and not just because he personally thought Michigan and Tennessee were the best college football environments he visited, in that order.

He was genuine, had a fantastic voice, and (unheard of today), he understood the value and power of some silence.

He also lived a life. He grew up on a farm in Georgia, and served in the Marines, in addition to this time in radio. Most broadcasters today go from high school in suburbia to college to a microphone. You're right - the radio guys really knew how to paint a picture.

Man, this is right up there for me with Bo's passing. I can't think of my childhood watching Michigan games without Keith's voice in my head. I always held out hope he might come back and call just one...more...game

The thing with Jackson, Ufer, Ernie is that you knew at the time that you where listening to greatness I can't say that about anyone that is currently on today

I really miss guys like Jackson on the air, who talked about the game in front of him, and did it with genuine appreciation and wonder, instead of artificial yelling and conducting a football talk show that happened to take place in the press box of some random game.

Obviously correct me if I'm wrong. 31 of them in Ann Arbor. 12 games vs Ohio State (CBS had the rights to this game for awhile, so obviously Jackson didn't call it). 7 games vs Notre Dame. 6 Rose Bowls.

Jackson's call of The Punt Return is as iconic as the play itself, and yet, other than the "Hello Heisman" tag at the end, he said almost nothing as the play unfolded, as if knowing the moment was too special to step on. With all his wonderful 'Jacksonisms', maybe his greatest gift (and his gift to us) was just letting the play on the field do the talking.
Football at its most sublime involves Michigan, Ohio State, and Keith Jackson.

The moment where Desmond slips the first wave and he says "Would you look at that?" like he's just as surprised, stunned, amused as all of us are...then just the "Gooodbye..." lingering there as Des rolls to the end zone. It's perfect.
