Bo versus Harbaugh yelling at officials
For those of you who didn't grow up watching Bo, Harbaugh's sideline display over a botched call was quite mild.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tgcn7_hLIM
Check out the following minute marks for a sample of Bo's reactions to officials on botched calls:
3:00, 4:20, 6:49, 9:38, 11:35, 13:35
I like how Harbaugh's reaction is charaterized as "tantrum" or "loses his mind" and the annoucers back in Bo's day call him "intense", competitive", "very caring", and "very sensitive".
My favorite quote if you can't watch the clip is: "If you need to light a fire, all you have needed to do was touch his head" when describing Bo on the sidelines after a bad call.

This is the exact conversation I had with a few friends on Saturday during the game, especially after Jim freaked out about the roughing the kicker penalty. I basically said that Brady and Jim differ in one glaring way and that is the level of attitude/fire.

My only dissapointment was that it took him so long in the season to do it.

and they were mild compared to Woody's. Coach Harbaugh's are even more mild-mannered than Bo's. But you can tell the passion is there, Jim's channeling the 'Old Man' and I love it!

when I arrived in 1979 at Michigan. The upperclassmen in the MMB spoke of him with reverence with a wee bit of Schadenfreude for his firing.
He was a great American patriot. Enlisted in the Navy in WW2, commanded a sub chaser and later a destroyer escort.
I would have enrolled at Ohio State for one semester just to take one of his Military History classes if I had not gone straight from Michigan into the Army after graduation in 1983.

If memory serves Bo stated that his tantrums were not as uncontrolled as they seemed. There was method in his madness.

But I do not doubt it. Dwight Eisenhower is reported to have said: "Lose your temper only with intention", I've always thought that was probably good advice.

I forget where the story originated, but someone described witnessing Bo in what they thought was a huge tirade, punctuated by Bo throwing his hat on the ground and stomping on it. After the official walked away, Bo bent down to pick up his hat, looked up and winked.

sometimes after calls. What Harbaugh does is nothing really and I'm sure he learned it watching Bo all those years.

is the reason people are calling it a "tantrum." Sean McDonough evidenly hates Michigan, from what I can ascertain, and I much rather even get Patrick then him if we are going to get one of the second tier crews.

that "tantrum" was a thing of beauty to every Michigan fan watching.

to forgive is much easier when the call is overturned on instant replay and/or you are laying a f-ing beatdown on the opponent.

Harbaugh looks like he plans the shot since the ref isn't listening to him!

When Harbaugh stands in front of Bo and the official just to call the timeout -- priceless. We are so lucky to have a coach like Jim Harbaugh!

Give it a rest I know you're Michael Potts the actor. Brother Mouzone is your character. Ugh.

Wow those are great - thanks for sharing. Bo would scare the crapout of me if I was a ref.

At the game, there was a guy next to me just telling everyone "That's Bo!" I'm too young to see the Bo days, but looking at the Bo clips, it sure seems like it.

I give Harbaugh extra credit for his pantamiming the punt

I know people love to see him getting all worked up. But I can't help it, my first thought when I see him going off like that is- 'please don't get so worked up you have a heart attack or stroke!'.
September 14th, 2015 at 4:18 PM ^
Bo had like 14 heart attacks coaching Michigan, and we have a great hospital. Harbaugh will be fine.

Yeah, I've yet to see Harbaugh go off on a player . . . and god knows some of them have deserved it.

His passion just showed a lttile when he educated them.
He was never wrong.

Amazing how after Harbaugh screamed at the officials the team started to play much better.

I loved it when they ran the catch against Hawaii in super-slo-mo reverse. We used to do that with the reel-to-reel movies in grade school.
