A great week of sports!  Go Blue!

Go Blue!

That was an exciting basketball game.  I am just so excited!  Can't stop smiling and feeling joy after that one.  Wow!

What a game!

That was spectacular.  Wow!  Go Blue!

Wow!

What a performance tonight.  Elite 8.  Go Blue!

winning....

9 of 15 and 3 in a row....   feels good!

fans.....

Personally, I believe the majority of both Michigan and MSU fans are good people who want their team to win.  Sure, we get fired up and may say one or two things now and then, but the trolls are not the norm.   They are the exception.  It's just that now a days, people focus on the extremes.  What shows up are twitter whines, board meltdowns and crazy things people say.  But I don't believe that's the majority viewpoint.  Most of us love football and support our schools.

When a Sparty Troll starts up with Walverines or whatever it is, I just put them on ignore.  But living in Georgia, I am almost always glad to run into Big 10 people.  (Even Buckeyes!  Gasp!).  We are united in our love for the game and the schools we support.  Living in S-E-C country, I am excited to see the Big 10 rise (East).

M-MSU is a great rivalry and honestly, you can't have one without the other.  I care about college football for many reasons over the NFL, but one of them is the distinctiveness of the old Big 10 (i.e. not Rutgers, Maryland).    M vs. MSU is a date to circle on the calendar every fall and though the outcomes have been miserable at times the last decade, I'm tuning in next year with renewed hope for M,   Without MSU or Ohio St., Michigan football loses that special sense of urgency for me.  I'd still follow it, but as we all know one of the first things people bring up with Harbaugh is the rivalry record.

Truly, it may sound odd, but I have missed Notre Dame on the schedule the past few years.  I am so excited we have the opportunity to beat them next fall.  I've been follwing Michigan football for over 40 years and MSU rivalry is an important component of the passion I feel even after all this time.  So, as much fun as it is to talk 'hate', I don't really 'hate' Sparty.  I just want my team to beat theirs .... with integrity on and off the playing field.

Happy times in NYC!

Wonderful game today!

Day of milestones!

Good stuff!  Go Blue!

this guy......

Sparty John sounds like a sad person beyond this game result today.  I guess online you can say whatever you want, but I really hope he does not think like that in real life.  I can't imagine being like that 24/7.   Glad most Spartan fans are not like that.

Great game today though.  Go Blue!

P. S. Keep those wagons circled tight and hug your Izzo dolls while you fight back those salty tears, Sparty Trolls.

Wow!

Double digit bookends to that win streak they had.

Yeah!

That felt good!  Go Blue!

Wow!

That was awesome!  Go blue!

thank you for this!

I appreciate the clarity you bring.  Forget sometimes that many are involved in the recruiting process.

lol!

There are times when you let the other guys have their moment... apparently this is not that time for you.  LOL!

Great News!

Welcome to Michigan!  Go Blue!

Good times!

Go Blue!

Love it.  Exciting game and wonderful day!

Best of luck to him

When his team is not facing M.

coaching world in action

It sure seems like a lot of the coaching resumes out there in college football land have people moving around often early in their career as they make a name for themselves.  For every Jerry Hanlon or Greg Mattison, there's a dozen guys I would not recognize. (ok, hundreds, thousands).  Sorry coaching guys.  I'm just some guy who loves Michigan football and doesn't get all the inside stuff.

Point being, from layman's perspective:  coaching world is unique and difficult to work up the ladder.  I think the love of football drives them to do things I would not be able to do.  I admire that commitment and perserverance.

Smart move

With all the young talent M has a wideout and slot, player development is going to be a big deal.  An experienced WR coach is a definitely a plus.  After the Florida meltdown, this a great landing spot for him to coax the talent to perform at a high level and move on from the Florida experience.  Good move to reboot career in AA.

It's good to see M successes!

Thank you for posting these pieces of good news to remind me that M athletics is doing great things in a variety of sports.  Go Blue!

well done

At first this 'minxed' me up.  Confused.  I was 'unsable' to get the names connection.... then I 'ferretted' it out.  this made me laugh!  very funny!

Why can't you just give Brandon G props he's due?

Why bring that other stuff in here?  Celebrate Brandon's success and his team's moment.

Go 55!

Great moment watching Brandon Graham make that play.  Great win for Philly.

After all he went through during RR era.  I immediately thought of Magnus' avatar picture.  It's amazing to see him so happy and successful.  A Super Bowl Champion!

Congratulations, Brandon!

question

What was the story on Bullough and the Rose Bowl game when he was 'suspended'?

Sad

I really hope MSU gets knocked out of the NCAA tourney early and their season is ended.

Oh wait, I say that every year.

But this time it is because they shouldn't be playing as if everything is fine on their campus because it is not.  The 'game goes on' mentality is deeply disturbing.   Due process gives them the opportunity to flaunt their fancy team's success but the lack of decency and corruption will be paid for in time.

Spartan's Will and the land of make believe

Seriously, no one  on BoT at MSU thought to do a background check on Engler's record as governor on sexual assault related issues?   How is that possible in this day and age?

I mean if you are going to bring in someone to help correct a culture that has been permissive toward criminal sexual assault and have patterns of coverups and denial of victims rights .... oh wait!  MSU BoT is solving 'the problems.'  Just maybe different problems from what the rest of us think are problems.   We just need Ferguson to tell us about how much else there is going on that is important again.

Attetmps at business as usual in East Lansing.  Staggering... beginning to wonder just how far they are willing to go even now to protect their 'winning ways'.  Like a dark, corrupt form of "Spartans will".

I guess Ole Miss did not pay enough to be in the video

too bad.

Thank you!

appreciate that dose of actual facts!

interesting.....

My take is Urban thinks OSU is best with his roots and history.   (Only other possibility I could think of would be... Notre Dame... nah).

agreed...

Atlanta's population has grown from nearly 3 million since I moved here in 1989 to almost 5.8 million in 2016.  (Don't know current estimate).  What strikes me is that it is a steady growth from '90 til now.

Gwinnett County, a north metro county, for instance was on fastsest growing county lists throughout the 90's and now boasts upward toward 150,000 school age children by itself.  But seeing it transform in real time on the ground has been remarkable.  Where did all those farms and country roads back in late 80's go?

Cherokee, Forsythe, Cobb and other counties have also experienced growth as well.  Oh, and do they love football here or what?

SEC is everywhere

Georgia and Florida have so many talented athletes between them.  It's really amazing how many teams get athletes from both states.  Don't forget the ACC and non power 5 conferences too.

What I am curious to see over time is if in state schools like Georgia Sate, Kennesaw State or Ga. Southern, rise up.  Southern has had success, but the newer programs will be interesting to track.

Traditionally, with Tech and UGA as the only big names, that meant a well worn path out of state for athletes looking to play ball in college.   Two schools can only take so much of the talent.  Plus Tech had admission standards that were higher than many neighbors.

There's already lots of video

Dantonio has multiple clips out there that just don't matchup to the facts and evidence.   I agree that there is a love of winning and Dantonio is very popular among MSU circles.  I get that.  But the assumption would have to be that the story does not advance and that victim testimonials aren't shared.

They will be shared.  Then video of Dantonio saying things directly oppositve will be contrasted.  He will end up looking very badly.

Dantonio has 'doubled down' in the age of video and intense sports coverage:

"I have received many questions and inquiries about today's reports and latest reports. I'm here tonight to say that any accusations of my handling of any complaints of sexual assault are completely false," Dantonio said. "Every incident reported in that article was documented by either police or the Michigan State Title IX office. I've always worked with the proper authorities when dealing with the cases of sexual assault. We have always had high standards in this program, and that will never change."

I don't think that will hold up.  That's just the tip of the iceberg.  Notice his choice word 'always'.  That leaves little wiggle room.

not so fast....

Briles did not survive at Baylor.  Jo Pa was quietly shuffled off into retirement.  I think consequences are coming.

The problem is that Dantonio and Izzo has been highly successful and there has been a mechanism in place to protect them and 'spin' their images.  That works as long as MSU, local reporters and local authorities are the only ones 'in' on the trangressions.

What is different now is that MSU does not have control of the narrative any longer.  That means others will be deciding what takes place.  There will now be external pressures that did not exist before.  For 11 years, or so, they were able to pull this off.  No longer.

Break the silence!

The pervasive nature of this cover up and enabling is just staggering.

What was it the MSU board of trustee said," People are lining up to get in MSU?"

The dismissive arrogance toward these last 10 plus years of a cultural blight just makes me think MSU's trangressions are widespread on an unprecednted level.  Time will tell, but it appears that this was a singular focused machine of winning sports events and games.  No shame.  No stone unturned, if it meant winning.

MSU's story has so much smoke now though that they will be made an example.  There is no way this story gets buried.  It will get even uglier.

I think the narrative has to focus on the victims and their families.  Get those stories out and there's little the MSU slappies can say to stop the reckoning.  Truth will hurt but it will be brought to light.  Break the silence!

correct

I think the environment is now changed and the loud voices will be heard.  When MSU had control of the narrrative, they could hide things.

Go Blue!

Great news.  Love it!

Wow!

That's just crazy.  Thank you for sharing that.  Hope that most of the MSU stakeholders don't buy into this crap.

Dantonio does not go down on his own choice...

but he's lost control of the narrative.

Truth seeps out initially and later pours.  He's not going to last.  Times change.  What's worked for him last 11 years or so, won't be saving him this time.

Thank you!

Yes!

yeah I guess they can live in that bubble...

but good luck keeping it intact.  They just need to keep telling themselves that...

I am curious to see how the overall MSU

body of graduates, parents and current students will respond.  There have been a few slappies tweeting or posting bravado at RCMB, but MSU is not full of fanatics and idiots.

Overall, there are many good people who are intelligent who have daughters too.  I just have trouble accepting that MSU stakeholders outside of some donors, fanatics and trustees will be fine with Dantonio coaching on.  Grass roots response from MSU students even could go a long way to getting MSU back on the path to correcting the culture.

Winning is just not everything.  I think the 'on field' success pales' in the harsh light of this day.  No school or university should be proud of accomplishments that come at a human cost of suffering like these.

Personally, I think now that people actually are beginning to understand the gravity of this, many will snap out of the 'must beat the rivals and win' mentality.

I get that but....

Klages has been gone for a while now.  Nasser has been convited.  Simon and Hollis going down seems to indicate that this is serious enough even beyond that.

Connecting the dots from there tp other parts of the athletic program will take time.  But there's definitely smoke here.  Don't think MSU leadership gets away with just what we've seen so far.

The witness statements are fresh in peoples minds and the numbers are staggering.  This has traction.  What will be the issue I am thinking is evasive coverup and outright lying.  Dantonio's "I've done nothing wrong" coupled with other statements he has made over time will be contrasted with evidence and facts that investigators gather.  So, I think results will be more of the forced to resign rather than jail variety but there will be change.

If I recall correctly....

The byline video said that he issued his statement in front of 'local reporters'.  My take on it is that business as usual has been predicated on controlling the narrative.

Now, that's going to be harder to do.  Doubling down seems to be prevalent these days as a first response (see Weinstein, Wynn and others) until their position is untenable.  Then, there is the moment when they step down due to the distraction the allegations are causing etc.  (i.e. no admittance of guilt).

It's going to be hard for MSU to 'protect' Dantonio or Izzo.  Story is hot and too many non-MSU stakeholders are involved.  Fake news days are over in East Lansing.

This! The local media no longer has control....

The narrative has shifted and people are horrified.  There is no way for STATE to control this narrative anymore.  The stories are coming out and there are many people now at work or who will be at work to uncover what's been going on.  Much easier to hide the truth when no one is looking for it or suspects the depths of the depravity.

Let Izzo and Dantanio protest with their innocence.  Time will deliver the recknoning.

Dantonio reportedly said:

Dantonio:  "We had one incident that involved three people. We had another incident that involved one. We have 120 players usually on our football team," Dantonio told reporters, again emphasizing the time span of 11 years.

In 2017:  "This is new ground for us," Dantonio answered. "We've been here 11 years -- it has not happened previously."

Then the article proceeds to outline reported situations starting in 2009.   I am thinking those quotes from Dantonio don't quite seem up and up in the honesty department.

Is PSU going to sustain it's success without Moorehead?

I am not so sure that Franklin will continue to get it done.  We'll see but I think PSU regresses over time.
