about the refs week in, week out gets old, and can always be called grousing. But let's scrutinize the work these guys do, understand the pressures they're under, evaluate their performance. And expose poor calls more rigorously and openly.

And name names. Who the official/crew was, what teams were involved, clips of the actual play/resulting call or non call.
Not with homer glasses, but just as a public clearinghouse for Big Ten officiating.
And then also maybe a feature of one or two major calls in other conferences--either good or bad--that were majorly impactful for those games that week.
But alas, I don't know that we could find somebody with: A) That much time on their hands; B) That much officiating/rulebook knowledge; and C) Wouldn't do it with rank homerism creating biased analysis.
But a guy can dream.

pretty reasonable for COLLEGE games, but when he's doing NFL games he seems to protect the refs too. Pereira is always awful. I still don't think it makes much sense to have those guys in the booth when most fans are familiar with the rules, its usually the idiot commentators who get confused.

for the referees?
November 5th, 2017 at 8:39 AM ^
If the rule says he does, I'm sure Michigan will send in the tape to the BIG to appeal. What he did was questionable for a penalty let alone an ejection and missed game time.

Ejection!!!!

No, but according to Spencer Tillman, Tyree Kinnel should be sent to guantanamo bay for pushing a player while in play.

Tillman is just aweful.
November 5th, 2017 at 11:20 AM ^
He is beyond awful.
Tillman sounds like the biggest idiot in the world. He does a weely piece down here on the local sports radio show in the morning. It's beyond moronic, yet they act like he's an oracle because he tries to intellectualize what he says. What an embarrassment. Is this really the best Fox can do?

It was the lightest little shove too. He barely nudged him. It's not like he almost knocked him down.

push an official then hold Metellus face mask for about 3 seconds before Metulls pushed him back. Agree Metellus should not have got involved, but ejection unwarranted, particularly in context of 73 who went off completely raging and looney.

When he dropped the flag on Croft's intentional grounding, I almost shit myself. I couldn't believe Capron was capable of making a call that went against the other team. Although it was such an obvious call, he really didn't have any other choice.

Unless Harbaugh wants to get jobbed again he needs to say something publically this week about those officials and demand they never be assaigned another Michigan game. If not be prepared to see them for both Wisconsin and OSU this year cause Delany definitely wants to see both those teams win and there's no better way to make sure it happens than to give them those games.
Tim Donaghy, noted crooked NBA ref, said when the NBA wanted a game to go a particular way they didnt have to "tell" anybody what to do - they just made sure teams of offiials were assaigned to the game who had easilty identifiied bias going in. Dont want the home team to win - assaign Joey Crawford. They knew (just like the B1G knows) who is most likely to call a game one way or the other going in - they dont have to be instructed to do anything.
Coming off a win, an easy win, is the perfect time to go public with this. Last year it was immediately dismissed as sour grapes - would be harder to dismiss the complaints this time. Playing nice with the officials this year is NOT working Harbaugh - they hate you and they hate Michigan and trying to appease them will work just as well for you as it did Neville Chamberlan.

Give them all walking canes and fire their sorry asses before they screw up more games, which they will unless terminated.
I am confident Delany will do his job. /s

If the refs want to even it up because they can't locate their balls, fine. Eject Minnesota's #73 and give us an offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalty you cowards
To not only even it up but also eject Metellus for doing nothing but getting back in the dude's face is plain insanity. Those refs have no idea what's going on, I guess elected not to review it, and took the 'easy way out' by just making it even because they're spineless and stupid

That's what bullshit. #73 for Minnesota can throw several punches and grab our guys facemasks, but get the same punishment that Metellus got just for getting in his face without even hitting him.

It was a question.
It's surprising to me, because I'm not sure I have seen it happen before (not that I'm a football encyclopedia or anything) and players/ coaches have to have say horrible stuff to refs during almost every game.

provocative language, they'd be filing a lot of ejection reports every week. Not like the school can't challenge this ejection. But Harbaugh, who was fined $10,000 a year ago for his comments related to this crew's performance in Columbus, probably won't question this one.
Michigan managed to avoid this crew all season, but then was forced to deal with it last night and got what everyone should have expected, another game of inconsistent, borderline calls.
November 5th, 2017 at 1:24 PM ^
I know the Big 10 isn't the only conference with bad officiating, but at least half of the crews are terrible and I suspect there is an anti-Harbaugh, anti-Michigan bias that exists. Why can't officials at least be from out of the states involved in a game? If they live in Ohio or graduated from an Ohio university, maybe they shouldn't officiate that school's or its rival's games. I know bias is impossible to eliminate, but it could be mitigated, not to mention making refereeing more lucrative and better trained. It's so God awful, especially with today's technology.
