AJ Dillon was a composite 4 star yesterday...what service did rankings updates?
One of the 4 services must have done rankings updates because AJ Dillon was a composite 4 star yesterday. Matter of fact, our class was 8th - now dropped to 9th after he was degraded to composite 3*.
Anyone know what recruiting service updated rankings today/yesterday?
No big deal, just curious.

No, he wasn't a composite 4-star yesterday. Ace even covered his rankings in the hello post saying that every top player we've gotten from MA has been ranked in the 3/4 range because of the competition out there and AJ was in that same category.

Yes, at the time he committed he was a 247 composite 4 star. One of the rankings must have changed.

They don't mean the same thing. Ace had him as a 4* in 247's composite ranking.

He was when he committed. When I posted the morning stub I checked all four sites and wrote that he was a consensus 4-star.

What difference does it make?
March 29th, 2016 at 11:15 AM ^
Dude... If he's only a 3* he'll surely be destined for a middling career. However, if he's a 4*, he'll be a stud from the day he sets foot on campus. Isn't it obvious? /s

This kid is likely not we scouted because of the talent level in the MA area, which is pretty obvious by the huge descrepancies in ratings including a generic 3* from ESPN, who rarely does their homework on anyone that doesn't camp with them. Let's just keep trusting the guy who has a resume of creating pros and also evaluating them well as an NFL coach. He knows what a football player looks like

I saw his video. I don't care what his competition level was. I want.

If he's good enough for Jim Harbaugh and Tyrone Wheatley, that's all I need to know. The hell with the recruiting service composite rankings.
March 29th, 2016 at 11:19 AM ^
what the Hello post had his site ratings at and then actually went to the recruiting sites and checked them.....and none of them have changed. Odd.

and moved up. ESPN is known for being late in rating players. Maybe they just added a lot to their database. It's also possible that 247 corrected their composite calculation. His ranking of #248 didn't seem to match his ratings. In fact, #248 is a number that stands out on a site that promotes their top 247 recruits.

I'm not too worried about it. Both Dillon and Woods look like they should get a bump once they hit the field again this fall. Even the "lower ranked" guys in the '17 class look like they will be big contributors in the future, and the big fish won't really start committing until the upcoming season starts. There are still 19 spots open according to projections. This class will be another monster when it is all said and done.

I just checked his Hello post and 247, Rivals, and Scout have remained unchanged. ESPN had him as a NR 3* so I don't know how that would change the composite unless they dropped him to a 2*.
March 29th, 2016 at 11:40 AM ^
yeah, strange. He was for sure a composite 4* on 247 when he committed. Our team ranking on 247 was even 8th. Now he is a 3* and we are 9th.
Again, no biggie. I was just curious as to what service changed. Something defiinitely changed.
Yesterday, according to the 'Hello" post he was #399 on 24/7. It seems strange that a drop from 399 to 400 by one service would change his status that much on the composite ranking, but there it is.
March 29th, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
None of the sites have moved any of his rankings. He just dropped in the composite from #247 to 350ish for some reason. It may be a glitch in their system or they didn't have it correct yesterday.

Don't even care.

And I know it's naive to think that this is how it will be moving forward, but it sure feels like we're returning to this philosophy.

motivation to prove them wrong. Not worried at all. Looks like a beast wiith multiple position possibilities for JH and Staff to mold.

ugh
I know the OP said it's not a big deal, but this isn't an issue whatsoever. He still has a senior year to play. Fuck the rankings this early in the process. If Harbaugh and his coaches want this guy, then clearly he is good enough to be at least a project for the squad.

I can think of at least one 3* RB from MA that panned out pretty well. I'm not sweating it, if Tyrone likes him, I like him.
See what I did there...

Rivals just received video of Dillon giving a young lady a piggy-back ride and his knees weren't coming up high enough...you're always being evaluated, kid!
Sometimes especially early in the process, the stars are iffy. Most of the time i put more stock in other offers.
