1971 Sandusky victim says Paterno told him to drop his allegation; six PSU coaches reportedly saw abuse
Franklin is too good for them.
Yep, I said it. Sandusky is a sick fuck, but many studies suggest such pedophiles can't control themselves and need to be isolated, in therapy, etc. Some would suggest castration is the only real cure here as like sociopathy, pedophilia is a twisted deviation of the human psyche.
Joe Pa, on the other hand, was in all accounts a "sane" person without such a pathology. By enabling sicko Sandusky and creating an environment where such predatory behavior was ignored and accepted allowed countless more children to become victims.
Sandusky = amoral sicko
Joe Pa = immoral piece of shit
Would this fall into the double jeopardy category? I don't think its necessary though to revisit. Damage to PSU is done. Most people in the country will have to think twice about sending their kids there
Michigan basketball experienced "double jeopardy"- we received minor sanctions in 1997 and then, after the FBI got involved and the NCAA reopened the case, we received heavier sanctions in 2002. If it can happen to us for a few guys taking cash under the table, I'd like to think it's not out of consideration here.
but the Emmert era will go down as looking like the biggest chumps of all time.

Thankfully Joe is where he belongs now.
PSU football is a sick cult that needs to be destroyed.
The PSU cultists are just as bad as he was by defending this monster and looking the other way.

For the record, not all PSU fans were "Paterno cultists". Several of them accepted what happened and accept that Joe will forever have his legacy tarnished.
You will need to exclude these jack wagons....
for the alumni seats on their board of trustees. The results of the most recent election were announced yesterday. Only one candidate was opposed to challenging the Freeh report and in favor of accepting the results of it. He lost. Here's a comment from the leader of the cultists on PSU's board.
Asked afterward what message he thought alumni sent by choosing not to elect newcomer Dan Cocco, who also ran for an alumni seat, and instead keep the same people on the board to be their voice, alumni trustee Anthony Lubrano said, "The alumni are not ready to change direction and that young man ran on a platform we shouldn't review the Freeh files and that was a fundamental mistake." .
Obviously, not all PSU fans and alums are in that camp. But they're not just some small vocal minority either. PSU's administration accepted the reality of their situation. They were coerced into doing so by the NCAA and the Big Ten. Their fans and alumni have rebelled and have been emboldened by their success in having Paterno's wins restored. One would hope that these recent revelations will cause them to reevluate their unconditional love of everything Joe Paterno represents. I think they have too much emotional investment to ever do so.
Paterno?
Wow, that's some crazy shit. Then again, to believe the victims of Sandusky aren't really victims is not that far removed in craziness from those who believe either Sandusky is the only one who bears guilt, or Sandusky, the president, AD, and several others are guilty, but somehow St. Joeseph is the single individual who bears no guilt at all. It's as if these crazies believe the mural of him with a halo is a literal representation of him and it really doesn't matter how much evidence there is that at a minimum JoePa's gross negligence allowed a pedophile to continue raping children for decades; in their minds he's the lone key figure in all this who bears no responsibility.
Mere words fail to describe the inhumanity, uncaring, selfish, reprehensible, immoral motives of that fucking bastard, and I am not even talking about sandusky yet. May you rot in hell for all of eternity joe and jerry will join you also!!!
Yea, just because Joe was more famous (infamous) doens't mean his lack of actions are worse that the actual actions by the sick fuck Sandusky.
stopping him from starting the charitable (recruiting) organization comes very close. He knew what was happening and allowed it to continue to protect himself and Penn State football. Disgusting.
molesting a kid or hear about it over and over and do nothing except threaten the kids, guess what you are just as bad. Paterno was like a crooked cop, you get abused and go to the authority and they abuse you again. In my mind just as bad.
Sandusky = amoral sick bastard with a disease. Like a sociopath, he was a born predator. An argument could be made that the only cure for a sicko like him is castration.
Paterno = a seemingly "sane" person engaging in the most immoral of actions by enabling the said sicko.
Sandusky is the bigger sicko here of course, and his actions are beyond disgusting and harmed these kids for life
Paterno's apparent inaction was bad enough, but now his coverup actions are even more reprehensible than Sandusky given his apparent position to have made it all stop, and not having the pathology of pedophilia.
Paterno was raised in a time where people were tempted to say that if you found the right woman for Sandusky he would be fine. As time passed, I think it became more about pride. This is the true meaning of "pride cometh before the fall".
This isn't an excuse however. Both of them deserve to rot in hell.
the attempt at cultural/era relativism here...but we're not talking about homosexuality or something that was deemed "deviant" back then and therefore covered up simply to protect an image.
We are talking about a crime with victims here, not a lifestyle....there is no cultural relativism/era relativism when children are raped and destroyed for life, as Joe Pa tries to find the right match to cure the perpetrator and protect his reputation. They put the needs of a few and their precious football program above the well-being of the community and its most vulnerable.
Joe Pa is one of the biggest frauds in American history....not just sports history, but all of American history....up there with televangelists, cult leaders, and business con artists.
several coaches knew. who knows how many other staff and adminstrators knew. i'm not sure what i would have done, but i sure as hell wouldn't work along side that scumbag sandusky unless i knew the proper authorities were contacted and a proper investigation performed. in either case, i would get the hell out of there the first chance i got.

by "a few" I assume you mean those that were responsible.

It allegedly made it to the AD's office in '87 and '88, but according to this latest court order that seems to be where it stopped.
When the perpetrator's boss advises a victim to drop his allegations, said boss bears some small share of responsibility. When you know about multiple cases going on for decades and it somehow never gets reported outside the athletic department, the share of responsibility maybe isn't so small.
I don't know that forfeiting wins adequately addresses the issue--this should have been a matter for the civil and criminal courts. If you ask me, it's a shame Paterno didn't live long enough to face justice.
In other disgusting child molester news..........
Apparently this isn't an insanely offensive joke

Yeah, can't let any of those stoners doing time for weed possession go. A pedophile is a much lower risk to society. Well done, humanity.
