Along with Beckmann, Bruce…

Along with Beckmann: Bruce Martyn, Dave Strater/Mickey Redmond, Ernie Harwell/Paul Carey, George Kell/Al Kaline, Mark Champion, and George Blaha were the voices of my youth.  We were very lucky in Michigan to have these guys.

Unfortunately, I was too young to hear Ufer.

Harbaugh and Koselar.

Harbaugh and Koselar.

Or a porn star.

Or a porn star.

He also lived a life.  He

He also lived a life.  He grew up on a farm in Georgia, and served in the Marines, in addition to this time in radio.  Most broadcasters today go from high school in suburbia to college to a microphone.  You're right - the radio guys really knew how to paint a picture.

Jackson's call of The Punt

Jackson's call of The Punt Return is as iconic as the play itself, and yet, other than the "Hello Heisman" tag at the end, he said almost nothing as the play unfolded, as if knowing the moment was too special to step on.  With all his wonderful 'Jacksonisms', maybe his greatest gift (and his gift to us) was just letting the play on the field do the talking.

Football at its most sublime involves Michigan, Ohio State, and Keith Jackson.

These three short paragraphs

These three short paragraphs summed up the my feelings better than a book-full ever could.

Good call.  Enberg and Olsen

Good call.  Enberg and Olsen were fantastic.  Also liked Enberg/Trumpy.

He was one of the voices of

He was one of the voices of my youth.  What a great feeling it was to tune into a big game and hear that Enberg, Jackson, or Summerall were on the call.  Enberg was a pro, and his kind is sorely missed.

Was Nick Perry ever a commit?

Was Nick Perry ever a commit?  He was out of Detroit Mackenzie and recorded something like 30 sacks as a senior.  Ended up going to USC and is now staring for the Packers.  IIRC, it came down to M and USC.

Edit: beat to the punch by previous poster.

Yup.  IIRC, it was at

Yup.  IIRC, it was at halftime.  We heard a sudden roar from the crowd and saw this dude running the length of the field.  He started to strike Dez's Heisman pose in the north end zone and was rushed by security and wrapped up in a blanket.  I was in the student section.

If it were me, I'd choose

If it were me, I'd choose Grand Rapids, and probably EGR in particular.  EGR has outstanding schools, well maintained, character-filled older homes, and a lovely "downtown" in Gaslight Village.  It is adjacent to Eastown, Cherry Hill, and downtown GR, yet is very quiet and peaceful.  With close proximity to some of the very best beaches in the state (Grand Haven, Holland, Pere Marquette), a vibrant downtown (GR), and a low cost of living, the area is hard to beat.

And would be in the Hall

And would be in the Hall already had he played for NY or Boston.

Bummed about Trammel.  My all

Bummed about Trammel.  My all favorite all-time baseball player.  Great player, and pure class.

The thing I hate most about

The thing I hate most about M&M is the corporate-speak.  You will never hear anything controversial from either of them because the World Wide Leader wants safe, vanilla, non-offensive content.  Twenty four hours of it, every day.

Cowherd, FTW.

Cowherd, FTW.

One thing the former regime

One thing the former regime can't be accused of is bad recruiting.  Could be multiple reasons why he wasn't offered.  That said, it'll be nice to have Durkin's Florida ties, for sure.  I hear there are a couple pretty good players down there.

We landed on the MOON!!!

We landed on the MOON!!!

Not so sure that Weber is

Not so sure that Weber is solid to OSU.

This came from Rivals two days ago (not $):

"Rivals100 running back Mike Weber of Detroit Cass Tech has only been committed to Ohio State for a few weeks, but is already thinking of taking a look at some other schools."

Alabama has offered, and he is considering taking an official, apparently.

Those who pour will be

Those who pour will be champions.

First time I've ever heard of

First time I've ever heard of being fucked with no chick.

Yeah, I'm thinking this is

Yeah, I'm thinking this is the reason he's dropping out.  Miles is a successful coach, and doesn't want to be the chick who sits around waiting to be asked to the prom only after the hot girl says no.

You're right - there will be

You're right - there will be a ton of pissed off people if it doesn't happen, but waiting on Harbaugh is worth the risk.

Mike and Mike.  Reason #267

Mike and Mike.  Reason #267 why I've given up on ESPN.  They can't name more than two or three players on the entire roster.

I'd rather take a calculated

I'd rather take a calculated risk in hiring a 39 year old assistant than brining in Miles, who's mostly a known quantity but is in the twilight of his career, with "issues".  I can't take these coaching changes every 3-4 years.

Yeah, I do.

Yeah, I do.

Yeah, unfortunately.

Yeah, unfortunately.  Mattison left UM for Notre Dame, so why not OSU?

Love Mattison, and hope he somehow stays with the new regime.

That don't make you a bad

That don't make you a bad person...

I see Mone starting at DT.

I see Mone starting at DT.  Also see Poggi getting significant time.

With Peppers and Morgan coming back, the defense should be even better next yr.

As a Norton Shores resident,

As a Norton Shores resident, I know how enticing Jackson looks.  He's got great size, a great arm, and Mona Shores has been one of the most dominating high school teams in the state this year mostly because of him.  It's easy to drink the kool-aid with the hometown kid, but I don't see him making the leap from MAC calibre schools to Michigan.

Shores will play FH Harrison next week, so it'll be interesting to see how he does against an east side power.  He's committed to Buffalo right now, but if he keeps playing the was he has, I can see more offers coming his way.

Yeah, you are way off.  GR is

Yeah, you are way off.  GR is a vibrant and diverse community.

Jon Vaughn

Jon Vaughn.  Gained around 1400 yards with 6 YPC and was named Big Ten Player of the Year as a RS sophomore.  He was on the cusp of becoming a truly great Michigan RB when he bolted to the NFL.

Muskegon's own Bennie O.

Muskegon's own Bennie O.

Mike Wallace.

Mike Wallace.

One of the reasons I sought

One of the reasons I sought out and found this site was due to my mounting frustration with ESPN, and specifically with "Entertainment Tonight for Sports" (I think they still call it Sportcenter, though).  I agree with Doc - the network will artificially create a firestorm, feed the firestorm for days, if not weeks, and then instantly drop the story as soon as a hotter storm is created.  The Tebow stuff was a real embarassment.

I do still enjoy PTI very much, and the 30 for 30 series is almost as good as what HBO Sports produces.  I don't bother with much else.

I was hoping that he was

I was hoping that he was going to Michigan University.  Damn.

Yeah, that pretty much sums

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Bad enough to drive like an

Bad enough to drive like an idiot, but these people are taking chances with other peoples' lives.

I wouldn't be able to turn my I wouldn't be able to turn my radio off fast enough if I heard Gus Johnson calling a Michigan game.
Champion is a wonderful play Champion is a wonderful play by play guy, and already has chemistry with Brandy. Seems like a no-brainer.
I never ended up attending

I never ended up attending Michigan, but I can remember exactly when I became a fan:

I had a buddy in the sixth grade back in the late seventies, and I used to go over to his house often.  He and his family were huge Notre Dame fans, and I remember them talking all kinds of shit about how ND was going to detroy Michigan all that game week.  Since I was just a kid and had no allegience to any university, I considered jumping on the ND bandwagon.  But then I thought "Wait a minute... I'm not Irish, I'm not Catholic, I don't live in Indiana, and that blue team represents my beloved state of Michigan.  Screw Notre Dame!"  I've been a lifelong Michigan fan ever since.

And I refuse to spend one cent at Walmart.

Lewan suffered from

Lewan suffered from lackluster play from the interior.  Two negative yard rushing games against MSU and Nebraska definitely hurt.

With his recent "health"

With his recent "health" issues, he better be careful eating that crap.

Will miss Frank.  Now get

Will miss Frank.  Now get Mark Champion.

OSU offense could not be

OSU offense could not be stopped.  It was the right call.  Very proud of how they played today.

My only concern with Hoke is

My only concern with Hoke is that he will stick with  Borges out of loyalty and/or stubborness.  The offense plays in a ten yard box, and the players seem lost.  I still support Hoke, but unless there's a change with the OC he's doomed.

The Michigan and Notre Dame

The Michigan and Notre Dame uniforms define college football, but I also really like the Clemson, LSU, and Auburn uniforms.

The best ever.  By a mile.

The best ever.  By a mile.  Oh, what I wouldn't give to hear Keith call one more Michigan/OSU game from the Big House.

Harbaugh.  Guaranteed victory

Harbaugh.  Guaranteed victory over OSU and delivered.

Amen.

Amen.
