Finishing out the recruiting class
1. WR-DPJ
2. WR-Black
3. WR- Collins
4. OL- Banks
5. OL- Wilson
6. OL- Ruiz
7. DT- Retmaeir
8. DT- Solomon
9. DE- Irving-Bey
10. LB- Singleton
11. LB- Anthony
12. CB- Thomas
Although it's not everyone on the wish list, it would be an outstanding finish. Notable misses are WR Martin, RB Harris, OL Slaton, OL Leatherwood, OL Filiaga, DT Tufele, LB Gay, CB Holmes.
What are your thoughts on who we finish up with?

What are the odds that every current commit remains committed and signs? Probably near zero percent. That's not meant to be a criticism or anything, but given the nature of it, I would be shocked if we didn't see a single decommit.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Maybe I wasn't plugged in well enough, but I had barely even heard of Asiasi before January. Also Spanellis, and I don't think Khaleke Hudson was talked about much until very late. I'm sure there are others.

Maybe he didn't get mentioned too much around here, but I remember he was often brought up as a package deal with Boss Tagaloa. He was thought less likely to leave CA.
There were some other guys we definitly got in on late. Several because of hiring Don Brown. Spanellis because we were scrambling after a late decommit. Hopefully we won't be dealing those kind of issues this time. Eubanks was the only one that really came from out of nowhere, to me at least.

Asiasi was definitely the result of a strong late push.

those two were more the product of getting brown if i recall correctly so it makes sense they pooped into the class really late
December 7th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
Four seems kind of light and we haven't added a LB that could serve as a quasi-DB either.
December 7th, 2016 at 12:55 PM ^
Those events will probably get less frequent as we go along here. Last year was the first full recruiting year and they changed DCs; with static coordinators (because Harbaugh is at least 50 the OC) and a longer timeframe with which to court folks there is less necessity to go looking under rocks late in the process.
TE is one spot where I would not be surprised to see a random name pop up. There are a few popping up the secondary as Michigan appears to want 5 DBs. Other than that, nah.

I predict Brian is more of a punisher of the brown noser types. More of a tell it to me straight or GTFO.
December 7th, 2016 at 1:16 PM ^
To go along with this, we also probably land a few more big fish this cycle, which would decrease the need to pick up a last minute commit. Also, the OL/DL recruiting has been so prolific that we can miss on a few targets and still get the necessary numbers.

Brian thinks Drevno or Fisch may head elsewhwere.
December 7th, 2016 at 2:39 PM ^
That was the job people were afraid might lure Drevno away.

read it closely enough to know that Harbaugh called a really bad 4th quarter against OSU. :(

Our situation is stable this year, but there are many other situations at big-name programs that are not (though some jobs are starting to settle). It is also interesting to see the "second tier" or programs where the coach is still in place, but not for long (UCLA, Notre Dame, much of the SEC). Why can't the same argument for eleventh-hour prospects be made for this year, just that the instability is elsewhere instead of our own back yard? I can't recall a [recent] year with this much uncertainty at such big name programs, both at the head coaching and coordinator levels.

We didn't find Asiasi under a rock. He was the rock.

He is the rock that knocks.

I think Filiaga is more likely than Banks. A major coup would be to get RB Harris and DT Solomon. Will be disappointing if we get neither.

I guess it depends on the definition of disappointing--since the odds are against us getting either Solomon or Harris, I wouldn't exactly be disappointed to not land either one. I'd be disapointed to not get DPJ, because I expect to get him.

Switch Banks with Filiaga and add Tufele and Najee

Which current rb commits would de-commit? Samuels and Dillon > Opens up 2 more spots...?
December 7th, 2016 at 12:58 PM ^
Originally I thought the answer to this question would be O'Maury Samuels, but now I think it would be Dillon. I think Dillon is a feature back whereas Samuels can still compliment a prototypical back very well. Dillon wouldn't have a chance behind Harris, barring injury. I think Dillon has been checking out BC as a safety valve in case we do get Harris. I think Dillon is very good, Harris is just out of this world, and Samuels' abilities clash less with Harris than Dilon's do.

I really like Dillon and hope he stays in the class. I was pretty sad the first time I heard that he may bounce depending on how things work out.

Apparently Tyrone Wheatley is going in home with Kurt Taylor today, so I'm hoping he sticks, if only because he seems like a hard worker and great kid who loves Michigan.
