Ohio State to hire Schiano
According to Schefter, Schiano will be the associate head coach and DC.
Former Bucs HC Greg Schiano expected to accept Assoc HC/DC at Ohio State, per source; will replace former OSU DC Chris Ash, new Rutgers HC.

Seems like a good hire, no?
December 11th, 2015 at 3:16 PM ^
He has been out of football for 2 years, and he has not been a DC since 2000. He actually has only been a DC for 2 years total in his career (1999-2000). He has a great reputation for defense and coaching & turned Rutgers into a winner after the Big East got raided by the ACC (and I think that will help them in recruiting), but no one has offered him a HC job for 3 straight offseasons now. It's possible he has been waiting for the right offer and finally gave up on waiting. He was still getting paid by the Bucs.

Doesn't seem like a laughable hire in comparison to a possible Lance Anderson though.

If anyone was wondering, Harbaugh's 49ers beat Schiano's Bucs 33-14 in 2013.

Clearly, he does not plan to be a DC for a while and would look at this as a demotion. How is he going to get along with other coaches now that he is associate head coach as well as DC? I heard on a Boston station that Bill Bilichick recommended him to Urban

Schiano knows that area and Meyer knows we're owning that area right now.
I'm only half kidding...but I do wonder if that even came into consideration.
December 11th, 2015 at 9:07 PM ^
Urbz once said that the number one characteristic he looks for in an assistant coach is their ability to recruit. I would bet that you're onto something.
December 11th, 2015 at 6:42 PM ^
He was just about to be Michigan's coach, now he's OSU's #2? Damn. They is our Voldermort.

He would've been a better hire in terms of wins/losses vs. Rich Rod.
However, we may not end up with Harbaugh because Schiano likely keeps his job 1-2 years longer. Meaning if Hoke is the next coach, he's only in year 2.
And Hoke does not make us far better off than Harbaugh.

Maybe he has pics of him banging undergrads at Florida, but how exactly does one take pics of someone faking heart troubles?

It would take a lot of evidence/convincing for me to believe that Urban Meyer has a libido.
I'm not going to take the time to analyze my thoughts on this one. I know he has reproduced with good results etc., but I'm not buying the idea that he enjoyed it.

He did an excellent job with Rutgers, which looks even better now that time passed and they are a tire fire again. Sure he was terrible with Tampa, but he wouldn't be the first good college coach that flamed out in the pros. Good hire.

I wonder how Harbaugh would react if Schiano ever tried to pull this shit:

Not to get all homoerotic up in here, but... is it just me, or is he really handsome? I mean, other than the two anuses (or is it anii?) on his chin...
December 11th, 2015 at 2:58 PM ^
The double anus chin is actually a genetic anomaly caused by generations of inbreeding within the Habsburg Dynasty. It's entirely possible that Coach Schiano is descended from inbred royalty.
Which is probably why OSU hired him.

I actually was being sarcastic. On the other hand, and as a straight man myself, I do think he has that sort of rough-guy movie star silver fox thing going on. Any women care to chime in and confirm or reject my theory???
December 11th, 2015 at 3:29 PM ^
You're gay. It's 2015, nobody cares, and it's totally cool. I can also acknowledge when a guy is good looking, but the adjectives and in-depth analysis you have offered suggest you could live a much happier life if you come out of the closet.
That being said, no, he looks ape-ish
December 11th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
You're right, it's time to come clean. Now, how do I tell my kids? This is going to be Bruce Jenner-level difficult...
December 11th, 2015 at 3:19 PM ^
does nothing for me. I don't care if he has one chin dimple or two or three.
THIS guy on the other hand....

Two league MVPs, four Super Bowl rings. Guaranteed first ballot hall of fame. Now let’s give him a hand job into this red solo cup.

May he do for them what he did for Tampa Bay.

That's great news! He is a very overrated coach.
December 11th, 2015 at 2:55 PM ^
I'm not sure how he's overrated. He's had pretty good defenses when he has been in charge of that side of the ball. He's not being hired as a head coach - he's being hired as an assistant. I think this is a pretty good hire for Ohio State.
December 11th, 2015 at 3:00 PM ^
He also managed to succeed pretty well at rutgers considering. They could have done a lot worse given they couldn't attract elite guys with fickell already there as a co-dc.
December 11th, 2015 at 3:07 PM ^
and Jonathan Vilma. Just sayin'.

I won't deny that he had some talent at Miami, but Jonathan Vilma was a freshman backup linebacker in 2000. He wasn't exactly a key cog in that defense.
December 11th, 2015 at 7:26 PM ^
I think the fact that Vilma was a backup shows you how insanely talented that defense was.
December 11th, 2015 at 3:22 PM ^
Schiano was only a DC for 2 years at Miami (FL) with some of the most talented teams Miami has had. It's not like Schiano has a long track record as a DC. I think it is a good hire, but I don't get how Schiano developed this reputation as some kind of defensive whiz. Maybe it's because he's friends with Belichick from NJ. But not good enough as a coach for Belichick to offer him a job.
December 11th, 2015 at 3:37 PM ^
This. He coached a butt ton (technical term) of talent at Miami for two years and then went to Rutgers where he finished ranked once and with a winning conference record 4 times in 11 years. He may be a good DC, we don't know. Just not a ton of evidence that says he definitely will be or that he's been a good DC in the past.
