I really hope we don't have a week of a million posts about refs again. Looked like good timing. That play isn't why we lost.
But what the hell was that screen pass to DeVeon? We needed like 50 yards in 30 seconds and you're throwing it to our slowest back 4 yards behind the line?
December 31st, 2016 at 12:22 AM ^
The inept offensive performance really was apparent in this game as well. The screen to DeVeon, the slow developing draw, the numerous power pitches....putting Smith out at receiver.
I am not sure why you do not move to putting Speight back in shotgun earlier when it was absolutely apparent that the interior of the line was just being abused. I also think Speight was still hurt much more than was given, but putting him into under center pass plays and just sticking with Smith over and over and over just made no sense again.
With multiple D backs out, the lack of really making an effort to go deep was also mind numbing.

Where was the reverse to counter their aggressive flow to the ball on the sweep in the second half?
December 31st, 2016 at 10:17 AM ^
He was the only effective runner in the first half then disappeared in favor of the guy who was doing nothing (though mostly due to bad line play)

harbaugh is a choker and then makes excuses.
Excuses for not winning it all with Luck
Excuses for losing the SB to his brother.
Excuses for choking agaisnt tOSU.
Losers make excuses and Harbaugh is a proven loser in meaningful games.

You know what I think would have worked on that 4th and 10 instead? A slow developing toss play to Smith. Wonder why we kept that in the bag on the last drive.

was hoping i would see that...after 13 games it's bound to work

How about on first down on the 1 yard line we just give it to Khalid instead of Deveon?
December 30th, 2016 at 11:55 PM ^
Going for 2 in the 3rd quarter was a bad decision.

True.
Also, it was a good idea at the time anyway. It would have put us down 3 near the end of the 3rd in a game where it looks like our only hope is to scrounge up enough offense to get a couple more FGs while our defense digs in.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:06 AM ^
Why? Our offense hadn't done jack shit until then and all we had done was kick field goals. Of all the stupid things that were called tonight that wasn't one of them.

Offense has a better chance to score with a 1:10 left than :36.

Right... and our coaches CLEARLY knew that we weren't going to get a first down, so it was a moot point, right?
It was shitty clock management without a doubt. FSU helped us by calling a TO with 14 left on the play clock, or it would have been worse. Harbaugh has to get his shit together on clock management, period. He's a great football coach, but apparently is not adept at making good decisions with the clock.
Between this and the end of the OSU game, it is not even debatable at this point. He has Les Miles running clock logic disorder.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:02 PM ^
Maybe Jim Caldwell could help. He's great at clock management.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:49 AM ^
darboh did drop the first pass of the drive, which would have been about a 12 yd gain and a first down.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:02 AM ^
He did the same thing at the end of the Ohio State game. I guess he hates calling timeouts to stop the clock on defense.
Really dumb.

1) Harbaugh is a bit overrated in his game management. This is a senior laden team with tons of talent. They just lost their 3rd game out of 4 on the road. He made poor decisions in each game which cost the team.
2) Drevno is way overrated as an OC. He needs to be replaced.
3) This team lacks speed at RB and the WRs were disappointing all season.
4) Wilton is not consistently accurate. QB competition must be open for next year. If Peters is better, then he should play.
5) This OL was bad and it probably will not be better next season.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:04 AM ^
I think you're wrong about the WRs. They made some pretty damn good plays this season. Agree with the rest.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:26 AM ^
Evans also has plenty of speed, just needed more touches.
December 31st, 2016 at 12:50 AM ^
After seeing him on that second to last drive, why the HELL did it take them that long to put him in when the run game was getting NOTHING for the whole night up until that point????

WR's made some plays, but they flat out cost us wins with their drops. Definitely the OSU game, and probably Iowa. Maybe even FSU, as we could have gotten into field goal range with a kicker that is automatic. Our losses can easily be traced to late game flat out drops. Can't have that.
December 31st, 2016 at 7:25 AM ^
Not enough is said about Kenny Allen handling all of the kicking / punting duties, and doing it all very well. This after calls for his immediate replacement as a kicker 10 games ago. This after the received wisdom stated that no man could handle both punting and place kicking and do so with competence. It just wasn't possible. And yet that's exactly what KA has done.
An unsung hero at Michigan, Kenny Allen will remain so in the NFL.

The Iowa game was plain bad. Chesson's whole season was a massive disappointment, considering how great he looked at the end of last year - he had something like 500 yards and 3 tds. A bit of that is on Speight / chemistry issues, but I watched every game and he very frequently just wasn't getting open. Maybe it was injury-recovery, but he just didn't have a good year.
Darboh had some big catches, but he had plenty of chances to make plays and just didn't, e.g., the 1st quarter non-catch that he couldn't focus on getting a foot in because he bobbled the ball when he didn't cleanly catch the ball at the highpoint.
I'm worried about a lot of position groups matching this year's production next year (e.g., CB, DL, even our soon to be very young OL), but our young WRS have a great chance of matching, if not improving, over this year.

could have been the biggest loss the past few games
December 31st, 2016 at 7:31 AM ^
I think it is beyond obvious that Tim Drevno is not the answer as an OL coach. It's that or Michigan has relatively no talent on the OL and even less behind the starters.
December 31st, 2016 at 11:20 AM ^
There was one edge play where I startled my son yelling, "BLOCK SOMEONE! ANYONE!", when Braden wandered down the field, leaving any FSU player untouched, letting FSU make a one one tackle.
December 31st, 2016 at 1:09 PM ^
double teamed one DT and our LG (Bredeson?) backed up, staring at empty space to the left, while the other FSU DT was left uncovered, with a clear path for a sack.
Don't know if that was a freshman mistake or bad coaching preparation, but I'm not a fan of Drevno - either as an OL coach or OC gameplanner.
Watching the Louisville OL getting manhandled by LSU, maybe we could trade Drevno to Petrino for a bag of wrecked motorcycle spare parts and a used neck brace ;o)

Not a good OC IMO
