Harbrothers to Enter Pioneer Hall of Fame
HT Liz Crowe for finding the photo
Harbaugh? A few weeks back a member of the planning committee for Ann Arbor Pioneer's annual athletic department fundraiser thingy pinged me all excited about something. With this year's event taking place the same weekend as the Harbros' "Greatest Coaching Clinic of All-Time" it was the perfect opportunity to induct two of the greatest athletes to ever wear the purple (not Ravens). I found this cool, and they said we get to announce it.
So…
When? If you're not otherwise tied up on Friday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m…
What? …then come see Jim and John Harbaugh inducted into the Pioneer Hall of Fame. There will be a dinner, VIP pre-party, and some gift bags to serve as the fundraiser.
Fundraiser? This costs money? That's kinda the point: this is how they annually raise money for the Pioneer teams. If you would like to trade money for meeting Jim and John Harbaugh (and, like, us), then you can do that beforehand. Hold on I got a flier for this:
There. Click that and you'll get to the Facebook page. There will be information updates there as the rest of this comes together.
Is there a basketball game then? We're probably good. There's a sliiiight chance that Michigan will be in the Big Ten tournament's 6:30 game. I say "slight" with extra-i's because M would have to be either the #10, #7, or #2 seed.
But I'm a Huron alum! Then come wearing a #17 River Rats jersey.
How about gratuitous photos of Young Harbaughs? Don't mind if I do.

What are the qualifications for "All-Round?" Skill in geometry?
January 11th, 2016 at 2:20 PM ^
Probably a combination of grades, participation in sports, participation in the arts/clubs.

Best All-Round Shirt. Easily.

there's little doubt that Mutt Wada deserved the award IMO.

I'm glad Jim grew into his chin.

I was surprised to find that, yes, Pioneer is literally across the street from the Big House.

That woman's name Mutt?

I was wondering about that too, though given how veraciously that yearbook seems to be edited, her name was probably actually Susan Smith or something.
January 11th, 2016 at 2:43 PM ^
I believe you meant "voraciously".

Love those 1979 era Houston Astro-ish uniforms. They were uniformz before there were uniformz.

Pioneer class of 2004 represent! I really wish this had happened when I was still living in Ann Arbor though, too cool to miss.

Can't believe they misspelled Harbaugh in the yearbook! That would get someone sent to Bolivia these days.

Any idea what the cost per-plate is?
Sounds like a cool event to attend as a Michigan fan, but maybe not as a poor former-college student...dem debts, yo

Well he isn't slingin' Chevys anymore since he sold his dealership to the Sunurban Collection.

He should've won Best Shirt. Rayon glows, baby!

As usual, that Lions player has no chance of catching Jimmy.
January 11th, 2016 at 3:29 PM ^
Or more accurately, was...

Yeah, I'm sure she's thrilled everytime that photo is shown.
I don't recall her name, but I have that Yearbook at home since it was Sophomore year ('80) of my PI Hi Class '82. Harbaugh left, but we still had Minick and Moeller...

The family pic is great, Jim already looks looks to be the fantasically insane and kooky person he is now.
January 11th, 2016 at 4:14 PM ^
Jim looks like he would have shoved me into a locker in front of a gaggle of young women. I would have dropped my Big Gulp. Everyone laughs harder.....

Holy accident waiting to happen in that baseball picture with no fence in front of the bleachers!

That took me straight back; those were ubiquitious. Nice.

for John Harbaugh when it came to the whole "older brother domination" factor that you typically see as kids.
Not only is your younger brother Jim as big as you, I assume that he was probably every bit as strong and fast as him also and is most likely the star athlete in school.
I know they were I think just one year apart in school but still growing up everyone more or less EXPECTS you to beat your little brother (sorry about the Mike Hart reference, LOL) in everything that you do.
A credit to John though as he seemed to have been okay about all of it from what we've heard.

Growing up in A2 I realize pioneer has put a few athletes out over time. But I can't think of any they've had who were more successful as playing coaches than Jim.
And if you're going to weight coaching heavily, then John has to be in the mix, too.
Anyway, Go River Rats.

I used to wear socks like that kid in the bleachers. Pulled up to my knees too. I remember getting packs of them from K-Mart. I really liked the blue and red striped way more than the green and red striped.
January 11th, 2016 at 11:21 PM ^
Wow were those fun days to grow up in. Striped tube socks, Rick Leach, Keith Bostic and the Harbaughs!
