Exit Dan Enos?
earlier there was a report that saban was trying to poach dan enos that sam webb quickly dismissed with a "he's not going anywhere." yet 15 minutes ago he changed his tune and now says the story is legit. he's not saying enos is gone, but that his departure is a real possibility.

Bama just hired Karl Scott, so hopefully that position is now filled,
January 25th, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
Scott coaches defensive backs and the hire was made a week ago. Has nothing to do with Enos.

the roles of Hamilton and Drevno, all hiring for the offensive side of the ball will be tenuous. Why should Enos or any other recently hired offense assistant stick around if Drevno and Hamilton still have the ultimate authority. If they stay and the offense craters as it did in 2017 the stench will be on them as well.
Under those circumstances, the Alabama job is infinitely better.

Are we incredibly unlucky or is there something to all the staff movement? Seems like we've got an abnormally high rate of turnover on top of a lot of guys seeming to back out last second for a different job.

I imagine it's pretty typicall for in-demand coaches.
I've been drinking, though.

I don't think that's an unusual number and it sounds like both were give a gentle push. Teams came after Brown and Partridge and we kept them. We haven't lost anyone else yet.
Losing Enos right away would be a bit unusual. It's hard to look at Warriner the same way. He's got an analyst position. That was clearly temporary until a good job opened up here or elsewhere.
January 25th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
Brian Smith did not get a push out. He was offered a DC position at a D1 school - a good promotion. Stop pushing the stoopid meme that he was pushed out.

We definitely have enough money, and stand to gain enough money by improving our team, that paying coordinators a buy-out is well down the list of give-a-fuck.
(Not to say it would definitely improve our team, but if hiring a coach has the chance to improve your team by a couple wins or even enough to be a contender, your program is certainly much better off monetarily than the amount it lost in paying a buy-out).

January 25th, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
Exactly. Notre Dame made a terrible decision by giving Charlie Weis his astronomical buy-out, but they did NOT make a mistake by firing him and paying it.
January 25th, 2018 at 5:18 PM ^
not clearly upgrading it. I know a lot of fans seem to think Drevno and Pep are bumbling fools and are to blame for this.season's disappointment. I doubt Harbaugh shares those feelings. He knows both well and gave those long term deals just a year ago. Getting better performances out of them and the rest of his staff is one of the biggest parts of his job. I expect it to happen.
January 25th, 2018 at 5:24 PM ^
I don't.
January 25th, 2018 at 5:29 PM ^
I don't either. When all three QB's look like shit and the OL doesn't get any better from game 1 to game 13 and you throw for the fewest amount of passing TD's in 40 years and your offense ranks #105 in the country that's coaching.
January 25th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
Yep. You had a returning starter who was one of the better QBs in the Big Ten a year ago, a 5th year senior, and a highly touted RS freshman, not to mention a gaggle of talented receivers and tight ends. Yet all we could do was produce 9 passing TDs in 13 games. The talent was there, the coaching was not.
January 25th, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
Yeah, it's amazing Michigan had the #105 total offense in the country considering:
QB: Wilton Speight (UA All American), Brandon Peters (Army AA)
RB: Kareem Walker (UA AA)
LT: Mason Cole (Army AA)
LG: Ben Bredeson (UA AA)
C: Pat Kugler (UA AA), Ceasr Ruiz (UA AA)
RG: Michael Onwenu (Army AA)
WR: Kekoa Crawford (Army AA), Eddie McDoom (UA AA), DPJ (Army AA), Tarik Black (Army AA), Oliver Martin (Army AA)
Outside of TE and RT, UM has a HS All American at every position on offense on its roster.

Damn dude. I'm standing on the cliffs edge and you just keep pushing.
January 30th, 2018 at 12:32 AM ^
To be fair, most had Speight lower than ESPN did, but the UA game bases their invitations mostly on the ESPN rankings.

Sure, but then we're not talking about money, we're talking about whether the staff needs to be shaken up at all. The money makes no difference. If it were absolutely free but Harbaugh felt they were the best coaches for the program, he'd still keep them in that case. Original poster said they wouldn't be fired because of their buy-outs.

put up the money for the football team to go to Italy last year, I don't think it should be too hard to come up with the money needed for the buyouts.

It'd be really easy for Harbaugh to make sure that Enos and Warriner know that Pep and Drev will be released at 9:00am on Thursday, February 8th, and they will take Pep and Drev's current roles, respectively. Then it comes down to whether they both trust Jim's word.
January 25th, 2018 at 6:56 PM ^
Because Drevno or Pep is retained I would like an apology from Drevno.
January 25th, 2018 at 4:50 PM ^
I'd be upset . . . except that I still don't know exactly what Dan Enos was hired to do here.

That the total dufus James Franklin could figure out how to make an effective OC hire that turned around his previously pathetic offense, while the great offensive genius Jim Harbaugh can't . . . is both appalling and humiliating.
