OT: Sophomore QB Kyle Allen to transfer from Texas A&M
Recently announced that QB Kyle Allen will transfer from Texas A&M effective immediately. He will likely have to sit out the 2016 season (barring any other news releases), but will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2017. Former 5 star and number 1 QB recruit in the class of 2014. Put up some big numbers, but turnover prone and was relinquished by Kyler Murray this year who was also a 5 star QB recruit, class of 2015. I'm sure the kid will have plenty of suitors; it'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

Let's get a QB who by all accounts, has no interest in competing, to play for Harbaugh. Sounds like a great fit.

Actually he left Iowa because he preferred to compete

How'd that work out for Iowa

This has very little or nothing at all to do with wanting to compete, and everything to do with Texas A&M's offense being a tire fire. Allen is a future NFL talent with two years of eligibility left. He could either roll the dice that Sumlin will get his shit together next season and field some sort of competent offense (not likely), or...he could transfer, sit out a year, and then have two years left to get back on track for the NFL.
I mean, all you have to do is look at Christian Hackenberg and see what living in a terrible offense can do for your NFL futures. (Or remember what broken offenses and bad coaching did to Devin Gardner)

I've heard the area to the north and west of Gainesville described as Florabama so maybe South is Ocalahoma?

IDK man...I would prefer someone who comes from a tougher conference to better handle the rigors of the Big 10 week to week. Didn't the SEC ony finish with 1 team in the top 15??? Meh. Weak sauce.
December 10th, 2015 at 9:01 PM ^
If the SEC does well and move some teams back up in the top 10-15, I'm sure the narrative again will be that the SEC is the best conference and they beat each other up all season.
I personally hope Alabama is the only SEC team to win a bowl game, and only that one game, then the FCC forces CBS to stop all the "The Best Conference" crap in the advertisements.

Last year the B1G did a lot of nothing until bowl week, and immediately re-entered the conversation for best conference.

I doubt Butt comes back if he didn't feel like O'Korn was gonna be a good QB.
December 10th, 2015 at 9:59 PM ^
There's a joke there about Korn coming out of your Butt

Is there though?

I dunno, maybe. That's why I'm not a comedian

His point was that Butt wouldn't have announced he was coming back if he didn't feel good about who was going to be throwing him the ball next season.

situation. Here's some interesting commentary on what's going on at A&M.

Texas A&M is a disaster, and Sumlin's seat has to be scorching hot. You don't pay a coach $5M a year to lose to Top 25 teams and go 9-4 or 8-5. I think if he doesn't win 10 games next season, he's done. Aggies will/should make a run at Herman.

I mean he is one really bad year away from basically being Brady Hoke isn't he? Huge success in the first year with another coaches players carried by a superstar playmaker at QB (Manziel and Denard) then settled into a string of great recruiting success but mediocre results on the field.
He followed up his 10 and 2 season and a win over Bama with 8 - 4, 7 - 5, and now 8 - 4 again. Not to mention the second highly regarded QB to transfer in as many years. If he really wanted an NFL head coaching gig he should have jumped after year two.
But Herman at a place like TAMU or Texas could be scary.

It's only a disaster if you don't think about how bad it could be. A&M hasn't always been a fringe Top 25 program. I think Sumlin actually has the 2nd highest win % for an A&M coach in the modern era. R.C. Slocum lasted almost 20 years there and had a similar record over multiple seasons.
They have to compete with Alabama, Auburn, and LSU every year. Not to mention the suddenly resurgent Mississippi schools and BERT down at Arkansas.
8-4 could easily turn to 4-8 with the wrong coach.

Kyler got the nod because he has more letters in his first name.

I mean, if Harbaugh goes after him I trust the man. But I'm really hoping that he has enough faith in O'Korn to make him the starter next year. Having a guy whose spent a full year practicing Harbaugh's scheme will hopefully pay dividends.

O'Korn has all the tools to be successful, so I can absolutely see why so many on this blog are very excited about him. I would caution people though to temper their expectations, bc the 'erratic' in his game is a very tough habit to kick. Thankfully we have Jim Harbaugh, and I trust in him completely.
I personally think the QB next year will come out of the Gentry, Speight, O'Korn group. I would love it if Brandon Peters competed and won as I believe he is going to be the best UM QB since Navarre / Brady.

I'm not trying to be negative, but O'Korn is not what this blog thinks he is. He may compete and he MAY win the job... And I'll cheer my ass off for him. But there is no way that shit is set in stone. I'd bet Shane over O'Korn
