Michigan ranked 19th in AP Poll, 18th in coaches
November 12th, 2017 at 2:19 PM ^
Wisky 5 in the other poll I saw.
November 12th, 2017 at 2:20 PM ^
but why keep ND in the top 10 when they just lost 41-8? I think a lot of teams in the 10-20 range could beat them too
November 12th, 2017 at 2:34 PM ^
Because their only other loss was a heroic one-point defeat to a Georgia team that is dominant and undefea . . . er, I don't know, actually.
November 12th, 2017 at 6:11 PM ^
They should give their coach a 10 year contract extension for such an inspiring loss.
HA! Just kidding.
No program would ever be moronic enough to do something that stupid.
November 12th, 2017 at 4:26 PM ^
Certainly not USC who they curb stomped by a similarly lopsided score. PSU who hasn't beaten a team that is currently ranked, and thus should possibly be ranked behind MSU? UCF who not only hasn't beaten a team that is currently ranked but hasn't even played one? WSU who lost even worse to Cal?
ND is where they should be. Not many teams without a really bad performance or two this year. They've destroyed two teams that are currently ranked which is something no one behind them can claim.

November 13th, 2017 at 1:35 AM ^
and while we're making corrections, ND actually destroyed (won by 20+) THREE currently ranked teams now that NC State is also ranked (in addition to USC and MSU).
So, again, does anyone think PSU which lost to a team that was destroyed by ND, should be ranked ahead of ND?
No one behind them has an argument to be ahead of them.

Did anyone watch ol' Purplehead Sat night? C'mon, man!

This is the first time all year that our ranking has felt about right to me.

November 12th, 2017 at 2:35 PM ^
There is absolutely zero justification for ranking OSU ahead of ND or USC.
November 12th, 2017 at 2:40 PM ^
What has USC done? Best win Arizona at home?
November 12th, 2017 at 2:51 PM ^
They also destroyed Stanford at home, and they didn't lose by 30 to Iowa. Their wins and losses are both better than OSU's.
November 12th, 2017 at 4:28 PM ^
by 35 (!!!) to ND. A team you also purport to be overrated.
Why would USC get a pass for that and OSU doesn't get a pass for Iowa? Nearly equally terrible performances. And then OSU just beat a ranked team 48-3. 48-3. That's better than USC's win over Stanford. OSU's win over PSU is much better than USC's win over....whoever the second best team is that they've beaten. OSU deserves to be ranked ahead of USC.
November 12th, 2017 at 5:17 PM ^
Uh, maybe because ND is a top ten team and Iowa is unranked? This isn't difficult.
November 12th, 2017 at 8:46 PM ^
I would easily take OSU on a neutral field vs. USC. You can't rank a team based off one outcome.

- Bama
- Miami/Clemson winner
- Okla
- Wiscy
- ND (Should be rejected, but there's not a lot of great teams out there)
- USC/Wash St/Washington (could easily be rejected)
IME, the only way a conference gets two in is if the other swim lane winners can be rejected as "No way a Top 4 team" (e.g. a big, multi-loss conf champ game underdog pulls a one-game upset)
Now, I expect Michigan to knock Wisky & OSU out of playoff consideration.
Take that, Zillies!
November 12th, 2017 at 4:22 PM ^
could/should be Wisky/East winner (if only 2 losses).
And your 1 line still has to be Bama/UGA winner.
A two-loss Big Ten champ would certainly get in over a two loss PAC12 champ and almost certainly get in over ND. The only other way the Big Ten champ doesn't get in is if the ACC or SEC loser has one loss and gets in as the second team from that respective conference.
November 12th, 2017 at 10:14 PM ^
Then Alabama shouldn't be there either. Their resume sucks in comparison too.

The converse to an unranked 8-2 Michigan ("who hasn't beaten anyone") is a 9-2 Michigan that vanquished Top 5ish Wisconsin, and now joins the ranks of the two-loss teams in the rankings, probably in the mid-to-upper teens.
November 13th, 2017 at 9:53 AM ^
We only moved up slightly in the AP and coaches poll. I could see us 25-20.
November 12th, 2017 at 2:43 PM ^
I'm sure we will be ranked if for no other reason than the networks/gameday will want that game to be a matchup of ranked teams. Probably somewhere in the 20s.
November 12th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
Does the 25th spot mean anything?

November 12th, 2017 at 6:25 PM ^
The committee has shown that its rankings are not nearly as path-dependent as the AP & Coaches polls (before they started to ape the committee's rankings with a week lag).
We're not in the committee's rankings because we don't have a good win. If we beat Wiscy, that gets fixed and we likely get placed in the neighborhood of the current two-loss teams in the rankings, say mid-to-high teens. If we follow up with a win over OSU, the committee likely ranks us high enough to go to a NY6 bowl. (The non-playoff bowls are a business.)

Looks about right. I just want to be ranked in the CFP so we appear in the top 25 ticker again. I hate when we're out.
November 12th, 2017 at 2:37 PM ^
There's about 3 or 4 real top 10 teams and everyone else is just a jumbled pile of poo. Voters are probably just as confused as the rest of us as to where to slot this big bunch of parody.

Isn't it more like Alabama, and then about 6 or 8 or 10 teams that can be pretty good one game, and a pile of poo the next?
November 12th, 2017 at 2:38 PM ^
What I'm gathering from this is that Michigan will somehow drop in the CFP standings without being ranked the previous week.
November 12th, 2017 at 2:40 PM ^
Seems about right.
And ND is ranked in the top 10 because they're ND. Apparently there are a few people out there who support the football squad from South Bend. Misguided fools.

I was like "Bama's reputation is so good now that just hanging with them is basically recommending you for better things in the eyes of the media".
It also means Bama is literally the only team that can easily lose a game going forward and still probably be in the CFP.
November 12th, 2017 at 2:45 PM ^
but happy to see MSU behind us, in rankings and overall W-L record.

that bed pooping has prevented us from being there in the CFP mix. Bed pooping happens but man we're close.

LINK - AP Poll Tracker with who voted and where they voted
There were still seven voters who did not have us ranked, but a decent spread with one vote as high as #15 and another four at #16 on the high end. 11 voters went with #19.
