Draft: Further Evidence of Harbaugh’s Greatness
While watching the draft I couldn’t help but notice how many players from our rival teams/big ten were taken before our first player was taken. If you didn’t watch/track the draft very closely here is a quick rundown of the number of players taken before Glasgow was selected at #95.
OSU – 10 players (5,2,3)
ND – 6 players (2,2,2)
MSU – 3 players (2,0,1)
PSU – 3 players (0,2,1)
Other big ten – 7 (0,4,3)
PS: Connor Cook is still waiting by the phone.
It’s pretty incredible to see these numbers considering we were only really outplayed by one team all season. I can’t see this happening again for a very long time.
PPS: Connor Cook, still not drafted...
Edited:
OK, Cook has now been drafted.
I understand Lewis/Butt could have gone early and been drafted prior to Glasgow. My point in writing this wasn't to analyze it from a micro level. It's to show from a marcro level just how far behind our roster was from a talent level and still basically only lost one game all season. Really the Utah, MSU, IU, Minney games were coin flips.
This draft is a huge pivot point for our program. OSU just had their 11th (!!!) player taken in the first 3.5 rounds. MSU just lost the best QB they've ever had. Meanwhile our roster is as strong as ever. That's my whole point, guess I should have taken more time to explain this when I wrote it last night.

It's a good thing we don't have any first round draft picks in this draft. That means Butt and Lewis are still on the team.

I have the largest man crush ever on Harbaugh, but do we really need this thread? I mean, we have a ton of talent that decided to return to school. Using the draft as a measurement is silly in my eyes.
the first team on the list that had substantially more players taken so far did actually take us behind the woodshed. ND on the list is irrelevant to the point. They were very talented last year, and also better than us. The next team on the list that we actually played beat us as well.
I love me some Harbaugh, and we had a great season, but give the kids some credit too. We had a good amount of first, second and third round talent on the team this year, they just decided to come back to school.
the draft numbers and not circle it back to Harbaugh's greatness? I mean, it's not like the team was the little sisters of the poor that Jim magically coached to 10-3. Jabrill Peppers and Jourdan Lewis are future 1st rounders, Jake Butt is a borderline first rounder, half the defensive line has a future in the NFL and a ton of these kids are former highly recruited prospects. The talent was there. Saying that this draft shows how great Harbaugh is, kind of misleading, no?

my agreement with the prior post was not that this shouldn't be a thread. My agreement was with the previous post pointing out the abusrdity of the OP's faulty logic and conclusion that somehow the data presented points to Harbaugh being great.
The OP is, of course, more than welcome to post anything, and we are all similarly more than welcome to rip apart such poorly reasoned posts. Because just as you say, what else are we to talk about during the offseason?

ehhh, you're right. should be (1,0,1). good catch.

Oh, wait...It's the NFL GMs that overlooked him.

Now the whole NFL is disrespecting Sparty.
Harbaugh's influence, obvs.

When Calhoun was drafted. It was the NFL network show. #disrespekt

But I feel like this is like the annual list of weight changes for football players.
If they gained weight it's muscle, if they lost weight, it's conditioning.
Had Michigan had 10 players drafted in the first round, everyone (including me) would be crowing about how great a coach he is and how this bodes well for recruits.
Don't misunderstand me, I completely agree with you. Last year's squad was excellent, and the lack of early round players (exception of Butt and Lewis) demonstrates good coaches and good team cohision.

The reason osu had some many go this year is because it was their first full cycle of recruiting under urbz.
They had zero first rounders after his first year. Which is to be expected after a coaching change.
I can think of one guy already who is most likely going to be in the 2019 draft after his junior season.

OK. That is a term of endearment used by Michigan fans.

precisely.
It's funny how people create straw man arguments. I understand Lewis/Butt could have gone early and been drafted prior to Glasgow. My point in writing this wasn't to analyze it from a micro level. Think I'll include this in an edit.

If you're trying to make a point about the talent level Harbaugh's team went against then ND doesn't matter.

I was just put in my place by a guy (?) with a south park hitler as his avatar. I've hit rock bottom...
is he gobbling Harbaugh's jock? Just wanted to know because if you are going to gobble Harbaugh's jock, today is the day!

Jake Rudock will get selected before Cook and Sparty heads will asplode.

Tom Brady should trade up and grab him just to spite them. I'm certain he had a hand in drafting Gallon in 2014.

If Rudock were to get selected over Cook, then you can crow about Harbaugh's greatness all day long.

OSU had like every early entree guy go into the draft this year. I'd rather our guys come back and then beat them when they are breaking in new players.
April 30th, 2016 at 12:15 AM ^
Next year Glasgow, Wormley, Butt, Lewis, Peppers if he enters, Chesson, Darboh will go for sure. Then you have JOK/Speight and Deveon Smith as possibilities.

2016 is the year to make our run. we will lose a lot of talent. 2018 and beyond, however, hopefully we are in reload form.
I figured he'd be off the board by the second round at the latest. Now he'll have to fight just to make a roster spot.

were not bad. Just because he was crying on the bench between sets of his last game? Archie Griffin must have been laughin' his ass off.
