Aubrey Solomon Decommits
So it turns out the Georgia 247 post was the one to read into.

As Solomon said in the note, Michigan will get a chance to bring him back into the fold when he takes an official visit this fall. In the interim, the coaches will continue to push hard for four-star UT DT Jay Tufele, and we may see some names that haven't been mentioned around here in a while—Popo Aumavae comes to mind—pop back up on the board.
EDIT: 247 has an article up on Solomon's decommitment, and, well...
"A day or two ago, they sent my mom a card thanking us for going to the Michigan bbq, but we never went," Solomon said. "I do not know which recruit they were talking to, but it was not me. It was just a little heartbreaking, for me to supposedly be so high on their list, for them to confuse me with someone else. Plus they spelled both of my names wrong after I told them, but that was not the main issue. I guess they do not have tabs on me."
...that's not ideal. Solomon mentions his mom "loves" Georgia and that he didn't consult her before making his initial commitment. Even with the return trip scheduled, Georgia looks like a big favorite now.

Totally disagree, you're making excuses, and yes, clearly his mother was pushing him to reconsider UGa. This note is EXACTLY the type of thing that would seem like an omen to me.
I just don't get what axe ijonb has to grind to twice in this thread disparage the player and defend the staffer? If a commit from SEC territory shoots up 100 places in the rankings following the first game of his senior season, it seems like that's the kind of player you don't send a boilerplate Thank You for attending an event he wasn't even at, and ya sure as Hell don't spell his Goddam name wrong!
There was a colossal oversight lapse on this, and if anyone wants to draw ANY positive out of it, try that in the case of Solomon, his mother was very likely gonna convince him to stay SEC in the end anyway, so lesson hopefully learned without much cost. But please ijonb and anyone else who's feeling defensive about this, refrain from painting this a failure of the player's, it just was not.

in his quote he says with his "mom in the drivers seat." im curious as to what exactly that means.
either way best of luck to the kid

Kinda the way it is for most recruits. Its important to recruit the player, but REALLY important to recruit mama.

Not the end of the world but definitely not a good day for us. OSU pulls in two 5 star WRs and we lose a key recruit.

I do not wish to be the person who mistakenly sent out that card. Can't imagine what kind of wrath Harbaugh would bring down for messing up on something as vital as recruiting.

With Harbaugh at the helm, I would really doubt someone at Michigan would make the mistake of not only sending them a thank you card but also misspelling their names. Does no else think that sounds a little fishy? Can anyone confirm that other recruits got thank you cards for the bbq? Was that thing?

C'mon man. You think it's more likely that some nefarious rival coach is committing fraud than that some U of M staffer made a careless mistake?

But I don't think it was a coach. I believe a fan would do it, just like the one who tried to call up Rashan Gary before NSD.
I'm sure there's an Auburn fan out there that wants to hit the Powerball so they can offer some kids $$$ to go to Alabama, just to call in an anonymous tip about a Bama bagman giving out cash.

Is his HS teammate still comitted to us? I seem to recall he was in the secondary but I can't remember his name. I think he had a brother playing at CMU.
If so, maybe he can help out.

Otis Reese. Yes he is but he is another southern recruit who we will have to fight to hold on to. He's a 2018 recruit though so some more time with him.

One of the big positives of Partridge in the recruiting position he was in was his attention to detail. It sounds like whoever took over... not so much.

Reminds me of the Nebraska kid a few years ago. Dad was a huge Cornhuskers fan, Mattison said something relatively innocuous on an in-home visit, dad makes it a huge deal and he decommits.
This is an error, sure, but it's nothing to change a life decision over. Mom wants him near home, can't blame her for that.

Mom is going to win out unless they can get her up on campus. If they can get her on campus, then it'll be game on again. With Harbaugh, the academics and Mama Gwen, I believe they could sway her mother.

As a parent of a HS student, there's no one I want my kid listening to more when it comes to major decisions than his parents.
I think what you meant to say was "tough to see a kid who we want to play football at Michigan letting a parent who wants him to stay closer to home influence his decision"... maybe?!
August 22nd, 2016 at 8:19 PM ^
Well this was expected (by me at least) but the way it happened is unacceptable.
