I've got them at 8-4. I think they win one of Utah/PSU, and if they get better as the season goes on they might even upset one of MSU/OSU. But they might drop a surprising one early on as they're learning to gel under Harbaugh. 8-4 is a good mix of fair and optimistic for me.
10-2 at best ; losses to either BYU/Utah or MSU/OSU
9-3 most likely ; losses to Utah/BYU, MSU and OSU
8-4 floor ; losses to Utah, BYU, MSU and OSU
Damn Mormons.
I think 7-5 or 8-4 is realistic given the situation. We have no dominant QB, a lot of questions at TE and running backs, and the receiver corps has been a mess in the last few years. Of course it always pays to be a pessimist since you are seldom disappointed.

16 seems high for OSU. If Hoke can keep it close I'm sure JH can too.

Bold. I find it odd that you're so confident about beating the defending National Champs but not confident about MSU.
How many first year Michigan head coaches lose to OSU?
RR....
In 2011 OSU's offense was a train wreck and their defense was nothing special. That Hoke was able to beat that team doesn't tell us anything about this year's game. OSU this year appears to be the most loaded team in the nation. We have what looks to be an average offense and a good but not dominant defense. By any objective standard, they should be heavily favored to beat us.
Yeah i know. It's just one of those cool random stats.
Harbaugh!
I will bet that line against PSU.
Dont see UM getting blown out by that much at home vs OSU as I do think for the first time since what 2006 - this team will be better in November than it is in September. Rivalry games tend to even out talent differences, esp at home.
Everything else looks about right except I thought BYU would be more like 4. That QB scares me.
Your point was exactly the same as the two guys on Fox Sports radio. I don't know their names, but it's the syndicated program for Friday night. They did a segment on all college lines and the one they singled out was osu at Michigan. They said there's no way a Harbaugh team would lose at home by more than two rd's that late in the season. They predicted by game day it's down to 7.5.
Maybe I'm drunk on the kool-aid, but I believe we will be playing osu for a spot in the B1G title game. I like our chances at home. It's a good thing I'm not close to Vegas because I would bet way more than I could afford to lose on us in that game.
Anyone know what the money-line is or would be on a 16 point spread? (I think that's what it's called when you bet without the points)
I have historic pointspreads databased from 1993 on: looking at that, 16 point favorites win ~10% of the time. Approximate to +800 from there.

This comment triggers horrible PTSD of Michigan being undefeated going into MSU only to get destroyed during the Hoke and RR eras...
Hopefully this year will be different.

Yup, and then the rest of the season felt like....
And we will be undefeated after State leaves town...
I'll okay with 8 wins and thrilled with 9.
We have some things going for us and some unknowns.
Goinging for us - -Lots of experince on D and Peppers, a great new staff.
Unknowns - - QB play, Will the O-line put it togther, will the RB's step up, how fast will the D adjust to the new system.
That line on that BYU game shocks me.
They have a 6th year senior QB coming back who is really good.
He's got plans for 6th year quarterbacks from BYU...
BYU spanked the hell out of Texas the last two seasons. The Longhorns had better defensive talent on the field than Michigan but Manny Diaz and Vance Bedford (sorry, pal) coaching them (GERG came on after the BYU ass-whooping of 2013). That's gonna be one helluva fight for Harbaugh and squad.
Unfortunately, BYU-Texas and Notre Dame-Michigan fell on the same night last year. My teams got beat 72-7 by the Mormons AND the Catholics on national television, forcing me to drink my night into oblivion in downtown Austin.
Scary thread title after the Pipkens news. I thought maybe Harbaugh sent all OL and DL to the medical release tent!
The MSU and PSU lines being equal makes no sense at all to me. Those two teams are miles apart. I know that one is on the road and one at home, but neither the Big House nor Happy Valley have demonstrated enough home field advantage over the past decade to make those equal. .
I find the fact that both MSU and Penn State are favored against Michigan by the same amount (4.5) to be rather mystifying.
Michigan State is a well-coached team with good talent and lots of experience. Penn State is a questionably-coached team with marginal talent and some experience. I don't think the home field advantage swings the outcomes of those games all that much.
We play at PSU thus bumping up their advantage and play at home vs MSU thus decreasing their advantage resulting in equal amounts for both teams?
I won't deny that OSU will have a great team this season, but I still like our chances against them with Harbaugh on our side.
OSU won the national title last year, and they still struggled late into the game to put away a Brady Hoke coached Michigan team. At home. Do they really expect things to be any easier now that one of the best coaches in America roams Michigan's sidelines?

but why should I concede any of the games on the schedule? Coach Harbaugh isn't, his coaching staff isn't, his team isn't---and I'm not.
F*** "moral victories"!
F*** "keeping it close"!
Yeah, I get us being the underdog in some of those games---I know how Vegas operates; I know how betting lines are set.
But concede anything? Predicting a 5- or even a 4-loss season? Did Harbaugh suddenly forget how to coach or something?
the university of michigan!
gentlemen!

Quiverfull:
'the issue here isn't whether we took a few liberties with some of our female party guests....'
I 'd say MSU will be a tougher team to beat than OSU. Not saying that we'll beat either this year, but if we were to beat one, I'd pick OSU as most likely.
MSU is good - seemingly getting incrementally better. And their hatred toward us continues to intensify.
