OT: Lions First Place in NFC North
Seeing as this blog caters to a lot of Michigan residents and that we might be in need of some positive football news...with Washington defeating Minnesota and Tennessee throttling Green Bay, the Lions are in first place of the NFC North (holding the tiebreaker over Minnesota).
After losing Calvin Johnson to retirement, I certainly did not think that the Lions would find themselves in this position ~half-way through the season. They obviously have some huge flaws and have lost several games that they had no business losing, but for now I will relish in their glory. I'm also aware that this post will likely jinx them for the remainder of the season.

2016 has already shown us that nothing is impossible apparently. The trend continues.

Even further, since about Thursday we've lost Leonard Cohen, Robert Vaughn and Leon Russell. This has been one of those years indeed, if you're following those among the famous that have died as well.
As for the Lions, nothing is impossible with a favorable schedule left ahead of them, but then possible and probable can be miles apart and typically have been with the Lions sadly.

The Lions have 7 left to play and 4 are at home. They have the home filed advantage against Minnesota and Green Bay, the two teams they need to beat for the division title. Games against the bears and jaguars should be wins. A late @Dallas game seems like the only real long shot at a victory. If they win out at home* and take one of the @NO/@NYG games, we're looking at 10 wins and a possible division title.
*as we found out last night, home field advantage IS WORTH approximately 40 points.

Dallas might not have anything to gain in that game. Might have the starters sitting.
Could be good!

First place in 2013 halfway through and had the easiest remaining schedule in division. Rodgers and Cutler were out almost half the season.
Still managed to be eliminated from playoff contention before the last game was even played.
Don't ever fall for it.

OL has gotten better and better.
Lions still have too many deficiencies on defense for me to really believe. I also think they need another TE.(Jake Butt please) and a deep threat at WR.

Please people do not fall for it.
Until they hand the trophy or whatever they do for a Division Title (Knowing the Lions they will likely be a parade), don't believe it.
Just wait for the parade then to celebrate.

Sort of a tallest midget thing, but when you're a long-suffering Lions' fan, it's about the best outcome you can root for.

Since I knew it would be a rare event. Summerall and Madden sounded depressed at the end of the game when they knew the Lions were going to beat the Cowboys.

During the Pittsburgh-Dallas game last night, the announcers were talking about Tony Romo and how good he has been. Then they segwayed into discussing his record in the playoffs, and noted that he has "only" won two playoff games out of eight. And I thinks to myself, "this one player has won DOUBLE the number playoff games that the Lions have won IN MY LIFETIME, and he's a disappointment."
BERGS, you shouldn't be worried about jinxing the Lions. They don't need your help to look foolish.
