Barstool Spartan saying Izzo & Dantonio may "retire" soon (Update: Quinn says no)
Alright, I'll come out and say it that I realize Barstool Sports isn't going to be considered the most trusted of sources, so mods , feel free to delete, but I thought this should be posted (this is a verified twitter account, BTW):
BREAKING NEWS: Sources close to the Athletic Department reporting that Izzo may retire within next few days, Dantonio soon to follow.
— Barstool Spartans (@BarstoolMSU) January 26, 2018
UPDATE:
Someone from The Athletic that covers MSU says this isn't true (although, they all said the same about Simon and Hollis)
There are "reports" popping up on these interwebs, I believe from fake or spoof accounts, that Izzo is planning on announcing his own retirement in the coming days. A source close to Izzo says this is "nonsense."

What would suck about this would be the built in excuse by sparty fanz for why the football program falls apart.
January 26th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Wrong. This sucks for many other and far more important reasons.
January 26th, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
Well, beyond everything else.
They'll still use it as an excuse though.
Blast me for this if you like, but I wanted their downfall to have been on the field & court. If true they are getting what they deserve, but this will give sparty fans an excuse for their downfall. In their argument, Dantonio will have gone out a winner.

If it's true that there have been 16 sexual assault charges against Spartan football players since Dantonio took over, then the bloom has to come off the rose. There's no way that the crafted narrative image of Dantonio as a disciplinarian and good guy holds up.
16 cases of sexual assault? That's just a case of doing nothing about stopping it. More like keepig it quiet so business as usual proceeds. It seems Dantonio is on his way to joining the 'many currents' of Peter Secchia's river analogy.
But hey, MSU, did win some football games. They got that going for them. Spartan fans, is it really worth it to win with that 'culture'?

I don't know if it's true but it needs to happen soon.

I get people are going to keep posting every little thing related to the ordeal, but please, at least not pure garbage.
Edit: In case confused, I have a banned user's responses to my comment now.

Think about all of the victims before you post something stupid. This is about the victims. Not our rivalry with them in football and basketball which are just games.
January 26th, 2018 at 4:01 PM ^
While I agree that Barstool Spartan may not be the most reliable source, how does this affect the victims?
Maybe, just throwing it out there, it has something to do with you joining the blog today...maybe.

If only "Team MSU" would have thought about the victims, your school wouldn't be in this mess.
January 26th, 2018 at 4:10 PM ^
This is still news worthy and worthy of a thread on the most read UM blog on Earth...

It's obvious that neither Dantonio nor Izzo will survive the fallout from the ESPN piece. My best guess is that Izzo will try to "get on top of the story" and announce his retirement effective after this season. That way, he gets to coach what he called his "best team ever" before the season began through the NCAA Tournament, which he feels he has a chance to win.
As for Dantonio, I would guess he will either "retire" or get fired in the next week or so. Sparty trolls aside, there are a lot of Sparty fans who are honorable and don't want to see a culture of sexual abuse at their school. They will decide a few more wins are not as important as cleaning up their school and they will turn on both coaches.
Also, as David Brandon learned, student demonstrations can go a long way toward swaying administrative decisions. I am guessing there will be a large demonstration demanding the firing or resignations of both Izzo and Dantonio in the next few days.
Short version: both coaches are gone. It's just a matter of how soon. The sooner they leave, the sooner MSU can start cleaning up their cesspool of sexual abuse.

claiming a source that Izzo will retire at the end of the season. It's more believable than the first tweet, probably no more or less reliable,
No one is charge to fire Dantonio now. If it happens, it will be after a new president hires a new AD.
January 26th, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
With Hollis running toward 'solutions' in retirement {and not running away from the troubles at all}, Dantonio is in interesting position. Who would fire him?
It will be interesting to see if Dantonio takes the path Hollis has taken as well, or if he tries to ride this out. I don't see how he can hide from this. There is blood in the water so to speak. This will not be like the Bullough 'Rose Bowl' saga. I think the stories come out this time around.
January 26th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
...the torch and pitchfork crowd will be out. They'll be demanding him to step down immediately. They'd have a point also. If the Walton stuff is true, he should be gone. We also know the BoT won't intervene in the case of Izzo or Dantonio. Where is Graham Couch's take.

January 26th, 2018 at 6:02 PM ^
I would have guessed everything short or armageddon or the apocalypse would prevent them from being fired or retiring. But now I don't know, I am still thinking they will circle the wagons.
With the BoT handling the President hiring I can't see them picking anyone but a yes man/woman. I would love to have them pick an academincally focused outsider who could give two shits about athletics to clean things up - but I do not think that happens.
I hear Rick Pitino is free, he could be the new AD.

You seem to be spending a lot of time thinking about what people say on Mgoblog instead of thinking about the victims.

It has not stopped them to this point and you have to belive there has been negative recruiting aroubnd these tops for awhile. I am guessing they continue to sweep things under the rug unless the new President is not hired by Ferguson and his cronies. I'm sure they are waking George Perles up right now to make him a candidate.

Who is Barstool Spartans?
Anybody can tweet anything. That does not make it news.
What else have they ever done that merits credibility?
Why is this mystery source the first to report it . . . but nobody else has?

FWIW, it's a verified Twitter account. So it's at least operating under the premise of journalism. It's not like a random twitter dude.
January 26th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Ehhhh I don't know if I would go that far. The verification only says that the account is an actual Barstool account. Not sure that Barstool is known for their journalism. I read this and immediately assumed it was barstool trying to get a rise.

I have felt anger, sadness, shame, confusion, and now a little bit of guilt as part of me hopes these coaches who have had our number get ousted. At this point, I encourage myself and all of us to check our hearts and pray for justice.
