that he is still a young man.
I hear you, but it was determined not to be an actual death threat by the police.
I think a lot of people felt incredulous after finding out the police visited the kid in Florida 39 times leading up to the shooting, yet it still happened. I agree with you. The red flags have to be addressed. What else can we do? Imperfect system? Yes. We better err on the side of taking too much action--shouldn't we? We've already seen the side of not taking enough.
And then everyone complains about the nanny state...
Mistakes are "Holy shit, we drafted Jamarcus Russell, the guy has not work ethic. We fucked up."
Mistakes are not threatening the lives of people. Individuals who act in such a way need serious help.

Driving drunk is a far more life threatening thing than vague tweets IMO.

America is facing 5 Goliaths.
Al Qaeda, global warming, sex preditors, mercury poisoning. So do we just give up? Is that what we're learning in business school?

escalated quickly.

Do you even know if he actually had a gun? What a random thing to get so mad about with so few available facts.
Mistakes are typing "the guy has not work ethic."

To my knowledge he is a student in good standing at the university.

I doubt him "leaving the team" in November as Harbaugh indicated in the link was the first instance of an infraction on Mbem-Bosse's part. There have to be other things that have come up before for the staff to react this way. Clearly there's more to the story than Mbem-Bosse is letting on.
Drunk driving was just as stupid, and wasn't a mistake by any means either. These weren't mistakes; they were dumb decisions with consequences. Both have/will learn from them, I hope, but this isn't something we can just shrug away as "boys will be boys" or something like that.
The comments always read to me as more a former player lashing out indscriminately because he was unhappy with his termination at Michigan and using some terrible word choices/lack of context on a medium (Twitter) that amplifies all of those elements, not necessarily some calculated threats against a coach. But he could just as easily had this conversation in a private forum, and it wasn't a "mistake" for him to @ Harbaugh's twitter feed in his rant. He made a bad decision, and while I'm happy he recognizes his mistake, I'm not going to cut him much more slack.
You're insane. Oops. I just violated your civil rights. My bad.

His tweet was saying..Im pissed off and you better wath your back I have a gun...thats not a mistake thats a THREAT
I am booing you.
it makes it difficult to believe in the sincerity of the apology.
What a piece of shit.
Seriously, I hope he gets help. But fuck this kid. If, when you're told by police that your aberrant behavior is causing someone to fear for their life, you don't repent with your full being, but instead keep trying to make your original point, you are a piece of shit.
Sometimes mental issues cause people to become pieces of shit. I've witnessed it in person. I simultaneously hope that he is able to get treatment for his mental issues and also is given a 100 mile restraining order from Ann Arbor.
Based on his actions and public statements, I am confident that what is happening here is his, not any coach's, fault. I hope that he submits himself to doctors and takes their advice. I hope he isn't allowed to represent the University in any official fashion, except "student temporarily under medical leave."
I hope he gets help. But fuck this kid.
Really? I am sorry you have witnessed and may have been affected by mental illness, but I am not sure you understand it with your comment. A less judgemental approach would help you and others in the future.
What an awful way to start a comment. Obviously the kid is dealing with something and some action should be taken. But calling him a piece of shit without any idea of what he is going through is absolutely despicable. He went home for a family emergency and then got kicked off the team in short order. I am sure there are other factors but obviously he is having a hard time. I'm definitely not condoning what he said, but judging someone in their worst moment and saying "fuck this kid" about someone you only know from tweets you heard about is pretty ridiculous.
We should wish the best for the kid and hope he gets help. He obviously needs it. But to call him a piece of shit makes me think significantly less of you than a kid who uses social media to make non-descript threats.
You make me sick and I hope you don't come back to this blog.
Responding to huntmich btw...
Gotta second this. The kid even posted a pic of the report affirming his mental disorder. He's a kid, he has mental problems, can't come to grips with his situation, and now he has a metric ton of adversity staring his future down for him.
Animosity against a kid with mental problem who has not actually harmed anyone yet is awful. This kid deserves sympathy and help. Please don't post again here for a while.

The kid has mental problems.
What a great non-apology
Basically just a slightly calmer, less-threatening and more complainy version of his other tweets
"civil rights" caused my eyes to roll back in my head
I hope he can get some help and get his life headed in the right direction. I don't know the cause for him leaving the team, but whatever the reasons, he needs to be focusing on getting himself to a better place in life
"I was literally just sitting there doing nothing and my teacher gave me a detention. I literally didn't do anything."
I think I was 12 the last time I did that, how old is Bosse?
Yeah, because mental disorders are something only kids deal with and growing up makes the problems magically go away? Not sure what is more sad, this kid's situation or people like you persecuting a kid with a mental problem.

I have a brother thats on the spectrum and he's struggled with drugs and alcohol. Thankfully he hasn't let it take him yet. He doesn't make death threats and blame other people for his problems. He doesn't blame the system. Accountability, no matter what is what helps people eventually grow. If they have something to blame it on, it excuses their behavior, especially when other people help perpetuate their rationale.
"My brother is accountable and so this guy and all mentally ill people should be too" is just an outrageous hot take.
Unless you're a psychiatrist who treats him you don't know what is best for him. There are plenty of mental conditions that make it impossible for the person to be accountable, especially paranoia. Like. Legally unaccountable, which is an incredibly high standard.
Hope he gets the help he very obviously needs.

Very worrisome stuff. I'm with you in hoping that he gets some help, and soon.

It's possible that people misunderstood the target of his threats (thinking it was Harbaugh when it may have been someone else - a burglar?). But there really isn't any context in which publicly threatening to kill someone is OK. Also, he unquestionably called out Harbaugh in some of the tweets, even if he wasn't threatening him. And his whole stream of consciousness raises some questions about his mental state at the moment. Those questions could be answered in the negative, but do need to be raised.
