Nassar scandal cost
Engloer's former press secretary hired at $325 / hr for PR on the scandal.
Seems like the existing VP should be on the fired list.
Hope they disclose the full cost of all of these efforts.

What?
February 20th, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
Seems like a reasonable hourly rate to me. To be honest, I'd charge more just to be associated with that school.
February 20th, 2018 at 11:29 AM ^
That was my first thought. $325/hr is low for a guy who runs the PR company.
February 20th, 2018 at 3:36 PM ^
Probably a bit on the high side of reasonable given it's a government client, and in mid-Michigan. But in the Bay Area that is like a paralegal's hourly rate.

Be honest, was this just a weak excuse to post another Nassar thread?

If someone else posted this, I would have wanted to read it.

$325/hr isn't unreasonable. My guess is the hourly rate for their attorneys is higher than that. I think MSU's handling of this situation is terrible, but them paying below-market rate for services that places like MSU need in situations like this (I'm not debating the moral argument people have about PR spin of systemic sexual assault) isn't that weird.

He is hiring every crony he can find, or anyone he owes a chit to. That should have been the thread, not $325/hr, which is not all that unreasonable.
But by the time you add up all his crony hires, the cost is going to be astronomical. It will only be made miniscule by the final tally on the payouts to the people who sue/make claims as victims.
Hopefully, it will break them, and CMU can take over as the second university in Michigan.

What? No love for GVSU?

Two point here. MSU has never been, and never will be used in the same sentence as the word prestigious. Second, no matter what has occurred, "the university itself" is not going to "crumble" to the point that "relevant" students are transferring to Western and Ferris. They will wear a GIANT scar over the Nassar tragedy, and will pay out millions of dollars, but that's it.

Article says he usually charges $437 for a crisis. So MSU is getting a deal because this guy is an MSU alumni. If he had any wits about him, he would be charging them his normal crisis rate. They did an inexcusable thing and need to be charged for it.
The cost should be more.

Nassar and his enablers have brought a tremendous amount of shame to MSU.
The OTL piece regarding Izzo/Dantonio has a lot of question marks around it.

Questions like "Why does Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio still have jobs?"

Tell her to organize a strike with the students too.

come at the cost of the taxpayer? It is a public institution. . .
Alumni donations are down 25% so far and I'm certain applications for enrollment are going to drop.

I have zero problem paying out money to help the victims.
MSU can hit it's own coffers or its endowment to pay for PR help.

You should mind. It's not your fault.

msu and it's trustees protecting themselves with paying for lavish legal expenses and hiring of extra staff for damage control.
February 20th, 2018 at 7:37 PM ^
They aren't going to get extra to cover their PR and legal expenses. They'll either have to cut back on other expenses, float some bonds or tap their endowment.

Truscott is a Spartan alum (two degrees)
Truscott was Engler's Comms Director when JE was gov.
Truscott owns his own spin machine. Today he promoted an open letter penned by a notorious RCMB wanker amd said "all Spartans should read this analysis"
That analysis was titled "Paula Lavigne is a liar".
Michigan State continues to amaze me with their endless self-righteousness and blithering network of Jagaloon "Bruh"s.

Fire Izzo
Fire Dantonio
Fire everyone on the Board of Trustees
When does MSU's request to absolve themselves of civil cupability get denied in court? I need to set a Google Calendar reminder for that and create a thread that day. That will be a great day.
Anyone have the PACER (https://pcl.uscourts.gov/pcl/index.jsf) case information?

All this would be handled so much differently if it happened at Michigan. That would be by necessity.
MSU gets a lot of protective cover from the media and has no academic, social, or cultural tradition near as well regarded to live up to. They can be the sports factory and since that's all anyone really expects, they can be that with minimal outrage.
To a great many people who associate themselves with MSU as alumni, the last few years success in two major sports IS the tradition.
I am a State graduate and the place wasn't known for much as recently as the late 90s. I always struggled to give it identity when I'd talk about it in professional circles. And I was there 6 years. I knew it inside and out. There was nothing inherently special about it and you never got the sense that mattered to anyone to create something special.
I guess if those two clowns had been so integral in creating your only actual identity, you might also behave transparently callous to protect them. You wouldn't understand the optics the rest of the world sees. You'd have tunnel vision and could easily con yourself it's all a big made up lie by investigative reporters with an agenda.
Save those two and the narrative surrounding their tenures, save the school. It's warped.
And the rest of the world has moved on throwing them on the Baylor pile. Moreso with each day of PR firms, and two coaches ducking answering obvious questions.
But that's all OK because to many many people who should know better, a few sports wins in the internet era all the identity the place has.
