OTL is going all in on MSU, Izzo, Dantonio
January 26th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
I think you mean "a part of the NCAA"...
January 26th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
Haha thanks. I just don't get why these institutions get the privledge to continue to profit off of sports. Even if every coach, AD employee, and faculty member of MSU was fired today, tomorrow they will make money because of what those people have done.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
Looks like the 'red lock' finally got picked.

"retire"
January 26th, 2018 at 1:37 PM ^
Assuming these reports are even 50 percent accurate, Izzo and Dantonio need to be fired just as soon as someone can establish what they knew when.

A lot of us knew/believed MSU handled these situations poorly and enabled players to get away with a ton of bad shit.
Details like Dantonio had a player talk to his mother as punishment for sexual assault turns vague accusations into specific, damnable offenses.
January 26th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Dantonio punishing a player by making him tell his mother what he had done, for one.
January 26th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
Problem is the only people in a position to fire them is already complicit in the systemic failure to begin with. Pressure from the media and from the greater community would have to become so unbearable that they would have to step down. My guess is Mork cracks first--he was likely only planning to coach a few more years anyway. I hope he's proud because here cometh the fall.
January 26th, 2018 at 3:37 PM ^
That's an interesting question. It can't be an internal hire. The interim replacement will be and can't be expected to make any big moves. They need to hire a new president first. Anyone credible who wants the AD job will also want the authority to clean house. That probably goes for the president too.

politicians aint going to alienate any voters, even sparty fans.
January 26th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
Lame duck governor that is term limited, but he can't do anything about MSU
January 26th, 2018 at 1:38 PM ^
I wonder if some of this is from ESPN suing MSU last year
January 26th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
MSU apparently tried to sue them in a related issue, all related to an FOIA request.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
And Hollis said he wasn't "running from anything" in his resignation. What a scumbag.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Eh, I'm sure he planned all along to retire in late January, in the middle of basketball/hockey season. A natural stopping point in the calendar if there ever was one.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Where's the threat?
January 26th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
He is not just running away. He is sprinting his ass off.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
as things get a closer and closer look. Sounds like more NCAA and private liability issues if they were really allowing the team to investigate/judge/punish claims of sexual abuse or harrassment.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
January 26th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
The preponderance of evidence, and the heinousness of the crimes means NCAA HAS TO consider death penalty here.
And to think, there was support for LAS, Hollis, Izzo, and Dantonio, and all of the rest of them as recently as 4 days ago.
Burn, baby, burn.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
Both will be out within a month.
So bad for STATE
January 26th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
<Ritualistic type chanting> "Burn.. burn... let them all burn... burn.. burn.. let them all burn..."
January 26th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
wow.... amazing they learned nothing from penn state and baylor... way to sparty, sparty
January 26th, 2018 at 1:46 PM ^
I just read through the whole thing, they basically have done everything they could to sweep this stuff under the rug and now it's all coming to a head. The NCAA is gonna drop Lack of Instituitional Control on them quick.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
January 26th, 2018 at 2:02 PM ^
Seems like an institution fully in control, making thought out decisions to protect the bottom line above all else.
January 26th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
Yeah, it's worse than lack of control. It's full and malicious control.

Holy fucking shit.

In this climate I believe we will see sanctions. The #metoo movement is front and center, and so is Title IX. If MSU wants to stay alive for the long haul, they will self sanction, and if they don't the NCAA will make an example of them. They are the perfect school for this, since they have national recognition, but their absence (in football at least) will not be a problem for the NCAA football brand. I bet they lose bowl eligibility at least.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
You just got to look at those MSU bball teams from the mid-2000's . There was all kind of sick reports of what those dirtbag basketball players would do at parties , starting with Paul Davis.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
Izzo and Dantonio will both be fired over this.
January 26th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
January 26th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Many of the cases involving football and basketball cited in this article led to no charges being filed by the alleged victims. That, alone, probably makes for sufficient "air cover" in the minds of many people who would be responsible for the decision whether or not to retain Izzo and Dantonio.
January 26th, 2018 at 2:04 PM ^
With both men in their 60s, I wonder if they don't just "retire" if it looks bad.
January 26th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
Those two men, like it or not, are huge money-makers for the university. I'll believe it when I see it
January 26th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
called the Wolf to help them out of this mess. They will be fine...
January 26th, 2018 at 5:50 PM ^
Has it ever bothered anyone that hes at a dinner party at 7 am ?
January 26th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
January 26th, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
Softie, which I tend to be.
Of course it goes without saying, feel totally horrible for the victims. They are the #1 focus in all this.
I also feel bad for all the student athletes that went to a university they THOUGHT they believed in and are still doing positive things for their school. They got the rug pulled out from under them and will probably have to look elsewhere to finish their education/athletics because of a system that's completely broken, top to bottom.
January 26th, 2018 at 2:09 PM ^
I felt bad when innocent athletes were forced to tranfer or live under sanctions at PSU when they had never done anything wrong themselves.
But sometimes when Mommy & Daddy got to jail, their innocent kids pay a price as well.
All the more reason to be angry at those that failed in their duties, and at least most students will have transfer options depending on how all of this shakes out.
January 26th, 2018 at 2:10 PM ^
And they'll have an option to transfer and likely play immediately.
But damn, some of these guys and girls grew up dreaming that they'd represent MSU. It's horrible for them.
