OT: Jimbo Fisher bans players from going to bars
In an attempt to put out the dumpster fire that is the FSU program, Jimbo has prohibited all members of the football team from going to bars.

I could completely understand banning all players under 21, but that seems unfair to stop the legal age students. Good for Fisher for trying to change the culture, but he still looks like a joke. Instead of admitting that he needs to recruit higher integrity players, he comes up with this. None of Winston's antics involved bars...
EDIT: Winston's alleged rape saga started out at a bar. Jimbo must be right...it's all the bar's fault. No accountability needed to be had by him
Wouldn't it look a little silly to have a rule that states that no players under 21 can go to the bar? As if it would be okay if there weren't a team rule?
Um... it's not silly at all.. idk when you went to UM, but while I was there, the football, hockey and basketball teams (underage kids included) were at the bars/clubs around campus all the time...
It's not rare.
People really going to act shocked at underclassmen athletes getting bar/alcohol privileges in college?
LOL
That's what I say when I go into Canada and break their laws
"YOUR RULES DON'T APPLY TO ME CANADA. I'M FROM AMERICA"
Because that's how laws work
I detect sarcasm. Anyways.. did you know if you are an American citizen that American laws apply to you no matter where in the world you are?
I should rephrase that. You are subject to American laws that pertain to criminal activities.
for Halibuton.
Huh? You're subject to the law of the land where you are.. Laws have something called jurisdiction. Smoking weed is a federal crime in the US. If you smoke in Amsterdam and US authorities find out you won't be extradited. Any US citizen that commits a crime in another country doesn't face charges in an American court. Why do you think underage American kids to Windsor (and Mexico) to drink.

Also, not facing charges doesn't mean anything about whether a law was broken or not.

It's silly because going public with a rule that's identical to the law makes you sound ridiculous.
I'm assuming hitting someone at a bar is also against team rules, but I don't think Jimbo is going to start talking up his "don't punch people" policy, because he'd sound like an idiot.
Your coach states a rule that you can't go to a bar. The first thought in your head is?
Mine is, "No shit, Sherlock."
You have already made the decision to abide by or break this rule (and the law) many times over, as evidenced by your own post:
the football, hockey and basketball teams (underage kids included) were at the bars/clubs around campus all the time..I bet they had been told not to do that, and yet, there they were. What's next? Head Coach tells team in a meeting, "If you commit armed robbery, you will be dismissed from this program."
when you go out at night, before you ever enter the bar.
I've only seen that practice done at clubs, and even then only some. I'm 23 and over the last few years I've had several friends turned away at the door when trying to enter bars/clubs while over 18 but less than 21.

It completely depends on the local laws, and they're unique more often than not. There are jurisdictions in Indiana where you can't sit at a high top table at an Applebees if you're under 21, and then there are places like Cincinnati and Chambana where clubs can let people in at 18-19.
This sentence right here:
Any random 18 year old kid can go to any bar he wants.
Is what's causing your problem. If you went to Michigan or lived in Ann Arbor you would know that it is not true.
This isn't going to work, football players find ways to party and that usually means a bar. This is going to backfire when Jimbo can't enforce it and when it causes the team to divide over those that follow the rule and those that don't.

Jildo?
That should really help recruiting!
Yeah, that's going to work.
Tell a college football team that you can't go out and have a night on the town. Sure. Let me know just how that goes for you, Jimbo.
Interesting move. I would've started with banning them from punching women, but I guess thats why I'm not a head coach of FSU....
New team rule:
No going to bars that have cameras.
That's it.
No more house parties.

This is absurd. What's next - prohibiting football players from going to classes?
i think they already did that at North Carolina.
Let's send the hungry to the bars.
I'll give you this. That'll be more successful than Jimbo telling his players to stay out of the bars.
