Lots of new "Michigan to Nike" rumors on Twitter today
Yeah, and what else is new, right? Well, actually, there was virtually no discussion of this topic on Twitter yesterday. Today, there is a sudden explosion of Tweets referencing "rumors" that Michigan is switching to Nike. I attempted to track down the source of the rumors, and they appear to be originating from this Tweet:
Michigan is about to be so swaggy #swoosh
— Megan (@meganprusi) June 10, 2015
As most of you know, Hacket confirmed last week that the search for Michigan's next apparel provider has been code-named "Project Swag," and #swoosh is obviously a reference to Nike.
This woman identifies herself as a University of Michigan alum on her Twitter account, and according to her LinkedIn profile...
https://www.linkedin.com/pub/megan-prusi/75/969/937
...she works for the University if Michigan at Kidsport...
http://www.kines.umich.edu/umove/kidsport
...which is part of the Kinesiology Department, but also seems to be affiliated with the Michigan Athletic Department...
https://www.umich.edu/athletics/
So either: (1) this is someone in a position to be among the first to hear the news that Michigan has switched apparel providers once that information starts trickling down to others in the Athletic Department, or (2) I just cyber-stalked this young woman for no good reason because I'm overly eager to find out which apparel provider we're going with.
You decide.

mmmm bikini selfie...
I'd talk uniforms with her.
Hopefully, she has similarly strong opinions about alternate uniforms
Man is it creepy when guys on the board talk about someone you know. She's a good person too guys.
Hey...tell her that when she posts bikini selfiies on the internet, that it will attract male attention (and some female attention too).
...but she probably knows that...
Ha didn't mean to insinuate that I don't look as well.
Guess I just didn't realize how odd it is to walk into a "room" of 40 anonymous people talking about someone you know personally.
...so are they real?
Does she happen to be into taking drugs, drinking tea, and unusual pocket watches?
Cause it'd be really cool if she was.
I'm sure she is a good person, that's why she's putting up Michigan to Nike rumors, and other presumably great things.
Just heard the news in Corvallis from some guys who work for the atheltic department at Oregon State, it's happening!! (made the graphic for the special occasion!)
She's also been tweeting about Skeeps, "bae" and tailbone boo boos. I don't know, man. Maybe we should let recent grads lead their lives without the hyper scrutiny every offhand mention of the swoosh brings these days. At least our parents' generation didn't have to deal with the twitterazzi.
Michigan Football brought to you by $2 Long Islands every Tuesday.
$2 long islands are on Thursdays, but I agree with your general sentiment.
Yeah $2 Tequila shots don't sound as appealing...
I dunno. Don't you open yourself to public scrutiny if you put things out on Twitter? Isn't that the purpose of Twitter? If you don't want an publicity, notoriety, etc., why in the world would you use a twitter account that is public? I guess I am completely on board with no stalking, but it is hard to feel sympathy or privacy for someone who uses the Internet and doesn't get that it is a public forum. It is one thing to truly "stalk." (i.e., to physically stalk someone's addresses, place of work, driving, etc., etc.) It is another to do simple Internet and Twitter searches. That kind of Internet stalking is invited by those who use the Internet without proper privacy controls.
If you are worried about privacy, posting stuff on the internet is like yelling it to the whole world. Once you've done it, everyone can see it. And don't assume those privacy settings actually work the way you think either.
If I were the OP, I would edit my post though and take the links out (no need to tempt the rest of us to be stalky without putting some effort into it ...)
This is like somebody who continually walks around in the nude inside their house with all the shades up and the lights on complaining that the neighbors can see them in the nude.
Don't want hyper scrutiny of your tailbone boo boos? Keep it off the very public medium of social media.
Jesus.
We could ya know... NOT creep on this random girl's twitter like vultures. yeah, it's on twitter, but as enlightened adults we should probably just mind our own business.
Are you saying that adults shouldn't even read her tweets? What's the purpose of social media then?
There's a vast difference between simply reading somebody's tweets on one hand and responding with creepy commentary on the other. It's a distinction that many don't seem to get. Regardless, if somebody doesn't want any scrutiny of any sort, then stay the hell away from social media.
double
Does this mean it's cool if I post links to your daughter's social media pages?
[Note: I wouldn't actually do this]
My daughter recently closed her FB account and isn't on twitter, so go ahead. Even if she was still on FB, she's old enough to know absolute privacy on social media is a fiction.
Not an either/or. (3) Both, is a distinct possibility.
I suggest you get a life
He as a twitter but he doesn't want to participate in our Bulls' Ring.
Yeah, but look at the responses and relative level of interest. You could easily be telling all of us to get a life.
Wait, are you telling all of us to get a life??
It depends on how you quantify it I guess. It took me about 20 minutes from the time I read the tweet to the time I created this thread. But yeah, I'm a little surprised at myself at how much I care what the Athletic Department does here. I suppose its driven by the fact that these contracts only come up once a decade or so, and Bill Martin showed us all what a disaster it can be making when these decision are driven primarily by money.
The money is important though. It pays for jet fuel to propel Harbaugh to 10 camps in 9 days, the finest athletic facilities for all of our sports, and support staff like Chris Partridge and Soup Campbell. It has to come from somewhere and most would be opposed to ticket price increases and mcdonalds logos on scoreboards.
You post a single tweet from one person which I'm sure has been retweeted and your title is: Lots of new Michigan to Nike rumors on twitter. Since when does one=lots?
Megan!! Loose lips sink sponsorSHIPS!
Brilliant!
Creep.
Can't be credible unless WD weighs in
Wait, Michigan is now the NBA?
There are rumors? On Twitter?
I don't really care about the apparel company since it's just t-shirts but if we got Nike to give us the biggest deal in the country I don't think there's anything that Hackett couldn't do after plucking Harbaugh from the 49ers. He may go down as the greatest AD in Michigan history.
Don indeed was a marketing genius. Personally, I think he deserves to be admired every bit as much as Bo. He helped make Michigan athletics what it is. Oh and he was a damn fine Michigan athlete in his own right.
He was the anti-Brandon.
