Jourdan comments on OSU coach rhetoric re: Peppers
November 21st, 2016 at 3:59 PM ^
"Compare the numbers of our running back against their linebacker!"
Ok. How many TFL's does Curtis have again? Any INT's? Sacks?
November 21st, 2016 at 4:01 PM ^
Samuel has as many INTs as Peppers
November 21st, 2016 at 4:13 PM ^
truth. I'll eat that one. Change it to PBU's since he's got one of those. Way to totally steal my thunder, man.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:22 PM ^
Nobody's happy about it
November 21st, 2016 at 5:11 PM ^
That's about as relevant as rushing yards by a receiver.

Peppers also has very few fumble recoveries and forced fumbles.
Peppers is a very good player, but the lack of turnovers is a huge check on his otherwise impressive resume.

Huge? Okay Quattro troll...
November 21st, 2016 at 6:56 PM ^
Are you even a Michigan fan?
Based on your comments after games, I have to ask.
November 21st, 2016 at 7:14 PM ^
It depends on your opinion of a turnover. I have seen Peppers shut down a 3rd down play with a great individual effort and force a team to punt. That is the equivalent of a turnover in my book. Other athletes couldn't make those plays. They don't show up on the stat sheet but just as important to the game.
November 22nd, 2016 at 10:37 AM ^
A turnover is statistic. It has a definition. There is no "opinion" of what a turnover is.
November 21st, 2016 at 5:21 PM ^
Peppers is our edge destroyer, QB spy, blitz demon. He rarely drops into coverage. It's not surprising for a LB to have no interceptions
November 21st, 2016 at 5:39 PM ^
I wasn't making any commentary on it, just stating the fact
November 21st, 2016 at 5:47 PM ^
Particularly one with Peppers speed and athleticism. Frankly, this is his biggest weakness when it comes to the draft. Average coverage skills and a lack of turnovers to his credit.

Dude, just shutup. Average coverage skills. He can probably lock down 99% of the receivers in college football. His fault is that he watches the backfield and quarterback too much when he was at nickle covering speedy little slot backs. You know why dippy? Probably because he had to. The defense depended on his big plays in the run game. You line him up outside with no other responsibility but to lock down the teams best receiver and that's all he has to do, he wins 8 to 9 times out of 10. Especially after he played there for a couple games. I'm right, you're wrong! He can run with anyone.
November 21st, 2016 at 6:14 PM ^
INTs for elite linebackers are rare. In fact, INTs for any linebacker are pretty rare. Rueben Foster and Raekwon McMillan, two of the top LBs in the upcoming draft don't have a single INT. In fact, there isn't a LB on Alabama's roster that has an INT. The only LB on Ohio State's roster (their 17 INTs are fifth most in the country) that has one is Jerome Baker.
So I wouldn't worry too much about a lack of INTs.

Also gotta love the shadow banned idiots talking about the guy who faked his girlfriend at ND.
He also didn't play offense or special teams. Whoops.
November 21st, 2016 at 7:38 PM ^
You're coming up on your Mgo anniversary. Maybe you should celebrate it by putting the crackpipe down and quitting cold turkey. He is a top 10 draft pick and his coverage skills are just fine, especially given his quickness and closing speed.

Peppers the running back makes me sad lately. He's at 3.5ypc over the last four games. I almost dread the Peppers package these days. Almost. Still holding out hope they have some good wrinkles saved for Ohio State.
Peppers the spacebacker and Peppers the punt returner, however, continue to make me very, very happy. Here's hoping all three click in Columbus and deliver a win and cement his place in NYC.

Do what Michigan did with Woodson back in the day. Have him run some patterns. Regardless of whether or not he's getting the ball, he'll likely draw a couple of players to him in coverage. Put him in at slot, or tailback. Pair him up with another shifty guy like Evans. Peppers taking the snap has become one of the most predictable plays we run.
November 21st, 2016 at 5:11 PM ^
Woodson. Too much speed to not use Peppers as a receiver, at least as a decoy. My bet is that Harbaugh has been saving more than a few wrinkles and this will be one of them - same for Urban Meyer though.
November 21st, 2016 at 10:22 PM ^
Not sure if he ran any other routes, but he did look pretty good out of the slot at one point. The throw went to the other side. JOKer threw it so fast I think it must have been a hot route.
November 21st, 2016 at 6:17 PM ^
Yeah, he needs to go in at tailback or slot with the actual QB in the game. Decoy him outside routes and playaction from the taiback. See how they react to it. Get him the ball in the flats against linebackers and get him into screen action playcalling. Sprinkle in the Doom and Chesson on the reverses. Throw the ball deep and beat their sugar cookie loving asses.
Edit: He needs to stay in for consecutive plays so he gets lost in the shuffle and is allowed to hammer them down play after play. Let him get going for once. Two years and we haven't got to watch him on an entire drive. Is this too much to ask?!?!
November 21st, 2016 at 4:23 PM ^
They need Peppers to at least hand the ball off on one of those zone reads. Frankly the whole read portion of that concept is just wasting time as Peppers keeps the ball every time regardless of the defenses position.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:55 PM ^
Well early on he was actually handing off too much. Lately they've been, I'm guessing, designed runs for Peppers. It hasn't been that way all-season, though.
November 21st, 2016 at 5:23 PM ^
Peppers was looking to pass on a 1st quarter sweep near the endzone against Indiana but it wasn't there. I was kind of hoping it would be a surprise against OSU but Peppers running it so often for not much success that it might as well have a big flashing sign over it now that says THIS IS A SETUP FOR A PASS PLAY. I dont expect OSU to be fooled
November 21st, 2016 at 5:52 PM ^
I just want to believe that the terrible production was all part of Harbaugh's master plan. For The Game, Peppers is going to be a combination of Brady, Woodson, and Weatley - accounting for 10 TDs. Urban won't even see it coming!
It's my head and I'll think how I want to.
November 21st, 2016 at 5:48 PM ^
Why does the pepper have to be red, man?
November 21st, 2016 at 8:57 PM ^

OSU receivers aren't even good. Our secondary is going to eat them alive. More time coaching, less time talking smack about 18-22 year olds.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:20 PM ^
Noah Brown has been one of the biggest mysteries of the season. After the way he started and broke out vs. Oklahoma, to how he's finished the season has been baffling. He had 134 yds and 5 TDs over his first three games, and has had 211 yds, and 2 TDs in the eight games since then.
Curtis Samuel on the other hand is very good. Don't kid yourself.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:26 PM ^
Samuel is a RB, not a WR. But, yes, he is very good.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:29 PM ^
He is more a WR than a RB.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:45 PM ^
Haven't really watched osu. Is he more of a slotback, do they motion him out wide a lot, does he just catch a lot of screens?
November 21st, 2016 at 4:51 PM ^
He motions all over. He will line up in the WR position and motion into the backfield. And he'll also line up in the backfield and motion into a WR position. He can release from both the outside and the slot. He runs all the downfield routes. We do not throw him a bunch of bubble screens, swings or flare outs. Maybe one or two a game, but most of his catches are downfield.

His 61 receptions are second in the Big Ten and he has the 4th most receiving yards in the Big Ten. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.

We (and by we I mean the team) need to ignore the trash coming out of Columbus. It's not well thought out or executed. Trying to understand them will make your head spin.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:01 PM ^
Their WR coach is a piece of shit, and his group isn't doing so well this year. Maybe he should be focusing on that, instead of trash talking college kids that are more mature than he is.
November 21st, 2016 at 4:02 PM ^
This is how he has made a name for himself, and it spreads to the kids he recruits - like the young man who tried to start a fight with JD at the opening.
Attitude reflect leadership, Coach.
