Some unfortunate injury news coming
TOS is going to release an update later today on WR Drake Harris. There is a real chance that he misses the entire season again. I will update the thread with any concrete evidence later today. I feel really bad for the kid. I am sure he wants to see the field.
Edit: Rivals. Two mods chimed in on a thread about the UCLA WR transfer. Some are hoping the transfer takes a look at us and this came up in the discussion.

I cant believe how fragile those kids hamstrings are!

Hamstring tears are bad, but now after dealing with sciatica for nearly 6 months, I'm moving it up the chart. I'd rather screw up my hamstring again than deal with this.
So look on the bright side! Harris HAS NOT ruptured a disk in his back that impinges his sciatic nerve!
Yep, I drive a manual as well. Pain from my hip all the way down my left leg to the ankle. Really fun when the numbness and tingling set in while you're sitting in a traffic jam in Chicago.
My left leg always goes numb while im taking a dump!!!
had the same thing for a year. It was awful. i was playing bball twice a week and not streching enough so finally rested it for a couple months and did yoga to loosen it up and it worked. rest and stretching are vital.
Yep, been there. What made my hamstring tears worse was the fact that I'm supposedly the one in five people whose sciatic nerves goes through their thigh instead of behind it (IIRC, I've tried to forget all of this), meaning piriformis is just about the worst thing ever. I spent like three years trying to shake all of that shit, and the sciatica still comes back from time to time.
Fuck. It. All.

I'm another of those 1 in 5. Had piriformis syndrome about 10 years ago. At least then the pain was pretty much localized to my ass. When that nerve pain gets down to your ankle it just won't go away. Not really any tissue to squeeze and try to alleviate the pain.
My L5 is wearing out, so I'm getting surgery as soon as my team's tennis season is over. So hard to coach right now because I can't really do much from an athletic standpoint.
I've had several grade I and a couple grade II hamstring tears, as well as a grade III tear of the calf.
1) They're super easy to re-injure, due to a true inability to tell when fully healed.
2) It heals (if left alone) to be just as strong as before and doesn't increase re-injury risk.

is TOS? I've heard it mentioned around here, just never remembered what it was.

I assume that is an abbreviation for The Official Site.

This has to be so hard for him.
It does make you wonder if the same thing would happen playing basketball or if it's the wear and tear of football.
Regardless, hope he recovers and is able to follow his dreams.

Are you sure the news is bad?
March 31st, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
Do you have other news or are you just being an asshole?
March 31st, 2015 at 12:26 PM ^
I thought it was a legitimate question.
All injury news is unfortunate and bad, but he may have been asking on the veracity of the severity of the news.
Cumong, veracity does not exist on MGoBlog. It's "voracity" as in "unverifed voracity".
I hear ya and it did catch my eye when I typed it.

I assume he was asking if the OP was sure the news was bad news, not if he was sure that a hamstring injury to Harris was bad news. I don't think anyone on this blog is that big of an asshole.
Unfortunately, there are assholes that big on this blog. Just take a look at any thread about any player leaving the team for any reason at all.
Not sure what you're implying, but I certainly don't want him to be injured.
I wanted to know if he was sure the update would contain bad news about the injury.

Just is weird to me in general. Hey, I heard from one site that another site has an update on Drake Harris and it could be bad. I'll update when there is actual news. I think it should probably be deleted until actual news comes out, or at least a link to something.
March 31st, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
And there will be a definitive report out later today.
Why didn't you wait until the definitive report came out then?
It's rare that "injury news" is good.
It is when it comes out of ohio.
Sometimes an injury update can be good. For example, a guy might have an MRI done and it turns out that he doesn't have a torn ligament.
March 31st, 2015 at 12:23 PM ^
Well, hope he can take a medical, did he redshirt last year or medical?
March 31st, 2015 at 12:25 PM ^
You don't get one injury redshirt AND one redshirt redshirt. Occasionally people will get a 6th year if the same injury takes out two seasons, but it isn't very common.
March 31st, 2015 at 12:28 PM ^
This would seemingly be a pretty good candidate for a sixth year if he could ever get his legs in working order.
March 31st, 2015 at 12:34 PM ^
medical hardship. So if that's the case it looks like they would be going for the sixth year.
I don't think Henson is verboten here, but if I'm wrong feel free to zap this.
March 31st, 2015 at 12:45 PM ^
I don't think that's what "medical hardship" means. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't medical hardships what it's called when a player basically waives their eligibility to play sports for injury reasons and in turn gets to stay on scholarshp in order to complete their degree.
Basically, if true, I think this is actually suggesting that Harris's career is close to being over.

but the term seems to be used a lot in the context of medical redshirts, from what I can tell.
I'm skimming, though.
It's really hard to find ncaa rules on the internet. Anyways, apparently the term "medical redshirt" doesn't actually exist.
They're called "hardship waivers."

I think the exact term Henson used was "medical hardship," though. Which might be the actual term for retiring a kid from the sport.
March 31st, 2015 at 12:58 PM ^
I think that's why Henson is saying that a transfer might be in the offing if the staff asks him to take a medical hardship. That he doesn't want to end his career, but the staff is telling him he should.
But for now, I'm assuming this is all speculation. Then again, he's already been out for two straight years and even a "tweak" can't possibly be a good sign. I would sadly not be surprised if his career never gets back on track.
hardship unless it meant ending his career. There's no reason to make a decision now if it was just about redshirting.
I'm hoping Harris was told he'd have to sit a year (if there is an injury update) and that's the end of it.
That being said, hopefully, there is no news at all. That would probably be the best scenario.
a "10th" year like Chris Weinke

Last time we did this we were all wrong. Something to consider at this moment, even if it seems likely to be true
